Because in the grand scheme of things its a minor compared to all of the other things your tax dollars go to pay for. And the majority of adults are motorists and likely will be for a long time until such time as cars drive themselves but they will still be the predominant mode of medium and long distance transport.
Don't think anyone is laughing about it. It's so serious that the EU Transport commissioner has highlighted the problem of subsidisation of motoring.

Such bulldust. The amount motoring pays back into the coffers relative to its impact differs by orders of magnitude. VAT, VRT, excise and duties, carbon taxes, motor tax, motorway tolls, insurance levies for non motoring scandals and mismanagements. Socialisation? Don't make me laugh.
Can the mods lock this thread as it's just turning into a cyclist Vs motorists argument, its just like an extension of Twitter at this stage.
Ah sure fair enough, why would anyone be fretting about yet further socialisation of the costs of motoring, so everyone gets to pay a share of the costs, regardless of whether they actually have a vehicle or not.
Unfortunately andrew one doesn't get to choose how ones taxes are spent and if repairs to footpaths are getting you worked I'd suggest you have little to be fretting about.
Most drivers do, especially filter lights. When they turn red 2 or 3 cars will continue to drive.
as I said earlier when cyclists do it, it annoys drivers. When drivers do it they kill people.
i both cycle and drive
Yeah, why would anyone be getting worked up about having to pay again and again for repairs to footpaths, like the recently repaired spot outside Lidl/AiB Stillorgan, only to find drivers continuing to park, again and again and again there?
Calling the relevant authorities in DCC or DLR is generally fruitless, from extensive experience. DLR rarely police anything other than paid parking areas. Their priority is revenue protection, not safety.
Is it just as entitled as the 98% of drivers that break urban speed limits, or the majority of drivers who use their phones while driving? Is there any taxiperson of the mail variety willing to acknowledge this behaviour?
Just curious - what does 'acknowledging the behaviour' do for you? Are all cyclists responsible for the behaviour of all other cyclists?

Stand at the junction by honey Park with your camera and come back with the evidence. There are far far more cars breaking the lights there.
Most drivers dont go through red lights though.
I am sorry to say most cyclists do break red lights, its as if the lights dont apply to them.
I have a dash cam on my car so at least i will have evidence should one of these cyclists hit me.
The lights where the old dun laoghaire golf course roundabout used to be are actually shocking for cars red light jumping. Two occasions I have had to physically restrain my 5 year old from commencing the ped crossing on a green man as a car had still not completed the junction. What a brilliant example for kids innocently trying to use traffic infrastructure as it is intended. I use that junction daily and I see red light jumping practically every day. Unfortunately there are entitled jerks using every mode of transport.
I was walking my daughter home from Montessori today and a car went through the a red light (left coming from fleurville on to NTPA ) I had a green light to walk across so the lights hadn’t just changed. He was a dick, does that make all drivers dicks, no. Should I as a driver have to apologise for his behaviour, no. Your point is mute and badly executed at that.
Yes, but there is bad cyclist , likewise there are bad drivers.
bad cyclists are just annoying, bad drivers kill hundreds each year.
what’s your point?
taxi drivers are the worst in the road. I’ve been hit by two, first one pulled across I too the bus lane without looking as a person at a bus stop stuck out their hand.
second one was , pulled in without looking and let a passenger seat throw open the door.
I guess you'll never know Ted but the suspicion will always be there.
Im on Newtownpark Avenue this evening, male adult cyclist in front of me, sails through red light and cars sit waiting and waiting and waiting for the green.
Cyclist is down at the Texaco Garage before the lights change.
Is there any cyclist of the male variety willing to acknowledge this behaviour, they are so quick to pour vitriol on people who park on footpaths but this behaviour is just as entitled.
moan 4, I suspect the irony will be lost on you
You won't find my car parked on the footpath or anywhere else in Fintans Villas for that matter
fear not young crusader.
These are each perfectly valid contributions in the context of this discussion forum. Please take a look at the thread title once again. Perhaps it is uncomfortable for you to have a light shone on this entitled, anti-social and inconsiderate behavior. I wonder why.
Moan 3
Followed by an admission that instead of reporting any of this to the appropriate authority you post about it on an Internet forum instead.
My perception is fine but your self analysis could do with some work :D
Moan 2
Moan 1
Please describe to me where I moaned exactly. I think your perception is a little off here. Is this not the DL traffic and commuting forum? How is local opposition to the deansgrange cycle route and some of the myopic views expressed therein not a suitable subject for the discussion?
that moan. what do you think posting about it on boards achieves?
What moan. I pointed out the selfish attitude of certain motorists to sharing/re-allocating infrastructure with other vulnerable/sustainable transport modes.
far better moan on boards about for sure.
what flaw did you point out? i said a buggy or wheelchair would pass through that gap, my opinion hasnt changed.
are you sure that this is the exact same spot the other poster showed the image from?
i am not leading you to believe anything, just use the two things either side of your nose.
Also shows that the gaps are not as wide as you would have us believe?
