Compared to ISIS and its offspring, the Taliban are definitely liberal. They're fanatical, cruel, sadistic, and are looking to reimpose basically medieval system, but they're generally content to stick to earthly power and act like a state, even though a barbaric one. As long as you stick to their rules, you'll likely be left alone.
ISIS and its various offshoots on the other hand are complete and utter lunatics. They're basically a doomsday cult, looking to bring about the Islamic version of the End of Days and Judgment Day, which basically is almost identical to its Christian counterpart in the book of Revelation. A pretty tell-tale sign of this is their emphasis of the capture of the town of Dabiq in Syria back in 2016. Dabiq is seen as the location of one of the final battles that will bring about said end of days, similar to Tel Megiddo in Christianity, or as the latter site is more popularly known, Armageddon. To them, anyone who doesn't agree with their view of events is already damned, so they will attack anyone, even other muslims.
Biden to speak at 9pm Irish time. At least 72 now confirmed dead in the bomb attacks.
Another explosion apparently.
Disaster for Biden. No coming back from this now.
Another huge blast in Kabul - AFP
...
Well there is.
Isn’t it 10 pm Irish time for his address ? I think I heard 5pm ET but I wasn’t right next to the TV.
Afraid not. I'd high hopes for him but let's be honest here he's handled this whole episode dismally.
Jesus some of the footage from the scene CNN have been showing is sickening. Absolute scumbags
Yes 10PM Irish.
Tory Blair
Reports are that's the Americans blowing up their supplies inside the airport perimeter before they leave.
Looks like a false alarm thankfully!
….
sarcastic or serious?
either way, that should of been done before the troops pulled out
That's good I suppose but what a way to have to do it. Unreal.
Seems like we are talking hours rather than days till the mission is over. Some Americans and other Allied citizens will almost certainly be left behind.
This from Ian Bremmer says it all:
They ordered out the Dutch and a few other countries so they are preparing to split ASAP I'd say.
This is a grim time. Feel very depressed this evening thinking about this and how helpless we are to help these people. Literally hell on earth.
Before someone starts, don't attack me for having empathy with fellow human beings.
The US decision to pull out has been nothing short of a disaster.
RtE news said its just after 10pm and will be on RTE news now station.
How many more US/UK/NATO personnel need to be killed for nothing?
I’m not a fan of Biden but he is right in saying it doesn’t matter how long more they spent there. This was always going to be messy. not exactly much you can do when a lad walks into a crowd with a bomb attached to him.
Will be surprised if Biden is punctual this evening, he’s been late by up to 5 hours for scheduled pressers and that’s when he bothers showing up.
It's really starting to look like Pakistan have been given the green light to use Afghanistan territory and their Taliban proxies within it to wage a massive war against ISIS-K before that branch of ISIL gain more of a further stranglehold on South East Asia.
Exactly where does it end?
When the 38 million are out???
I was surprised we sent what i was told our most elite troops (Rangers) considering we had no involvement for the last 20 years that i know of I was not aware these troops existed. A few hours after i was told this i heard they were on the plane out...
Clearly the Taliban are not going to let the people who worked for the US and others leave. Its going to be awful as the Afgans have had a kindof western life and now its going to be different...
that cant be correct. thats 52% of the population.
20 million??????
No and I wouldn't go that far either. And if you got that from my post that is a wrong assumption.
Instead I would be putting the microscope on US foreign policy and why we (EU member States) are aligning ourselves to clear misjudgements.
The EU gets the fallout.
Sounds like Northern Ireland 🙄
