The failure to debate reeks of cowardice and of a flawed housing plan.
This sums it up for me.
👀👀
A bizarre one alright.
I thought Darragh was going to spontaneously combust on Morning Ireland. Very tetchy and defensive.
Fionnan Sheahan on Twitter: "He’s fierce ratty. #HousingForAll" / Twitter
Same last night. Difficult to listen to, he needs someone to pull him aside and settle him.
He is probably livid that FG have stolen the limelight with their dodgy dealings. Arguably FF will lose more votes than FG at the next GE due to the anger around the housing crisis - a 'they started it' kinda perception.
PUP - the progressive unionist party?
I don't know how anyone can take Darragh O'Brien seriously...not least because I think of Henry Sellers from Father Ted everytime I see him.
He has an all encompassing arrogance.
Another one.
O'Broin does know his brief too. I believe he has written academic books on the subject.
One word, MICA, he's hitched his wagon to the block makers,
Looks like more money for their developer mates,
Lorcan Sirr referred to it as a 'Plan For the Housing Business' yesterday.
And someone needs to strap his feckin hands to his side's. Emphasising every single word with exaggerated hand and arm movements = someone who's winging it imo.
He must be getting coaching of Michéal Martin in hand and arm movements.
I noticed that too. I think Miriam was annoyed by it. It doesn't come across well.
O'Brien was asked why the previous Housing Plan failed (a FG one). He said they were reviewing that now and would produce a report on it.
Newsflash - maybe you should produce the report first and learn some lessons from it before creating a new housing plan!
Fail to prepare....
He should just ask his coalition partner Peter Burke...Peter reckons FG's plan failed because 'people kept going homeless'...the spoilsports!
Yes, he really said that on Drivetime yesterday. 😁
PUP because Paul Murphy wants indefinite lockdown, so everyone in this country can enjoy indefinite PUP
I nearly crashed on the M50 when I heard that Francie. 🤣
Anyone else listening to Richard Bruton and Roisin Shorthall going toe to toe on newstalk? Not often I hear Bruton losing the rag, but he's done it this morning with Roisin. Housing being the topic by the way.
No trust in Roisin Shorthall after she cried for endless lockdown. Opposition parties are joke here
Haha, indeed. Sinn Fein curently objecting to thousands of apartments in various parts of Dublin.
Do you have the reasons for those objections?
Most appear to be ideological grounds (free market, "vulture funds" blah blah) and height (most of these developments are not even "high").
A housing crisis is no excuse for bad planning or enrichment of cronies.
That's just causing tomorrow's problems.
More density is something Dublin badly needs especially when compared to other cities. That is good planning.
We all know SF only has two interests - siding with local NIMBYs and keeping the problems going.
Thankfully they are by and large being ignored by planners who know full well we need a lot more supply.
More density without bad planning and enriching cronies.
Are most, not because they.dont want to hand away state land for free to developers?
We've bailed that lot out enough,no mind handing em free development land
Mica will eventually be solved by state paying out and a charge put on blocks for new houses, similar to the surcharge on insurance for quinn insurance......its the only commonsense solution
Though while i wish em well, terrible situation caused by sh1t corporate governce, ultimately fault of government... i feel the mica protesters are a bit like those with negative equity during the recession,a v.niche area
How severe is the problem,% wise??
No. Most are private applications currently in the planning process.
Mary Lou McDonald is currently objecting to 1,600 apartments in Drumcondra. Nothing to do with public land.
She's doing that to be in with the NIMBYs who bleat about more housing- just not where they are.
