I thought the standard on Saturday was dreadful myself.
For excitement it was 8/10, but for football it was about a 2/10.
Ger Gilroy was on other morning saying how football is about to bust open and become a super game. I want what whatever he is smoking.
The man most at fault for getting mclaughlin injured is his team mate for giving him that loose pass. It left him open and there isn't a player playing inter County that wouldn't have accepted that gift exactly the same way Small did. Small went to bury him that is the game don't give me this BS about a duty of care or decelerating it's the heat of championship battle, if you are thinking about another players welfare you won't survive out there. Anyone that doesn't understand that doesn't understand the game. Small didn't go out to break his jaw, but he went out to make a statement hit, turn over the ball and change the momentum of the game.
I think there was only one lad that suggested that the shoulder should be removed. Even Titanium made the point that he was coached to ere on the side of caution for high speed shoulder's. The onus is on Small to make sure he makes the eight contact. In this case McLaughlin was wide open so the onus was completely on Small to adjust his position coming in as McLaughlin was not aware of the incoming contact.
You have this on a lot of sports where the player planning contact is responsible for the safety of the player he is tackling. In Rugby they stopped spearing tackling and tackling in the air. It the responsibility of the a rugby player that if he put a player up into the air in a tackle that he brings him back to ground safely.
Smalls challenge was reckless in that he had no control of the contact he planned
Exactly, I think there is a lot of lads putting stuff up here that have never kicked a ball. The game is so possession based now that it can be a hard watch, take the hits out of it and it is finished.
Hes always been at that craic. He approached the mayo player from behind , wrapped his right arm around him and pinched him in the stomach, the mayo player turned around and pinched him back and laughed. Then philly put his 2 hand in the air turning around to remonstrate to the officials. Hand bags stuff really but not something I would be proud of see any of the kerry players doing.
On the Lane thing, I've never been a fan of his as a ref, but the calls for him to never ref another game are way ott. Obviously he missed the head contact and tried to let the game go. I wouldn't blame small either, for anyone who's played the game, they'll understand that nailing one of those strong shoulder to shoulder challenges can be a real momentum shifter and get the lads around you going, he wasn't far off getting it right, due to my own lack of footballing ability back in the day, those type of very hard shoulders and tackles were bread and butter, but in a high speed one we were always told to error on the side of caution and if your going to miss, miss on the back not the front of a player. All the same Small got it wrong and in hindsight it was a straight red. If he landed the shoulder and few inches to his right, and Dublin score the goal (like they would have in the past), we would be singing his praises. I even hear some plp calling for the shoulder to be banned from the game. God damn it the game already looks enough like basketball.
The Ref had a bad game but the result was a fair one in the end, hoped all the injured players make speedy recovery and we have 2 more matches to look forward to. Hopefully they'll be entertaining and may the best team Win😉
It wasn't yourself I was referring to as "knowing little about Gaelic football", but sure, I'll tar ya.
What were the three points?
Did ya look at the goal I posted? Incidentally, if you go back a couple of minutes from that Kick out, Kerry's Paul Heaney had missed a penalty.
Shot-outs won't work given the goal size, though they have happened. I would hate the AIF to be decided on them. Replays build their own mystique and long may they continue. The 2019 series was wonderful.
Seems Dublin players are involved in this nasty stuff more, though.
This was classy from Connolly.
Seriously? What are you on about!?
Yes McEntee claimed one of his players was spat on in the face but there was no evidence of this so i think you are clutching at straws here. He couldnt name the player and it wasnt caught on camera . I think it was more of sour grapes from McEntee on the day as his team had been beaten
As a Dub you probably didn't follow the story so just to clarify it was an unproven allegation by Andy mcentee, who has form for saying those kinds of things after losing a match. It went nowhere, he was asked for further information and didn't give any, never named a player. That match was televised but no footage was produced. It was never investigated because it didn't happen, the utterances of a sore loser who had just snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory.
Not sure why you'd even bring it up? Other than to get in some weird little dig because you know I'm from kildare, but you couldn't be that petty surely
At least my example was part of this season. Just point out that other counties carry on is the lowest of the low.
Lol, well done, got me good there
Do you only watch Dublin matches?
Any thoughts on Tadhg Kennelly's assault on Nicholas Murphy at the throw in of the 2009 all Ireland final?
I mean that's a red in any man's language, but because it happened so early in the game it was deemed "too early" to send him off and "ruin the spectacle".
There's myriad of incidences over the last century you could point to.
You seem to be advocating for some sort of "competition committee". Imagine that.
