Mayo most of the time they met better teams. They often over performed.
Mayo being labelled as bottlers, or BS like 'ive never used the term bottlers' is really lazy stuff.

Other years I would be seeing obvious reasons why Mayo would not win. Inexperienced sideline. Not enough scoring forwards, weak bench etc. Strength of opponents etc.
Not this time. Even the likes of Tommy Conroy is a great sub. Only thing that can really stop Mayo is themselves with pressure or letting Tyrone rattle them. All the tools are there for Mayo this time. If Tyrone do it will be because Mayo did not perform.
Edit just checked bookies have Mayo 5/6 favs - so I am not the only one who favours the men from the west.
Agreed. The 6 in a row Dublin team would have beaten that Tyrone team quite easily especially if given the amount of possession Kerry got. This is Mayos best chance of an AI probably this century.

They are all wrong. You started talking about Laois seniors. And then said 'they lost to Galway'. Fact is you knew nothing about Sugrue 2007/08 and had to be corrected about Laois div 4 to 2 and Leinster final.

I actually corrected myself on his Laois record just after I made my original post but you may have missed it.
I thought it was blindingly obvious that I was referring to him stepping down from the Kerry U20s job when I followed up with having previously managed Laois in the next sentence.

I mean win or lose they’ll be back challenging for it again. A couple of years ago (pre Horan) the panel and incoming players looked like they’d a year or two at best left before disappearing for a while. He’s done a great job there.
You accusing me of not reading. Many of the 2007/2008 AI winners acknowledged him as a driving force behind their wins. He has serious respect in Kerry. And managing a division 2 senior side is equally as good preparation, one would surely agree, as managing U17s like Keane.
Fact is Sugrue is a big name, living in Laois and having a young family aside, for the Kerry job. Laughing him off and my post as a windup shows complete lack of knowledge.
Where do you cut your teeth for the Kerry job? Paidi and O'Connor underage. Pat O'Se divisional sides like Sugrue. Oige Moran, managed no one at all of note and got the job in 1993. Sugrue's base is as strong as any other.
And even if you corrected your initial post, that's fair enough, but you only corrected false information you put in your first post.
This is indeed the only time Mayo have been favourites going into an All Ireland final this century, and probably in all of the finals since and including 1989.
I cannot remember how many managers for Mayo has done a great job.
None of them ever owned the Cup on the Sunday night.

Why are Mayo favorites... I think the best game of football i seen this year was Donegal/Tyrone a few months ago...
That’s what the bookies have them as. Likely down to a similar algorithm as what Laoisman has in the football rankings thread as well as where the money has been placed so far. When I last checked PP had Mayo as 4/6 and Tyrone at 6/5 to lift the cup - I reckon it’s a lot closer to a 50/50 game myself but I’m not taking the bets and setting the odds.
A lot will depend on the money going on both teams. Large betting companies use complex formula's and alogrithm to calculate odds. In the case of one off events it's often a natter of setting the odds to take a small margin no matter who wins. Or better still if the game is a draw after 90 minutes you keep all the money
And rightly so....I can't seeing them being stopped this year. It is going to be fantastic watch them celebrate their win after so many heartbreaking moments at Croke Park

Has everyone forgotten how awful Mayo were in the 1st half? Dublin were steamrolling them. Dublin then imploded, and Mayo took the opportunity. It is certainly going to give them plenty of belief, but they didn't beat 'Dublin'. They destroyed a poor imitation of Dublin. (that is not meant as a dig, Mayo did great, just that it was almost two completely different teams they faced in the one game)
So it the 1st half a true reflection of Mayo? Or did they massively step it up in the second half? They certainly stepped it up, but Dublin massively declined. It seemed they thought they had it won, and then couldn't get back to the level required. They key is whether Dublin in the second half were better or worse than Tyrone. I think they were largely awful, pretty much anyone would have beaten Dublin on their 2nd half display. Could any other team have the belief that Mayo had? I think this Tyrone team certainly have that level
As impressive an achievement as it was, and it certainly took plenty of guts and determination, will it be enough to play against a Tyrone team that will not simply stop playing after half time? I think people are mixing up Mayo beaten the real Dublin (or at least what Dublin used to be) to what they ended up beating.
I imagine a lot of it is down to beating the unbeatable team.
Mayo have only really had 2 big championship fixtures so we don't have much else to go off this year
6/5 is a great price to get if you feel that way.

My opinion is based exactly on what you say as they played well against donegal who i think are a reasonably good team.
