Some people are trying to have it both ways.
There are no problems unifying Ireland within a very short period because the two jurisdictions are not so different.
SF cannot be held to its Northern Ireland policies because the two jurisdictions are so different.
SF speak out of both sides of their mouth all the time, this is just another example.
With your usual rhetoric dripping off your post, I suspect I may be wasting my time, but no.....if they'd rather the UK bank roll them into the future, they're Unionists by definition. Economic Unionism is still Unionism.
Being born to a Nationalist background doesn't come with a lifelong membership, if you are talking from a United Kingdom perspective and favour NI remaining part of it, you're a Unionist by definition, even if your parents were the most ardent of Shinners....that's what Unionism is.
That’s an interesting point of view I have to say.
Strange in a lot of respects, I have to admit , difficult to understand ..
Takes all kinds I suppose……
Another example of Sinn Fein opposition to measures which promote integration and reconciliation. It is an absolute disgrace to see sectarian parties like the TUV, DUP and Sinn Fein oppose quite moderate proposals for integrated education.
"However, I will finish with Mr O’Dowd who took the strongest anti-integration stance (which has been thoroughly debunked) of any MLA in the chamber, possibly excepting Mervyn Storey of the DUP:
The identity in integrated schools is not neutral: in many of them, it is British. You can pay homage to the Crown but to no one else."
Sinn Fein propagandising lies in order to preserve sectarian-based education.
This makes no sense.
You are claiming N.I, under a united Ireland would still have British law, Stormont as is all over seen by westminister. Do you know what a UI entails?
I can see you mightn't if you don't understand the difference today.
It's an, 'interesting perspective' that someone who supports the continuation of the Union with Britain would be considered a Unionist?
I'd suggest you contact a few dictionaries to update them;
Unionist
in British English
(ˈjuːnjənɪst )
NOUN
1. (sometimes not capital)
a. (before 1920) a supporter of the union of all Ireland and Great Britain
b. (since 1920) a supporter of union between Britain and Northern Ireland
2. a supporter of the US federal Union, esp during the Civil War
ADJECTIVE
3. of, resembling, or relating to Unionists
I'd love to know how you define Unionism, Brendy....I suspect we'll get more of your usual nonsense you seem to think passes as wit instead though.
A point I unequivocally agree with you on, Blanch.....are there pigs flying tonight?
You seem to have a very polarized opinion on things Mr F.
You seem to think that everything is beautifully linear and there no little nuances and deviations and anomalies to consider.
Keep going with that idealistic view on things, buddy, it will get you a long way in life.
😂
Good lad.
Theres nothing polarising in saying people who wish to continue union with ni and uk,are em,unionists
Kind of an obvious fallacy to claim otherwise?
Incorrect my friend, now try and get your head around this.
There are people who look at the situation and figure that all things considered they would be better in the current situation.
However…….. if they felt that under the ROI they would have a better future that would be fine with them.
You see, it’s not all idealistic bulldust, it’s common sense,
Trying to compartmentalize folk into hard and fast categories is foolish and shows a lack of understanding of human behaviour.
In short there are many many folk who want a UI, but not at any cost.
They are not Unionists, my friend.
If yous do not want a utd iteland on money costs and prefer things continue as they are.....you favour the union,ie a unionist
If they change the mind and want a utd ireland, they are nationlist.....hardly earth shattering stuff....if people dislike the label unionist, while wanting to continue the union, they need catch hold of emselves...facts dont care, about feelings
Interesting to.use the 20th anniversairy of the beginning of the holy cross protests to have a pop at shinners over schools
Struggle.to believe this to be a coincidence
People need to cop on and look at the facts. The Northern Ireland Assembly is a devolved legislature akin to Scotland with similar powers.
https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/northern-ireland-assembly
The Northern Ireland Assembly is the devolved legislature for Northern Ireland. It has the power to make laws in a wide range of areas, including housing, employment, education, health, agriculture and the environment. It meets at Parliament Buildings, Belfast.
It also has powers in relation to revenue raising from council rates and property taxes. It also decides how to spend the vast subvention it gets from Westminster each year.
The idea that SF ministers in the Assembly are helpless little lambs that have zero say in any legislative or decision-making process is frankly both absurd and factually just not correct. It is a LIE!!
Therefore criticism of SF housing policy or lack of it in the North is very relevant to its discussion in the ROI, given they seem to have all the answers, yet don't enact any of their silver bullets in the North. Why is that? Because the vast majority of the stuff they are saying are lies when it comes to their utopian housing policy.
It is in both the DUP's and SF's interest to keep the status quo going as they both feed of the fear of the others, in the sectarian Balkanisation of the North.
Another example of the partitionist mentality of SF, where in the ROI they are all for getting the church out of schools, while in the North, they hold the door open for them and kiss the Bishop's ring.
What a knobhead. Say what you like about Sinn Fein but at least when their leadership decides to dispense with social solidarity and commonsense and skirt the regulations around oivud they do so in a good cause i.e. to star in a performative funeral for a man convicted of terrorist offences.
What regulations did he skirt?
In all the brouhaha about Micheal McConkey and his visibility or lack thereof I forget about his most recent contribution to peace and reconciliation. Once again demonstrating how he and his SF colleagues are the people best equipped to lead us forward into the shining light of a United Ireland.
I would have thought flying to another country (please God the rumours about the government jet are untrue) to take part in an activity not permitted in your own country could at least loosely be described as "skirting". The lack of solidarity and commensense is obvious.
Absolutely nothing stopping you or anyone here doing what he did.
Do you want one rule for us and a different one for him?
If my brother flew to England to attend that festival I'd call him a knobhead.
Leaders are held to higher standards: it's because they are supposed to show, eh, "leadership".
Anyway this is a thread about SF; my comment about Varadkar was only made in passing.
are you saying theres nothing stopping me , or you , or anyone else from taking the govt jet to a gig ?
if it later is confirmed that varadker took the jet for his own personal use , that tax payers will be on the hook for , what do you think should happen then ?
dont go missing on me now jingle jangle !
Do as I say not as I do!
Na.... More of a partionist myself. Let the 6 mellow out and live as a normal society for a few new moons. Then let us all decide.
These are contradictory. Labelling in one post and criticising people who label in the next. all over the place.
Your free to be a partionist and favour it (despite it clearly being a failure),just cant bemoan when someone points out the fact
Theres a new moon every month,so a few will have passed by xmas,we can hold a border poll over xmas break,if necessary
And bankrolled they'd have to be whatever the future brings Brendan.
All those "community workers" and self-ordained "pastors" aren't suddenly going to discover anything resembling a work ethic any time soon.
Complete shambles of a society fully endorsed by a government of hard-line loons.
Few is a relative term. 3 or 4 billion of a hole to fill in finances for a UI is nothing to some... 3 or 4 hundred moons to me is a few
Nah, read the posts my friend and try to understand them.
No point in going off half cocked.
Another absolute disgrace from Sinn Fein. We didn't attend it, but we didn't boycott it. Who are they kidding?
Say what???? I don't see Brendan labelling anyone in either post.
Maybe I am completely stupid, but point out exactly where he labels anyone.
