Some interesting first round matches!
Hope it's a good tournament, with no limitations on crowd size there should be a great atmosphere.
There goes a racket.
what a fookup by the US Open system in fairness tho on break point - had returned deep into the corner
Djokovic not at the races - maybe all the extra hours and pressure have caught up with him?
When Djokovic loses the first, it's usually a sign he will kick things up a notch.
I’m watching the nfl bit I’m keeping up with the men’s final and I see Djokovic lost the first set again.
That bad choice of slice shot off the drop shot was costly.
Medvedev's flatter shot profile causing Djokovic trouble also.
And just not on his game in general
Actually could be nerves
Djokovic drops the first set as normal.
Medvedev first serve unreturnable for the best returner of all time.
Djokovic needs to start "seeing" his serve more and soon.
Djokovic coming to the net a lot after serve because his ground game has not been effective against Medvedev so far.
Well, he's already done a lot better than in Melbourne! The serve obviously the key issue in that set, just serving like an absolute beast. I still think Djokovic is winning, but this is at least slightly encouraging.
Keeping everything crossed for Medvedev here, but just can't see past either a 4 or 5 set win for Djokovic. If nothing else I just hope Djokovic doesn't canter to the win and is made to work for it.
Really looking forward to this match. I was also really looking forward to the AO though! Hopefully this is a lot more competitive. I do feel Medvedev has the best game on this service to trouble Novak.
Osaka could well be finished at the top level, doesn't seem to be able to handle the spotlight, has the talent but, her hunger and love of the game seems to be gone, think she'll be retired in 2/3 years and just going through the motions in that time, so all her endorsements will start jumping ship and Emma Raducanu is the hottest thing not only in Tennis, but, in global sport right now. Good looking young mixed race girl, who comes across really well, right now she's an advertisers dream.
Finally fully caught up with the thread. Enjoyable match last night, my only complaint is I wish there was a third set.
I was actually wondering last night if we could see media/endorsements stepping away from Osaka now. Raducanu won her first slam at a younger age, she seems (at least initially) more comfortable in the spotlight and she's, to be a bit blunt, better looking which rightly or wrongly matters with these things.
Also, with Raducanu being half Chinese and speaking the language she'll be able to tap into the Asian market. Can't see many companies sticking too long with Osaka if she's only popping up a few times a year.
Osaka is mainly the Japanese market but they won't be renewing.
Publicly they have to say they are all behind her but not getting a good brand association.
Is there a difference between eurosport and eurosport europe? TIA
Osaka will be worried now.
Alot of brands will desert her, which in a way might not be a bad thing for her as she might concentrate on her tennis instead of trying to be a social justice warrior.
$$$ £££ €€€
That's down to the Irish not bothering renewing Visa and been illegal not a 12 year rule. It just not oh your hear 12 years okay here is your citizenship
Interestingly it's going to be a full 10 degrees hotter today in New York than yesterday - over 30 degrees.
Neither Djokovic nor Medvedev are fans of high heat.
Wonder how it might affect things.
Humidity at least is medium, unlike the Olympic conditions in Japan.
Who were the commentators on Amazon Prime ?
I watch the US Open on Eurosport Europe, Simon Reed was commentating last night.
Mats Wilander is on there too, not a fan of him.

Aw no issue, it was just confusing as I didn't know the details.
One presumes they entered Britain legally...
I wouldn't have any issue about Raducanu as she has been in the UK since she was a toddler of two.
She grew up there unequivocally.
She's not like Konta or Rusedski. or even Norrie.
Oh, there is a 12 year rule. Cool .
US needs something like that, Irish people there for 30 years, and getting kicked out never to return.
Lived there since she was 2, so I presume became a citizen after is it 12 years?
I'm still not sure how the whole British Citizenship works, I know her mom is Chinese, Dad is Romanian, they lived in Canada, and Emma was born in Ontario.
Was it like a purchased citizenship, I know you can buy a British passport. Confusing.
One thing I like about her is she has followed her own path to get where she is, stayed and finished her education and resisted the obvious temptation to go the scholarship route or enrol in one of the big tennis academies as I think lots in her position would have done. A little bit the same as Leona Maguire in golf, stayed and finished off her college degree instead of taking the easy decision and going pro immediately. Of course, it's all come to radacanu quicker than she or anyone could have imagined, but I think it speaks of having excellent support and guidance around her as well as her own maturity, so I'd definitely give her a more than reasonable chance of backing all this up. Whatever about what went on at Wimbledon, we still have to learn about her under the cosh as she has yet to even play a 3 setter in a major or even a main tour event. All the signs look pretty promising though!
It will be very interesting to see. I don't know if we'll balanced comes into it. Hopefully just the experiences of dealing with the situation(s) will help. We all saw how she struggled at Wimbledon under such big pressure. The pressure and expectation on her now will be huge. She also spoke how for the US open all the pressure being off her was a big help and how she was free to have a swing. Talked about how she just stayed in her team bubble and didn't really check her phone either.
She said that since that's what got her the trophy she shouldn't change anything, she's right obviously. But actually being able to do that when the pressure and expectation is on hernia massively different. She'll be a up amongst the favourites for every grand slam she enters now.
