end of May , I thought it was going to be later, yipee.
One more trailer for the road; you definitely get the benefit of all that "in cockpit" footage, though there were a few suspiciously fake, CGI shots...
I can't imagine this ever being as quotable as the original but, let's face it, Top Gun was never about the script... or even the plot tbh. Once they have epic, well shot, dog-fights with real planes tearing off runways to that theme tune, I'll be happy...
Well, the three screenwriters are: Christopher McQuarrie (who wrote and directed all the latter-day Mission Impossibles, so knows how to craft a damn fine action movie); Ehren Kruger (who cowrote 3 of the 5 transformers movies, and so doesn't know how to write an action movie!); and Eric Warren Singer (whose biggest credit is co-writing American Hustle, worked with Kosinski before with Only the Brave so may just onboard to punch up some parts).
McQuarrie's the standout there, but I wouldn't know to what extent each of the 3 men has contributed to the script that was shot. If it's all McQuarrie... hype! If it's all Kruger... uh-oh.
Unless Tom wrote it himself can it really be that good??? 😁
Thats a good point you make about it being "Real".
From the clips I've seen, the action looks real and genuine unlike so many modern blockbusters with their blatantly fake cgi which robs it of any suspense.
They used a revolutionary 6 Imax camera setup in each cockpit.
I have no doubt that visually and sonically it will be groundbreaking, the question is will the script be good enough.
I doubt it'll lose money, I'd just wonder how well it'll do against a climate allergic to anything other than dependable brands. What's in its favour for sure is Tom Cruise's latter-day attempts to kill himself on screen via a late stage middle age crisis; means the action should be spectacular - and "real". We've already seen footage of Cruise shotgunning a takeoff; while Joseph Kosinski has shown himself an able visual director.
I'd be surprised if it lost money and I really doubt it will pull in a billion. Its the one film this year where ill be saying "son were going to the cinema!" so yeah to the nostalga and lots of dog fighting jets and cool aircraft carrier scenes, whats not to like!!!
I'd say there's an additional element in there of Cruise gaining a heap of experience building on top of a franchise with Mission Impossible.
Staying somehow grounded to the original feel and yet building on it doesn't sound easy for sure.
Plus, there's got to be a weight of expectation from the fans of the original.
Anyway.. I've just googled for a theme for top gun maverick and listen to two versions.. no pressure to the producers 😁
Top Gun Maverick Theme - Epic Version
Top Gun Maverick (SoundTrack)
Celebrate America HooRah energy with a German sports car 😁
Wikipedia's telling me this coat $152 million; now under the Hollywood Accounting rule of 2x the budget to break even - plus maybe some extra lost for the various delays - that's north of $300 million worldwide before this film makes money.
I'm dead curious to learn how this does; assuming the film's not a piece of ****, whether (Cruise + Nostalgia) - CoVid can pull a crowd. This still opening in China? Given previous issues over having a Taiwanese flag in the trailer (the horror).
Superbowl night! Top Gun / Porsche ad.
Porsches going fast.. clips from the movie.. and The Music! .. awe yeah.. the music!
Top Gun: Maverick x Porsche
Tom Cruise in an introduction to an American Football match this evening.
Combined with Top Gun Theme and Clips of the new film.
Enough to have me wanting another trailer, I'll say that much!

Best thing in Footloose remake
Today I learned a gosling is a young goose. They missed a trick with the casting.
interestingly concert tickets are selling in record times at the moment in the States.
FFS, we could be looking at a posthumous release at this stage!
"Paramount, like other studios, regularly consults with epidemiologists on decisions such as this"
This made me laugh. What a dystopian world we live in now!
Hollywood Reporter saying as much about the Box Office money..
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/top-gun-maverick-mission-impossible-7-release-date-tom-cruise-1235006871/
The date moves come as concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and its delta variant continue to hamper theater attendance and make putting tentpoles into cinemas a risky proposition for studios. Paramount, like other studios, regularly consults with epidemiologists on decisions such as this, and the studio is hopeful the box office will recover in 2022 when these films are now set to open.
And Jackass Forever too! The Paramount Push to 2022.
My first assumption was that Tom wants his full slice of the box office and the studio wants him to have it too.
Do we have an inkling why both have been pushed back? Cluttered schedule or just Delta anxiety in the US?
M:I7 delayed as well.
