In eco mode, at about 100kmh it was in and round 5-7 L/100kms , IIRC but I'd have to keep track of it, it's fairly economical when you're not putting the boot down, surprisingly actually.
Looks the business Gav. Thanks for posting the contract.
Off topic have you still got the GS?
Looks lovely. Really like the seats in the Mk8. Savage wheels, really like how there's no bulk on them.
Oooh that's a nice motor! Well wear.
I know you don’t buy these cars for economy but that’s quite Impressive. I’ve a mk 7.5 Gtd and it has returned some good figures over the summer getting up around 52 or 53 mpg around Kerry on holidays last week. I bought it last December and really was in 2 minds about whether to buy a Gtd or a gti because I commute 190km a day for work. Looks like a gti would have been up to the job driving it within the limits.
Yeah the modern TSI petrols are remarkably easy on fuel. We have a 1.5 TSI T-Roc in the household. It’s very nippy. Mainly does a lot of short hops and it never does less than 42-43 mpg. On the summer staycations it did 55+. The diesel it replaced was probably harder on fuel.
My (new to me) Mk 7.5 R in Oryx White. Also came from Beshoff Motors too!
This was today's drive, averaged 6.8L/100kms.
Which was average enough for the Fiesta ST, the 2.0 TSi is pretty frugal TBH, until you start getting a bit foot heavy.
Average speed was 55km/h.
Started at home went down towards Crosshaven, and we decided to head out west to Castletownbere, a nice long spin used the car on 120km/h stretchs of flat roads and plenty of back roads too, performed well. Seats were comfortable, bit more forgiving than the ST.
Won't be doing 300+ km/h spins every weekend but happy to know it's not a back breaker and is happy cruising along in eco/comfort mode.
I do yeah. Still love it just fancy a change.
Lovely car Gav, by far the best colour combo imo. Well wear.
You what?! And replace that with a Gti?! 😱
Sometimes an offer is too good to refuse!

Volkswagen Golf GTD 2.0tdi M6F 184HP 5DR
I test drove this car last week and it was €19,900 and today it's €24,900 😱
It's priced at that on Done deal, cars ireland and kearys website.
That’s mental money. I bought a 172 mk 7.5 last December for 22.5 k with 40 k miles on it. Private sale but they were in garages at 24-26 spec dependent. The odd higher one too. These prices are nuts.
I'm trying to figure out if it's possibly a mistake but it's being changed on three different sites so most likely not. I wouldn't mind it had an engine light on it when I took it out and a couple of marks and dings on it.
Yeah a lot of 17s onward are asking well over 25k these days.
The car market is a different place now from last December. Brexit has kicked in so importing isn't as attractive so choice in used cars here has severely dropped pushing prices up. In saying that 25k for a 7 year old diesel Golf is just mad. I think the car market here has lost the run of itself. But I bet someone with more money than good sense will pay to close to that for it and the dealer knows it.
Have you had a look at this one:

Also have a look at the Seat Leon FR, same running gear as the GTD but cheaper to buy:

Cheers Bazz. I'll give them a look if there still available in a few days time.
I've been very impressed with the economy of my 2018 GTI since I got it, I’m getting 39mpg long term and I regularly get 40mpg + on my daily commute. I used to have a mk 7 GTD and I only got marginally better than that, I spend a lot of the time on a motorway doing about 130kph.
Back to €19.9k
Yeah I noticed that earlier today. Weird.
That's a fairly poverty spec GTD. No parking sensors, reversing camera, climate control or sat nav. Also comes with halogen headlights. I know these things may not be important to some folks but surely there are better equipped examples out there for 20k?
Yeah I noticed the halogens when the salesman stated it up, was an immediate turn off. Didn't do too much messing around with the radio tbh but did assume it has a reversing camera.
Pat Kirk has a nice white one up in Omagh which can be had on Irish plates for around €17k. Was originally supposed to head up the other day ended up elsewhere.
Anyways it looks like the blue ovel won me over this time. Won't get into it on this thread for obvious reasons but will post more at the weekend when I pick it up.
Hey guys,
I have a mk7 GTD for the past year, its a lovely car but due to moving to a city and cycling to work more, its left sitting in the driveway for most of the time. Im half tempted to sell it and buy a mk5 R32. Am I mad? Does anyone have any experience with them? Only 2 on donedeal at the moment so i might have to look at importing, would the VRT be insane money for a 3.2 litre petrol? thanks
I had a Mk5 R32.
Absolutely loved it.
But the tax was a killer, and to a lesser extent the fuel consumption wasn't great.
If it's a dsg make sure that and the haldex are recently done. I had an issue with a crankshaft bearing which would squeak but only after the car had been driving for approximately 7 or 8 minutes and it heated up. Took a lot of trial and error with mechanic to find and correct the source of that noise.
Other than a sticky rear caliper I never had any other issues.
Would love to own one again as the sound of that VR6 is intoxicating!
I wouldn't even bother trying to import one of them now, the VRT and potential VAT and import duty from the UK would make it too expensive I'd say. Also I think it may end up being put on the top Co2 tax system so your looking at over 2k a year in motor tax along if that's the case. That's a lot of dosh for something that sit on the driveway for most of the time the same as your current car.
I know everything is gone mad but I traded my old nicely specced 2015 GTD nearly 2 years ago for €17k. It had xenons, climate, winter pack, reverse camera etc. Mileage was 83k miles at the time.
There's definitely better examples to be got out there.
I had a TT 3.2 (same chassis/engine) and I absolutely loved it. Mine was UK reg and tbh there was no way I would pay the Irish road tax. 250 bhp for €1809 a year isn’t great value but the noise it makes is class. Think they are appreciating in value too
Know the previous owner of your one, he owned from new for 8 years. Lovely car and so well minded.
Agreed on the sound :) it's a lovely thing.
