It was a far better game than any game I've seen involving Dublin in recent years. It was players going at each other, forcing errors, winning turnovers, running at defences
It wasn't the 'chess' style of football where they conserved energy, cynically dived, passed the ball around your own half of the pitch for minutes on end until the opposition got sucked in by sheer boredom and frustration...
Kerry made some tactical mistakes, but the intensity was there for almost the full 100 minutes and that's what you want to see in an all ireland football final
Sean Cavanagh just said it is the first time Tyrone beaten a top team since 2008. There is a man who appreciates what a massive result this is.
I think this is a great point. Half get the feeling Kerry thought they'd the All Ireland won when Dublin were knocked out.
The two finalists have the lowest cumulative All Ireland titles (three each) since Mayo-Donegal in 2012.
Agreed. I was debating on who was worse, but its Kavanagh, just. He's proven a bad winner by trying to cut across Pat Spillane eating a massive slice of humble pie and saying Tyrone were better and deserved the win.
Tyrone were 14/1 earlier in the week for the All-Ireland!
The All-Ireland is coming back to Ulster. Tyrone doggedness and lack of pressure (beating Kerry is already bonus territory) will see them over the line. Mayo already win their final a few weeks back.
Well, that wasn't in the script, was it? Kerry paid the price for the old adage 'never give a sucker an even break'! That game should have been played two weeks ago with whatever team Tyrone had that was cleared fit to play.
Sean Cavanagh has to be the most insufferable panelist on RTÉ...things are tough when he's making Pat look rational and level-headed.
I can't understand how Paul Geaney and Jack Barry failed to get the curly finger from Peter Keane.
Outside his late point Geaney was anonymous.
Deserved Tyrone win. Why would David Clifford be cramping after 70min, it's a 21c evening, not 30c.
Spillane is 65/66, old school, and shouty as we all know. But Cavanagh is late 30s and should be more composed. His screeching and total bias re. black cards is abysmal. He should be out to grass too. Anthony Tohill, who was analysing 15 years ago was far more professional, if you're looking for northern input.
Bollix. Mayo have lost finals in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2020.
A semi final is no all ireland for them. Plus they have Tyrone's number. Unlike playing Kerry.
Well it's not just Mayo now that need to get themselves grounded for a final after such a big high
More than a wry smile. This Dub can't stop laughing !
Yep... all the people bigging Kerry up as the new great side for the next x years... hmmmmm
I can’t see the final being a great game for the football purists.. both sides while stacked with very decent talent are master exponents of the dark arts too...
Coldrick & co will need eyes in the back of their heads. I’d say Coldrick will need to be very consistent and very positive in his decision making from the second the ball is thrown in... fearless too in his application of the rules and not shy to use cards of all three colors where necessary, from the off...either way I genuinely hope whomever wins we get to talk about football instead of referees, dodgy challenges or any kind of negative tactics...
Prefer Oisin McConville.
Eh, your defence for Mayo winning an All-Ireland is losing 5 finals in a decade?
I think he might have been injured in clash with morgan. Not sure it was cramp.
Repeating your nonsense doesn't make it any truer. The Ulster champions beat the Munster champions. It's no more a seismic shock.
Your defence is getting to an all Ireland in 2018 and been bet out the door. 1989, 2004, 2013 etc Mayo love playing Tyrone. Love it.
That's not the first time that's happened to Clifford. He doesn't see it out well in games. Maybe he'll grow into himself as he ages.
What was so horrible today?
Well the whole covid sham was pretty horrible.
Spillane needs to get his P45, poor analysis and his alluding to Tyrone cheating re Covid needs addressing, bad loser even as a pundit.
Mayo have been experts at loosing... they’ve lost 7 finals in the last 20 years. Appeared in almost a third of the finals in that timeframe, two decades yet never won even one...
Tyrone 1 final in that timeframe... they don’t have the same exact pressure, hangups..psychological scars.
Nothing. The Kerry lads diving in the scoring zone was the only thing i found horrible.
Tyrone were brilliant. The work rate of some of their players was extraordinary. Mattie Donnelly MOTM for me. Always the link man and always safe in possession.
That was probably Tyrone's All Ireland. See you in 2 weeks time. Think they've the job nearly done.
I wouldn’t be so cocky. I do hope Mayo win, but you’ve got to respect this Tyrone team
😁😁
He won't get the chance to give them the curly finger again. He'll be out on his hole after this.
Despite the best efforts of many commentators and others to bring Mayo down, the fact is they're the only team to run Dublin close consistently over the past decade. Where have Kerry been? Knocked out in Semi finals or beforehand. The sheer arrogance of articles from Kerry pundits claiming they wished they'd been the team to beat Dublin - trying to take credit for Mayo's hard fought victory. Same Kerry team were getting cramp and couldn't survive extra time today while Mayo looked like they had miles left to run against Galway in the Connacht final in hotter conditions.
Kerry were completely overhyped. Tyrone came in under the radar supposedly struck down with 'Covid'. Funny, Kerry looked like the team who couldn't survive extra time, not Tyrone.
There's something to be admired in a team who keeps returning to the semi final / final stage or a competition despite suffering many defeats in the process. Mayo play much better football than Tyrone also.
