A new general discussion thread for the new season that is upon us.
Exactly. You don't usually have ground frost coming in on 7th September. You can but it's more normal not to. After 21st September is when the cooler nights usually kick in.
I can't understand how anyone would call today 'crap'. Given we know the amount of rain will eventually come and how miserable it will be.
Yes because that mean temp data includes the cloudy milder nights already mentioned. I said daytime highs. We had day time highs of 14-15c in the eastern half of the country last week. The warmer nights pushed up the daily mean.
Ask Gonzo!! He pointed out that daytime max were low under the cloudy easterly during the later days of last week.
You wouldn't, but I just did.
Agri report 25-31 August. When I commented yesterday, 6 September. I said during the last week the day time high temps were 3-4c below normal. Last week from yesterday was 31st August to 6th September.
Your agri report from 25th Aug- 31 Aug is 6 days behind, when we had temps in the mid 20s, and obviously isn't going to show below average daily highs, like the week 31 Aug to 6th September would across the eastern half of the country.
The sky is clear blue and the winds are light and it’s September. I certainly wouldn’t describe that as ‘Crap’
Data up to the 4th. Still close to (which isn't cold) or above average with negative figures few and far between. (from Met Eireann)
The data I posted was literally from last week and covered the 7 day period of it.
Once again, despite the equally high temps over in the UK, Ireland bears the brunt of the high dewpoints.
There is just no end to this crap at all. Now well into September and we'd normally be looking at getting our first ground frosts of the year. Instead, this is what continue to endure because for whatever reason, this pattern is continuing to repeat itself with abnormal regularity over the last 2 months.
I'm a year out, 1946 🙂
August 1947 was similar to the Augusts of 1976 and 1995 so hardly a bad summer.
Indeed, 27.6C on the METAR.
Claremorris also has broken its September record of 25.1C from 1991 with 25.9C.
28c at Shannon at 4pm.
New record for them as old one is just over 26c
23 degrees here in Dublin, beautiful day
savage day here in Cork City
blue skies and was 26°C here earlier - dare I say its even too hot for me - but I will take it no prob - wow Sept 7th
27c at Sligo Airport
Must be another September record.
Jee hottest September day in 115 years folks
I'd say they'll be fine ,there is no heat today in Dublin and by 8pm dis evening it could actually be feeling quite cool at the aviva with that onshore wind,I'm a little disappointed with the temperatures today here in west Dublin, I was expecting at least 25 but only 22 atm
Incredible!!
Convection down over the Kerry peninsulas where Dooks is, so just nabbed that 28.6c there just in the nick of time.
Glengarrif 28.1c
We probably have until 4pm for any more increases.
Bit of a drop off in some stations at 3pm. Still above expected with lot of over 27C reporting. And the Dooks record!
Oh my lord, the stats don't end today. The Dooks climate station in Kerry has achieved 28.6C, highest September temperature in Ireland since 1906!!!
I'm going very off topic here but Sryan, if you get the time, anytime in the future i'd love to hear a synopsis of September 1947. It followed 2 bad summers, 1946 and 1947. And of course followed 'that' winter.
The agri sector was very important then and it being the centenary of Black 47 in the famine, there were genuine fears of another famine. So lads and lassies in their teens were sent down the country from Dublin to help save the harvest. As it turned out sunburn was a problem! Some romances ocurred etc that were followed up on.
The people down the country were very happy for the enthusiastic help. Those who came down generally tied smaller sheaves of wheat which became know as vollunteer sheaves.
26c in omagh now
If only we had this current setup last week of July or first week of August, we would definitely have broken 30 or 31C with the current setup.
23C here in Meath which is probably the max we will see here due to the onshore east wind. Still today is warmer across the country than anything we saw during August.
If we get lucky we could see low twenties again next week if the high pressure is in the right position but again it is most likely to have an easterly wind and this will become cooler as we head towards mid September.
We may get more warmth tomorrow in the northern half of the country but i'm not sure these temperatures will be reached.
AWS in Durrow at 27.9c at 3pm
Presumably 3pm or maybe 4pm would be warmest tone of day this time of year, July heatwave temps seemed to peak more around 5-6pm but would be earlier during September I am sure. 3pm readings could be interesting
I would say inland Kerry around Killarney would be very warm today
Shannon Apt has also equalled its September max temp record with 1991 at 26.1C.
Durrow AWS 27.6c a few minutes ago!
27.5C on the synop, only 0.9C off the record!
28 degrees at Valentia. That is incredible.........could they hit 30 in september!!
