The poster experienced communism in Eastern Europe, I believe. I don't recall where the poster was from. And then there was the Polish journalist who escaped Communist Poland who said Dan Andrews' Victoria was worse than Communist Poland. I think it's important to sit up and take notice when those who experienced communism try to warn people about the direction the West is headed in. People can disagree with them, but their opinion surely carries weight and is worth listening to.
Would you be happy if this is what this year's winter looked like in England: the entire population vaccinated, or almost the entire population, but the country nevertheless in lockdown, masks mandatory everywhere, vaccine passports required for pubs, clubs, restaurants, football matches, the theatre etc, and mandatory wfh.
And if you would be happy, could you understand why others wouldn't be?
Even if Covid did not exist, and we lived an entirely restriction free lifestyle in every other way, I would 100% welcome masks to be mandatory on public transport in the winter. Too many ignorant pr***s on damp buses and Luas going into work with the flu, coughing and sneezing everywhere.

Yeah I read it too, it was the usual nonsense hysteria, some internet crank was comparing life under lockdown in Australia with the Communist takeover of Poland. Another poster here was calling basic restrictions "extreme tyranny". People with fringe beliefs will lie and exaggerate like there's no tomorrow - and you seem to lap it all up without question.
Their opinion is worth something? there are individual doctors and nurses who claim the vaccine made them magnetic, are they worth listening to? No. There are cranks and loons in all walks of life, which is why we listen to the consensus of experts and ignore fringe groups of individual fruitloops. Most normal people have a basic filter for this stuff.

I don't wish to move the focus from permanent measures to masks, but can you please explain to me why so many scientists swear by masks when we see country after country with mandatory masks everywhere having huge case numbers and deaths vs countries with no masks faring a lot better? Top public health celebrity, Tony Fauci, is always going on about them, for example. But Anders Tegnell, his equivalent in Sweden, thinks they do next to nothing.
Why the rush to dismiss people as 'cranks' and 'loons'? Why not listen to and read their opinion? If you wanted to know what it was like to live under communism you'd ask a person who lived under communism.

Anyone who claims we're living in communist era Eastern Europe is a loon and should be dismissed as one.
The same people thinking there is some conspiracy about mask wearing we almost exclusively the same who would have been convinced that 5G on every lamppost was going to have us monitored 24/7 with facial recognition.
