Hopefully this time
got my speedmaster back today from Watchfix. Service and bracelet refinish. Had sourced a new bezel and Crystal that also fitted. Wasnβt sure when was last serviced but Chris said was obviously well looked after as was in great condition inside. Feels like a brand new watch
@ micks_address, Very niceπ
Speaking of crystals, I must get around to sourcing a sapphire to replace to wrecked mineral on my Promaster.
Is watchfix ichrono?
I think might be
Touched up the writing on case back as it had faded slightly
Interesting paint job.
Reminded me of this...
How did you do that mick?
Saw this on fb, I'm somewhere between enthusiast and quasi-luxury.
Firmly in the Enthusiast group.
Got done as part of service by Watchfix
Must have been put together by Ralph Lauren....
That is not the worst of those lists I have seen, sure you could argue a few to move but cant you always. I like it.
Was thinking the exact same thing π . As an aside I'd move Modaine out of the consumer group, just feels a little wrong.
Yeah I thought they and Dior were punching above their weight alright.
Seiko are low quality muck, horrible quality
All those Grand Seiko owners will have to get them sold asap before the ar$e falls out of their value.
They don't care about all their issues with bezel, date misalignments, and poor accuracy. They are moving out of the entry level bracket and charging 1000-1500 for a 6R35 movement, with misaligned this and that.
Or the idiots that pay 3k for another 62mas anniversary edition
Ah Seiko is alright so long as you dont expect too much (Jodi from JOMW expects too much). There would be very few of us in the hobby if it were not for a well timed seiko at some point.
Is it too much to expect a properly aligned watch for 1250 euro, or how much would you need to pay for that.
If itβs any consolation apparently new Rolexβs are prone to misalignment issues as well. You could add another 0
I reckon itβs safe to say the vast majority of watch enthusiasts would disagree with you on that .
I am not here to defend seikos bezel alignment, I dont really care to be honest, For me a seiko is a sub 500 euro watch, and anyone spending more than that need to reassess their choices. A nice Sinn, Longines would be better. I have seen QC faults on very expensive watches I wouldnt see why seiko would be different, they have grand seiko for people that want top tier fit and finish (and the desire to talk about it a lot).
Sticking Seikos on timegraphers is like putting a Fiesta on a dyno
Itβs a lottery but my sla043 runs -1 seconds per day which is pretty good for a fiesta
Ralph Lauren has a minute repeater watch actually π - quite a few of the others in the "luxury" segment don't...
Then again Frederique Constant has a perpetual calendar watch but that doesn't even move them into "entry level" - suffice it to say I would find a Sea-Gull perpetual calendar minute repeater a lot more "luxurious" than a steel Rolex sub (though many wouldn't agree I'm sure) - so the whole tier level should be taken with a large pinch of salt.
It'd be like calling Ford a "budget" brand when they also have the GT40/GT - they are known for cheaper cars yes, but can make some very "luxurious" cars too.
Looking for some guidance please.
I have a Tag Carrera that I'm looking to part exchange for a Panerai - where is the best site or location for this please?
Thanks
The list of watch brands is really just sorting watch brands based on price, the "consumer" and "enthusiast" heading aren't really accurate.
π Ralph Lauren "luxury" me boll.... Though it's interesting how perceptions change over time. Hublot as "high end luxury" and Tiffany as "entry level luxury", or one of the most innovative and successful brands like Seiko lumped in with Vostok. Even how quickly fashions change. Not so long ago Franck Muller would have been in the "high end luxury" category, regularly trotted out on forums and the like as such and now you don't hear about them at all. Richard Mille seems to have taken that slot and added a few zeros to the price tag. Even ten years ago Pateks and Vacheron were rarely seen or talked about on the interwebs and now they're "everywhere". IWC were very much more in play too and seen as a cut above Rolex. Save for their vintage issued military pieces which was very niche Tudor were on very few watch nutter radars, certainly not as a brand new punt. Longines have consistently been seen as also rans in new and vintage circles, though prices have strengthened on their vintage stuff, but even there far less than Omega's output.
There's a big difference between actual consumers and enthusiasts mind you. TAG were always a good example of that. Among normal people they were the "good watch" brand for donkey's years, but always looked at sideways by watch nutters. Hublot is the new TAG in many ways. A modish TAG without the Heuer history and with extra zeros on price tags to appeal to flexers and sniffily hated by watch nutters. Fantastic marketing mind you. They created a "High end luxury" brand from scratch in little more than a decade.
Depends on the Tag.. you might do well listing on adverts and selling - and or the sales thread here or listing on chrono24. Depends really on how desirable the watch is. Watchfinder will offer you a value for the watch and may even have the Panerai you want - prices offered can be hit and miss.
