I would consider myself an honest Gael and this is the position of anyone of the same hue. Even some Dublin supporters. It's nothing personal, it's all about how Dublin have been competing. I won't go all Khabib and say good always defeats evil but I think we all can appreciate the sentiment.
Never asked what you consider yourself. Just suggested that you give your own opinion and not claim to represent others while at the same time assuming only people who agree with you are "honest".
I don't know what you lads were expecting from Dublin. They were obviously going to throw everything at it in a bid to win the game, that's what they do and it's why they're champions. It's nothing great teams of the past wouldn't do either.
I'd be more influenced by what happened after the whistle and the honest gestures of congratulations extended by the players. I noticed a lot of the Dublin players made an effort to find Hennelly too, knowing what he's been through in the past. Nice touch.
It wasn't fair. And the wording now mentions nothing about shoulder. It has to be side to side. Was nothing close to it. Was a red all day long. Was dangerous. The fact that the player was stretched off shows it was dangerous.
The game probably hinged on that hit by small, ironically basquel missing a sitter to kill the game from a result
It gave mayo energy but dublin really killed themelves, two of the last three points dublin have to go long, they messed about with the ball.
Shoulder to shoulder or not challenges like that should be banned. A guy can run 20 yards to make a challenge like that against a static prone player, its dangerous and its only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.
Yeah, it's a brilliant absorbing sport when played at a high competitive level. Doesn't have the cheap scores of hurling. And to give Dublin and Mayo their due they have contributed more than their fair share when they've met. Nearly all their matches have been compelling.
Look, clearly you're hurting. I think maybe having a cup of tea or something to calm yourself? Dublin haven't been competing in line with the ethos of the GAA, all honest Gaels know this, some from Dublin even.
He saw a sitting duck recieving a hospital pass (not called that for nothing) and went to do him. And he achieved that. With a shoulder to the head. I can't see how anyone sees it as 'fair'.
This thread is beyond farce like you wouldn't believe. I'll say that much.
Agree with most of your comments and yes O'Shea is a passenger for Mayo. You can't win AIs with passengers.
That's all well and good but some of the 'tackles' from Dublin players were shocking. Mayo players have to go to work in the morning. The John Small assault was a disgrace. Phily McMahon shamed himself again, I wonder if he repeated some of the stuff he's said to Mayo players previously.
Yep, when the Mayo half backs were dominant in that second half the Dublin half forwards were continuously isolated from each other, think our half back line might have done more, certainty we needed a plan B but.....
Today is a great day. Dubs bate. Mighty stuff. Well done mayo. Thoroughly deserved.
Watched it back again there and am inclined to agree. I don’t think he intended to go for the head, but he went in to wipe him out in the full knowledge that gutless Gaa refs would likely let him away with it if it went wrong if he gave the impression of going for a shoulder
You're taking this personally, you shouldn't be but it's understandable.
No doubt you'll be back at the soccer now, so it won't bother you.
worst display of reffing I have seen in years, Dublin got away with murder
Maybe you'd consider editing that and removing the "personally" word please.
It was bound to happen sometime.
think i will book a hotel somewhere in mayo the night of the final. Is there anywhere else you would want to be if they do it.
Dublin will be back next year and the ladies are in the All Ireland final. Get a good night sleep and you'll feel better in the morning.
Poor form.
The thing about next year is that it wont happen until next year.
there is a lot of enjoyment in this year yet.
That's true and plenty of honest Gaels are enjoying tonight. A lot of damage has been done though unfortunately.
The sad thing for Mayo when they finish celebrating and focus on the final is that Kerry are many people's favourites.
Imagine finally beating the Dubs and still having a huge mountain in front of you.
Dublin were good for football until a year or two ago when they started the playing it around the back to wind down the clock nonsense. Aside from that the alternative was northern teams with 14 men behind the ball. Thankfully Dublin saved us from that. And Mayos win today is also brilliant for football and mayo have been good for football for years.
That’s it. Time to be gracious losers is after the game, not during it. You throw the kitchen sink at it, fairly or unfairly.
That's proper hyperbole.
Football badly needed Dublin to be beaten its been so stale for years.
I tuned into the mayo dublin game and it was 1-10 a 0-03 and figured it was all over so i cant comment.
There is an interesting dynamic here, kerry beat a terrible cork team a long time ago. They have what ive always considered the best footballer in the country and theybhave uncovered another great player but they might come into a final as cold as a mcdonalds.
On the other side is the level of expectation that will grow in mayo, the favorites tag, talk of the curse.
As a neutral i cant wait. Its been a long long time since football was interesting
