Thats what kept Afghans alive in the past,,,,as they used to say " Allah and the UN" will supply us with what we need.
so it’s not true that other Muslim states are not taking Muslim immigrants. They are taking the rich ones.
Poppy derived. And precious stones.
Must be some temptation for the US ,most of the Taliban sitting there the including leadership in Kabul ,
Odd enough we seen an anti Taliban protest through the streets of Kabul today ,
Wonder how long before we see a total clampdown
The guy replacing merkel is armin laschet. Not an American puppet.
Pakistan is taking the vast majority whether they like it or not.
Most refugees will go to neighbouring countries
Tony Blair is remaining very quiet
In Jallalabad also protests, one dead and several ingured.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
As Mullah Omar famously stated: 'The Americans may have the clocks. But we have the time.' and so it has been proven.
No its not small..its the whole population, they are paralysed by fear. Up to a few days ago, there was the knowledge that the US was finally pulling out, but no one expected the speed at which the Taliban would take over. And Afghans know full well what they are capable of. So they are in shock, and bewilderment, and of course the ever present fear. And they are right to be afraid until the Taliban show their true colors. And after that, maybe they will be even more afraid than they are now.
Let their backers Pakistan, Iran,Qatar etc. put their money where there mouths are.
So what does that suggest to you?
That a nation of 38 million people are irrationally paralysed by fear? Or that the Taliban has a lot of support on the ground?
Outside of the cities, I'd say that they have plenty of support. However, by they time they reached Kabul, they effectively controlled or at least occupied 90% of the country. That would make any resistance within the likes of Kabul pretty pointless. So the better option was get outta Dodge.
While US stats put Taliban numbers at around 80,000 - 100,000, I'd wager that figure has been greatly increased over the past month. But even if it had increased by 100%, they wouldn't have had the result they had without support from the Afghan people.
It would remind you of that time a couple of Nazis forced the whole of Germany to to go to rallys and cheer Hitler in their droves and them fight bitterly to the death for something they didn't believe in
That's not even remotely the same situation.
I'll happily go through a long, LONG, history lesson about the Nazis, if you want. 😁
The entire population of Afghanistan has good reason to believe they might be killed by the Taliban? Including the Taliban themselves?
For the time being they'll probably make good on their promise to be good boys. There are a lot of countries with their eyes on them at the moment. But given what we know of them from the past, I'd say it won't be long before they start implementing their laws. The leadership of the Taliban are the same guys that have been around since the 80's, when they were fighting Russia, and they've just spent nearly 20 years knocking around the mountains waiting for an opportunity. So they know how to bide their time very well.
Western countries won't be long in releasing the money when the Taliban start allowing an exodus of refugees in the direction of Europe.
Let the Shanghai group deal with them now ,let's see russia , China ,Iran , Syria and a few Putin puppets bankroll them ,
The West gave them the best chance of turning the country around and maintaining stability for future generations ,but they threw it all away from extremists and harsh Sharia punishments
I don't need any history lessons. And I don't believe most Germans were "good Germans" same way I don't that the majority of Afghanistan rolled over to a group they don't support
I think the soviets would have secularised Afghanistan had the US not intervened. Look at the other stans.
Baradar had talks with Karzai in 2006 about a peace agreement, but Pakistan and America did not like it for different reasons so Baradar was lifted. I think what could happen going forward is we see in fighting among those who want Taliban 2.0, so they can attain power and perhaps get some international recognition in the process , and those who want all of Afghanistan to go back to how it was in 1996. Then there are the thousands of foreign fighters who put their lot in with The Taliban. Will the guys from the Doha office be able to control the hardliners. I suspect you do not see any difference between the two, that the Taliban are a unified entity that are merely waiting for The Americans to leave the airport before going back to their old ways. I suppose we will find out soon enough if you are right.
How many Afghans did Russia kill ,%of the population and still couldn't exert control over anything ,they done more damage than anything ,
I'm still have expecting the russian peacekeepers to arrive soon for joint patrols with the Taliban , claiming to be defending against terrorist
aa
Afghanistan is a long way from secularism but hopefully one day in the future they will edge towards it. Referenced it previously but I saw a report once somewhere that had the religiosity of Iran at less than 10% and that mosque attendance there was minimal despite the fact they have a deeply religious leadership structure.
While that famous Taliban quote of having time has helped them now, eventually it may be their undoing. The internet and technology can be very hard to stop, or who knows maybe they'll stay stuck in the 7th century forever.....
His clock stopped in 2013 though.
Let's not forget that he instigated the world's most successful anti-drug campaign, when he declared poppy cultivation to be un-Islamic.
Piece of **** congressman can go to hell then
Kill as many Jewish Americans as you want I guess?
Also wants an open excuse to have a race/religion war with islamists in general because of the actions of one islamist regime, the Taliban.
was listening to some ex-seal team/marine dude on fox earlier. his solution, drop a jdam (had to google it: Joint Direct Attack Munition, basically a bomb) on the presidential palace where the taliban leadership is - that wouldn't cause a reaction i'm sure.
i dont see any viable solution for the allies still there, or for the afghan people who dont want to live under taliban control; without sending in 50k troops. its a clusterfuck, which was always likely to happen.
the allies should have at least gotten out their own citizens and the afghan allies before pulling the plug.
i'm not sure what the make up of the remaining americans are (civilians, contractors, military, diplomats) but this isnt great:
Well, the military has to approach it as cautiously as a hostage situation. We can't go in guns blazing, innocents would die all the same, maybe even more.
like, is there a solution?
there's already video of people being killed by the taliban, being beaten on the streets, women pleading to get out or they will be married off.
guns blazen wont work. embargoes wont work cos china, russia, iran it seems are open to diplomatic solutions (after the minerals apparently).
the only solution i see, is a rise of the afghan people to overthrown the taliban, but they're all terrified aside from that stronghold in the north.
and then there's the asylum seekers, who you know will be littered with taliban people to get into these countries under the guise of having helped the allies. a mess, some what avoidable me thinks, but still a mess.
