The usual places.
Typical Pakled response.
The Boimler solution is a great example of building on what's come before. This series isn't perfect but the level of care they put in to getting things right is just great. Sure, they did kind of contrive it to be the same situation but the transporter chief on the Titan explaining she was doing the exact same procedure the chief on the Potemkin did was perfect. I'd love to see Will Boimler show upagain as full lieutenant while Brad is still an ensign.
I'd be shocked if it doesn't circle back that way. Titan Boimler seemed very at ease in his own skin and could see him fast track his way up the officer tier; the show has been quite open about its themes on the value of promotions, duty etc. Last season we saw mariner come to terms with her status, maybe it's going to be Boimlers turn.
Just sitting around minding my own business and then replayed the sweetcorn joke from this week's episode in my mind. That was a brilliant moment.
Your probably right. The, I assume, daring escape from the Pakleds is a very typical life changing moment you see on TV.
What about Lt. Tuvok though? Are we to assume that he burns his sweetcorn black before it gets stuck on his uniform? (He was promoted to Lt. Cmdr later in the series)
maybe vulcan corn is black?
If not Better Boimler, then the other ensign spurned at the end of Episode 2 (whose name I forget). I'd reckon either of those might make good "big bads". But given last season it was about reconciling Mariner's ambition, would make sense this season it interrogates Boimler's own.
Man, feels weird talking character complexity in a Nu Trek show. I've been gaslit so much by Discos "let's all tell each other we're amazing! Positive vibes only!" approach to character work.
Lower Decks is the best trek show in 25 years. It's just a joy.
My brother has a fantastic theory. Boimler's "twin" isn't a transporter double. It's a ...dun dun dunnnnn...Dominion changeling taking advantage of the situation.
It's more likely we will see Boimler back as XO of the Titan in a few years...the "what if" version of Boimler.
Am I the only one interested in finding out who's the puppet master behind the Pakled advances??
Leave it for a Titan spin-off.
I think I might have spotted just the tiniest continuity mistake in the episode. Remember when Captain Freeman, Ransom and Migleemo, the bird psychologist were discussing the Collector's intentions and at one stage they made the pun about collecting Data and why couldn't they just leave Data alone. Present tense. This is supposed to be set shortly after Nemesis and therefore Data is supposed to be dead as far as Starfleet are aware.
I dunno. The twin certainly seems different to "our" Boimler. But Thomas Riker also had a different personality to our Will Riker. Like okay he was trapped down on that planet for many years but I still can't imagine our Will Riker carrying out that Defiant heist that Thomas Riker pulled in DS9 even with Thomas Riker's experiences.
I did re-watch Samaritan Snare recently, and although the Pakleds were clearly morons, they had a cold aggressiveness to them that could have driven them into collecting more and better weapons. In that initial TNG episode alone they had already managed to fit their ship with a powerful Romulan shield system.
Couldn't is past tense isn't it? Can't would be present.
A: "I had to stay late at work."
B: "Why couldn't you leave?"
I think the Pakleds aren't actually unintelligent they just don't have a very sophisticated language (at least not the spoken part) or *adjusts duranium foil hat* they do it on purpose to put other races at ease so they can take advantage of them.
Wonder if they were asked to go help out with the other collector's collection as well after he was killed.
Ah I hope the Pakleds stay as they are; pulling in some grander, galactic conspiracy would run a little counter to the low-stakes of Lower Decks. The Cerritos is supposed to be a lower rung and happy to be just that.
I wasn't implying they should be part of a universe ending plot just that they intentionally make themselves look stupid to make potential victims lower their guard.
Sorry was replying to TheValeyards speculation about them, not your response. Should have quoted better.

Right. I was wondering if it was a deep cut given the tattered TOS uniform.
I keep wondering if they really want Lower Decks to be a sort of spiritual sequel to TAS. They just keep referencing it so very often :)
I suppose it's the only other cartoon. I do love how any time they show something from Those Old Scientists they use TAS drawing style
I feel the new security office will run hiscourse very soon, like 80% of the skits they can do with him are already done in episode 2.
I assumed they'd have Shaxs come back - probably escaping from the Temple of the prophets, with the Emissary in tow...
God I miss Shaxs. He was awesome.
I also feel like they could have done something more fun with the Tamarian jokes. Just throwing in stuff like "Shaka when the wall fell" seems a bit empty.
You could have had new or more interesting Tamarian metafors or even new ones based on what was going on like:
"Tendi, her madness shown, her jealousy clear as f*cking daylight"
I am not sure they would get away with the clear as Fu-cking daylight bit lol.
But ye some new metaphors for it would have been good.
Expanding the Tamrian language would be great. It would be much easier to understand now too since it's essentially constructed on meme referencing and like the end of Darmok showed it takes no time to add a new phrase to the language.
A couple of Star Trek centric ones off the top of my head
"Senetor Vreenak, holding the data rod" - You deceived me / This is FAAAAAAKE!!!
This is quote is the Borg pursuit - perfection