---
Far be it from me to tell you what to discuss, but there are 3 teams left in the championship, and surely they're more deserving of discussion than an accidental shoulder to the head from a player on a team that is no longer in the championship after they had lost their first game in 7 years?
Should we be looking at sterner action and investigation into on field incidents that escape the attention of the referee and officials? Obviously, the Dublin senior footballers at the weekend really crossed the line but we've had other incidents involving other counties, hurling also. I think we should be looking at serial offenders especially. We know some players went through their whole careers getting away with nasty actions. I'm going to use the example of Phillip McMahon, only because we have video evidence of his antics. He was starting rows, pinching players and so on at the weekend and the last time Dublin played Mayo it was the same? He might have been less likely to participate in that behaviour if he had received appropriate punishment for some of the acts committed previously. Below are some videos I'm using as an example. It's not just Dublin players who have behaved like this, many counties have serial offenders.
Yes sir you are correct. I know little about Gaelic football. Guilty as charged.
Do you think the three points I made above are reasonable points?
Andy McEntee claims Meath player was 'spat on in the face' during defeat to Kildare (the42.ie) Id prefer a dunt in the back than this to be honest.
so do you expect every journalist who commented also in print or in interviews to post video links as well ? To satisfy your demand ? Every poster here the same ? Those who didn’t are ‘clowns‘... ? . :) I don’t need to back anything up. Hundreds of posters relate their views on sporting contests here, without feeling a need to trawl the inter webs looking for videos to ‘back up’ their views...your credibility is a little blown as is anyone’s who are not interested in discussion or debate rather just throwing insults at people... you disagree with what I’m saying all good and well but at least some of us can put a view across, agreeing or disagreeing with whomever without stooping to your levels.... :)
Lads, remember that other lad who came in here telling us that he knew little about the GAA, barely watched any games but this is "how things should be done"?
Anyway Bobby, here's a fine goal scored in the All Ireland Final Replay 2019. Possibly the finest goal I've ever had the pleasure to witness in Croke Park:

Am referring to
lack of great quality goals in Gaelic football.
Sub standard TV coverage ie lack of efficient TV replay of controversial incidents.
Lack of readily available stats about all GAA matters in the newspapers. Leading goalscorers for example. I would like to know and read about that. Someone said that J Canning (I think it was him) was the leading scorer in All Ireland hurling championship. I find that incredible. Surely people like Eddie Kehir scored more.
GAA isn't the Premier League, which restarted over the weekend. It has it's own thread here.
He's a big thick ignoramus. Hillgate 2006 and his shoulder into the back of Morrison, the Mayo selector, sums him up. You get a lot of his type in An Garda Siochana.
Is this a wind up?
For those who were saying O Shea was on the pitch well before the ref blew for full time. It is clear to see he only came on when Lane blew up and thankfully common sense has prevailed.
"However, it’s clear from replays that O’Shea entered the field after referee Conor Lane had blown for full-time"
More's the pity. A penalty shoot out would add some excitement to GAA. I am thinking of the Euros and so on. Great drama. This is where the GAA can not compete with football. It is very very rare to see exceptional goals in Gaelic. No goals are really exceptional at all. That may explain why there is no 'goal of the month' for example as the quality is not there.
I also never see a leading goal scorers table like in the Premier League. Why is that I wonder? Is it not an important thing? I would like to know who the leading goal scorer is, at a glance and regularly in the newspapers, just like the PL.
The coverage of the game was poor I thought. I was waiting a fair while to see replays in slow-motion and close up of fouls. It took ages. When the free was retaken because of something that happened off the ball-it took ages for them to show it again.
Only in the halfpenny league with the lads in the Dominance thread in fairness. Keep it going Strumms.
Some stamina and doggedness in fairness. Dessie should have thrown him on in extra time.
Strumms you need to get off this and stop making a show of yourself. Your the only one on here looking like a clown. Your saying Mayo got away with stuff that you cant back up. Look ye got beaten fair and square. Yes ye were the better team in the first half but after that Mayo were the better team and deserved there win and hopefully they can go on and win it now. When things were going against the Dubs they started acting like thugs. Both Small and McCarthy should have gotten red card. Sounding very bitter there lad 🍋
Just letting everyone know, I’ll be at both the 2nd semi final and the final of the football and the final of the hurling. Hoping for great games.
Remember caffrey ran across the pitch and shoulder an opposition coach in the back? Tells a lot about him as a person. He is pig ignorant - the complete opposite of what the dubs needed and isn't fit to lace the boots of gilroy or gavin
You should ask the media entities that get him on.
Anyway, rumour has it that this Championship still has another game or two left in it...
