Ireland has a long history of UN deployments around the world. Are you saying we should not involve ourselves with the UN anymore? Maybe we should just leave the UN? Wasnt there a political party back in the day that was against this? Hmmm... I wonder who that was! :)
Comparing the use of Shannon as a refuelling stop, to an actual military airbase belies the nature you want to have this debate. Phoney and dishonest.
As per Coveney, are you seriously suggesting that we should have sent Coveney to Kabul? What on earth would that have achieved?
No, we had the option of not supporting the resolution. As a properly 'neutral' country IMO we should have.
Regarding the UN in general, I object to it being controlled by the 5 nuclear powers who us their veto's and the security council to protect their own strategic interests. Resolution 1385 was one of those.
But we adopted it, so we should be there to clean up the mess...the point I made.
Sure what could go wrong lads??
It was claimed at the time the apartment was part of the deal. Not sure if it was confirmed or denied.
Link?
Link to what?
Take it or leave it Maryanne. It's my recollection of the rumpus. I remember an apartment being mentioned as part of the deal. If I am wrong, big deal, it's no longer at issue, the appointment was stopped by people power.
She'd have been entitled to vouched expenses for her time in Dublin but not her owned/rented residence abroad
Probably new york taxi receipts en route to UN business
So that would have been an untrue exaggeration
Must every government discourse descend into toxic misinformation
So, basically you’re talking nonsense. As usual.
And of course NYC - Dublin and reverse flights, which I doubt Katherine would be flying economy with Aerlingus. Nice perk if you like to spend a bit of time in Dublin on other people's coin. Same too for Dublin hotels, Katherine chose the Merrion because it was well versed in Covid Regulations, not because it was a 5 star luxury residence (obviously) again, if someone else is picking up the tab, nice perk.
More grubby details will hopefully seep out following Coveneys meeting on Tuesday. Can't help get the feeling though that this was Leo's baby, and Coveney is carrying the can on it.
Are you saying someone else paid for her Shindig ?
A lot of government agencies, like companies have a long haul travel policy btw
Government agencies inexplicably send their people business class
As for "more grubby details will hopefully seep out"
Thats an example of toxic anti government hear say
No what I'm saying is, and I thought it was abundantly clear from my post, as I didn't write it in cryptic form, had Katherine's crony appointment proceeded, (pay attention to this bit marine, I'll bold the important bits) she would have:
Been able to fly back and forward to Dublin from NYC and vise versa at others expense*. (highly unlikely to be doing so economy on Aerlingus etc)
Been entitled to stay in hotels in Dublin at others expense* (and we can see from where she held her soirée, she enjoys nice hotels, no Louis Fitzgerald for Katherine)
(*Both highly lucrative perk's if, as Katherine clearly did, like to spend time in Dublin anyway, even better if you can do so in a luxurious manner, on the coin of others)
But thankfully the crony appointment was called out and it didn't proceed.
Hopefully all the grubby little details about the role, what it involved and what she would have been entitled to from it, and who was behind it will seep from Coveneys meeting on Tuesday coming.
How would it be toxic info at this stage? The appointment isn't happening. Are you holding out hope that it still might? 😁
Because you're lying about it
I'm at a loss as to how hoping all the grubby details of Zappones appointment = "anti govt hearsay"
Either marine layer doesn't realise it wasn't a govt appointment, it was a FG appointment, (FG are not the government) and also doesn't understand the term "hearsay". It's not 'hearsay' to hope to get the "facts"
Will chalk that one down as a swing and a miss on both points.
Lying about claims being made she was also getting an apartment?
According to Merriam Webster, two of your non factual claims about an apartment in New York are lies
No biggy to me,You probably believe it
I treat such hearsay the same as I do anti vax crap
Agenda driven
There were claims about the apartment though, I read about the claims myself online.(what prompted me to ask about it to begin with FFS)
Who made the claims, and whether or not there was any veracity to them is what you and your pal should have been asking.
But the claims are out there, that's not a lie.
I could claim to be a natural blonde with a Marilyn Monroe figure. Doesn’t make it true.
That's why they're called CLAIMS Maryanne. (Not to be confused with the type pursued by certain FG TDs)
Francie was and is correct, there was claims made about Zappone apartment rent being part of the crony appointment. The veracity of such claims will become clear hopefully following the upcoming investigation(s)
Bit of residual bitterness about I would claim.
Who's my pal that you are referring to? I've no pal here
All I'm reading here today so far on this is toxic misinformation
No facts
Please do come back to me with any actual facts (not hearsay toxic or otherwise) if you get any and I'll give an opinion
Facts don't really matter anymore, just run with a narrative and if enough people believe it that becomes the story, Zappone should never have been humoured by FG but she was and now they've tainted themselves ,
'Them others do it too' means absolutely nothing. It was a makey up crony position with expenses we should never have been expected to pay. It was a sweet deal for Zappone. Nod and wink culture.
There's a lot you claim that sounds pretty suspect Maryanne.
How can 'toxic information' be given out about a non existent appointment? Are you are still living in hope that this might happen?
There most definitely were discussions on this thread about accommodation being covered.
If it was still a live issue I'd go looking, Can't be bothered, believe or don't believe, no odds to me.
Don't get too hung up on the "pal" word marine, was just used in the context that Maryanne made a comment, and you followed soon afterwards whistling a fairly similar tune.
Also, there's been a few sly insinuations from yourself today that my posts you quoted were portraying an alternative scenario than what they actually were, prompting me to have to follow up with posts stating they weren't cryptic, and having to bold certain elements of them in the follow ups.
And you're on here whinging about "toxic misinformation"?
Oh my days.
I think the toxic misinformation and toxic hearsay descriptions of the non factual posts above have hit a bit of a nerve
No "nerve hit" here Marine, nothing could be further from the truth in fact, just yesterdays sunny afternoon and early evening was spent out my back area watching Tyrone beat Kerry with a few cold frothy ones in the late August sunshine, I chose that as a priority to logging on here and correcting your wrongs, hence the late reply.
There was nothing "toxic" questioning the various "claims" that were floating around ref Zappones FG appointment. You want to keep up the "hearsay" spiel, that's your choice of words, whereas the rest of us are just hoping for the details (warts and all) of the cronyism start making their way Into the public domain, and the public can form their own opinions on who was behind it, and how to react to it come election time.
That's uncomfortable for those who keep beating the FG drum - I get that, but it's coming down the track towards them, no stopping it now marine. Choo Choo.
**It should also be noted that on several occasions - you tried distancing this turd from being a FG produced turd, by implying it was a govt appointment, and likening it to other govt appointments. In the next breath you were whinging about "toxic misinformation" lol. Couldn't write it tbh 😆**
Our clueless government and their daft legacy around social housing will cost a fortune.
Investors lease former social housing properties back to state | Business Post
Large institutional investors have started to lease former social housing properties, originally built by the state, back to the state for use as social housing under lengthy lease arrangements.
The Business Post has learned that second-hand homes in old council estates are now being rented to South Dublin County Council at an estimated rent of €1,500 a month, with no option for purchase at the end of the 25-year lease.
Clearly I have hit a nerve, because most of the above diatribe has nothing to do with anything I've said
