Cheers mate
I'm probably more looking at the new year then. No worries. Don't mind waiting as long as I know I have a place. Do you know how often they are taking people in?
Best of the luck to everyone else going through the process, it's been a long drawn out thing but hopefully nearing a positive end.
@Deebizzle14 congrats!
the last I remember reading was someone who made it onto the reserves list for the October call was 300-350.
Hi guys, just found out today I am appointable! Very happy I was worried about a few things but didn't even need an interview for the vetting.
I am merit list number between 350-360 does anyone know where the merit list has got up to yet?
Cheers
I was around the 500 mark on the merit list. I have my PCA and online learning complete. Just waiting on a date for my medical now. Vetting had emailed me about a few things I had missed on my form. Only thing worrying me is that I had a couple of defaults a few years back when I was made redundant. Paying them off obviously now, but slightly worried about it.
My mate went in last year and he went through everything pretty quick. It was 5 months between his assessment centre results and him starting GV
I've been waiting nearly 4 months, credit file was checked about 2 months ago 🙈
Just waiting on a medical date now
Have you completed all other stages?
2 odd months now- they checked my experian a few weeks ago so thought that meant something
How long has yours been away?
Not to be dramatic but I think the day my vetting comes back may be the best day of my life. Anyone else on the same boat🤣
Yeah, i would also strongly recommend u go to the familiarisation session. There are some elements on of the obstacle course that u really need to try yourself a few times in order for you to see how best to approach them on the day in order to optimise your performance.
You do indeed. Your able to try out all the different elements of the course, however you cannot complete the course from start to finish or time yourself.
Takes away from the unknown when you have to complete PCA on the main day. Not essential to go, but I would recommend.
If you cannot attend, you get the opportunity to try the different elements on the PCA day too.
As others have said, give her Dixie!
What is the familiarisation day? Do you get offered to go on this before you do it?
Just continue what your doing. Running, walking etc and you'll be grand. Just go full throttle but take care not to hit any of the obstacles as you'll have to go back and do it again.
Also I would recommend attending the familiarisation day.
Good luck
Thanks! What sort of training would you say is best for the PCA? I run but that is pretty much all I do except for walking/hiking
Hard to judge, I expected vetting to take a lot longer based on the time frames discussed on here. As said before PCA is a lot different on the day and training does pay off, but the bonus of getting your result on the same day you complete is a big boost. The online training also keeps you encouraged that you’re making progress. Just one more step, the medical and you’re off to the races. Patience is key but looking back at everything you get a sense of achievement at making the progress and it should encourage you to look forward to what’s ahead.
ML around 500. Have done my fitness and beat it by over a minute although I do play sports each week. So that helped with the cardio. My online learning is also completed however I am yet to pass vetting and get my medical date.
Fitness was very achievable but harder than it looks on YouTube. My merit position was 300-350 but I was appointable quite quickly from start of managed stages.
I'd tend to agree with this. Pca then a month till medical and then a deadline of a month for learning. Then have to wait on results. Once I was appointable it was another 6weeks before I heard anything.
Very slow process with very little insight into where you are! Frustrating but hopefully worth it.
The middle of next year!! Wow! That will be like two years from we applied 😂🤭what merit number are you? Have you done the fitness yet? How did you find it? That’s the part I’m most worried about.
I think that if you aren't already appointable the chance of starting this year is slim. you should get around 4 weeks notice for the PCA then after that you will have some online learning to complete then waiting for medical appointment. I am waiting on vetting clearing and medicaappointmentnt now but don't expect to be starting until towards the middle of next year
Oh wow will be interesting to see how long it takes for mine! I was just expecting a couple of weeks! I didn’t even realise it would be so long then to hear about fitness and medical 😳 after reading this it doesn’t sound like I would be starting anytime in 2021?! I thought we were finally getting somewhere when I got the vetting forms 😆
Hi, when i was at my medical, i did ask the officer who took my sample just for the craic what would they do if i didn't have enough hair. He said that he had taken sample from all body part, incl. chest, arms, legs, etc., so there is bound to be somewhere hairy - these were his words. I think you should be fine as long as u groow some hair even on your legs or arms? Hoe this helps.
Hi guys, I am hoping someone can help me with a question regarding the medical and SMT. I have a shaved head due to being bald on top, and not overly hairy other than under my arms. will they accept this hair for a sample for the SMT even if it isnt very long?
Also, for context, when I applied for the mainland, I didn't hear from the vetting team for 7 months, then it took another 2 months after that to be told I had passed. So while it does seem to relatively quick over here, it does depend on your circumstances(They had to wait to check with PSNI for my vetting for the period before I moved to England), amount of jobs, places you have lived and if they find anything questionable they need clarified
No it is not everyone who has an interview for vetting. Just some where the queries they have may not have been easily answered by email etc. My vetting has been away 7 weeks and just got contacted by vetting team for 2 questions regarding small details for the vetting. Good to know that they are looking at it now, although I am still waiting on my medical date but not sure if this will happen after vetting is cleared.
I'm on 2 months already and no word, then some people are done in a week. Hard to tell how long it will be.
Usually once they update the numbers, that's the calls for the month gone, so, let's hope for a call at the end of Sept / start of Oct. Good luck everybody x
Have just been reading through comments! I sent my vetting forms off, how long did you wait to hear back? I’m reading some waited 12 weeks?! Also someone said they had to do an interview for vetting? Does everyone do this
