Good few of us missed the boat not buying that off you Cyrus, it was a stunner.
Lads (in the generic people and totally not sexist or exclusionary sense 😉)
Are Watchfinder actually trolling us? Their address is interesting to say the least 😂

evening lads,
can someone explain a "sandwich " dial to the uneducated please,
thanks Roy
asked google sorted, thanks
Hiya Roy.
It's a 2 layer dial. The back layer is usually copiously lumed and the top/front layer has the numbers/indices cut out to show the lumed numbers in low relief.
One of the more educated WIS will have a better explanation but basically 2 layers, 1 lumed behind a cutout dial.
Sandwich dial.
Panini
If only I knew at the time that I wanted it 😁
Reminds me of this.
There is something really unique about Panerai. I have owned a few different models in the past (106, 312, 233, 572, 423 and 946) and always own at least one - I generally trade them on to get the desired model I can afford at the time (I am currently looking at a 573). I can only comment on my own experience, but each one I have owned has been very impressive and is the go-to watch as a daily wearer. I have always found the quality to be of the highest order and if accuracy is important to you, the 'worst' performer I had was within 3s/d. Recent models from 2018 can avail of 8 year manufacturers warranty so that is some level of assurance from the manufacturer. The Luminor is the iconic model but to me the Radiomir is the classier and more versatile - especially the 1940 case. As mentioned earlier, stay away from the while dial and personally I would also stay away from the 'Due' collection as the WR is a nonsense for a sportswatch (3bar/30m) even if you never intend going to such depths. Panerai as a company do themselves no favours at times and now again with the movement fiasco. I don't think Panerai are the only company that could be accused of this practice, but my understanding is that this particular journalist has jumped on Panerai at every possible opportunity so there is obviously some bad history between the two. Despite such negative press, if you do your research and pick the model/size/movement that clears your itch to own one, you will not be disappointed. Just my own 2c worth as I see that there are a few on here that are interested in purchasing a Panerai.
Question for ye. Why is the date on dive watches under a magnified lens?
Surely, if I'm several metres below, knowing at a glance that its the 7th rather than the 8th is the least of the important bits of information needed.
Know nothing about diving at all at all (& the same about watches) so maybe I'm just missing a trick here.
Many thanks
My view is that the magnified actually makes it hard see the date, you have to look straight on to see it or the lens distorts it. The reason I think they are there is that mostly dive watches are worn by blind old codgers like me rather than underwater, knowing the date under water is irrelevant to the task. Its kinda a Rolex design feature at this stage
That’s why I much prefer the submariner to the submariner date. It’s a much cleaner look when the cyclops is not ruining the asthetics.
in saying that though , the hulk or any precious metals submariners would look wrong without a date so maybe it’s just a tool watch that doesn’t need a date in my eyes
Have to agree, no date sub for me.
Same here, I don't like the cyclops on the submariner date.
The date is on a wheel smaller than the dial, the physical limit is the font size to get 31 sets of numerals at the outer edge of the wheel. The optic magnifies the date so it appears like a portion of a date wheel from a larger watch.
In general, a dive watch has more use than diving, diving runs about 40 or 50 euros per hour. A keen diver might see 100 dives a year. Wearing it reminds you of the fun you had whilst diving. You probably get asked to sign and date something or fill in a form more times in a year than you dive.
You should not have to choose ;) No Date defo cleaner than the Date, more symmetry. Actually wish they had the no date with the coloured bezels and dials
It's a funny one. The cyclops looks terrible but it's a rolex feature. And a date is pointless on a pure dive watch but really who are you fooling with a sub as a diving tool.
A dive watch is cool, but I wouldn't get too caught up in what it needs to be a pure dive watch.
Video idea for you Fitz —, While you have a sub , hulk and Batman , how about doing a comparison video of the three ?Not too many videos of those three together on you tube and It will help me pick my next watch so I’ll give you a like !!
You could always drop it into the local Seiko Mod Guy. He'd surely be able to do something for ya
Just trying it on.
I'm sure I'm not the only one of us here struck by the strange ailment of considering selling a watch, humming and hawing over it....
And then, wearing the watch considered for sale and asking oneself what the feck was I thinking, cop on and keep wearing that lovely, lovely piece.
Once it crosses my mind to sell a watch its dead to me, its never the same again mentally. I pretend to myself for a while, but in the end it always leaves. My relationship with watchs is not something I feel I should have to work on, the love is there or its not
Indeed, exactly that.
I often find that as I list the specs of a watch to sell, I find myself marvelling at it, struck again by all the reasons I bought it in the first place.
Unless, of course, I am so possessed by lust for something new that I'm blind to the charms of all others :)
Totally get what you mean Fitz but, I find myself very much in LD's camp insofar that unless is actually turned by something new?
I usually put my reservations aside once I put the wavering watch on my wrist or have a play with it.
It has happened me a few times. 2 or 3 times I have posted on adverts and then changed my mind and taken the ad down. I have also sold a few times and then felt regret afterwards as soon as the deal is done. The only silver lining is that I am usually selling to make space and funds for something else, so that is a nice distraction.
I sold my NTH Barracuda about 6 weeks ago and very nearly did a deal on another on a new one!
Yup - that's why the Octo has been hidden away from my arm now - otherwise regret may creep in. Funny that after I listed it on watchexchange too people are recognising the Sólás name and saying "oh so you're behind Sólás!" 😁
Going to put on a 2 figure sum watch - a fun poljot alarm "buzzing bee" watch.
Do image links work here any more?(they do after a fashion Mick, hopefully this works...)
Seiko sla043 arrived today. Bought from tz in the uk. Rolled a very big dice and asked the seller to mark value at 100 pounds. Customs opened and requested import of 37 euro. Paid that and arrived today. Yes I know I’m an idiot. The watch is very nice. The ever brilliant steel is much brighter than the diashield coated spb149 I had before. The sla is nearly 3 times the price. Seller quoted 1 second a day accuracy which would be quite nice. Doesn’t come with bracelet and there’s no obvious offering from seiko. Seems odd for an expensive watch. Very comfy on the rubber included. Have already picked an erikas nato to buy
@micks_address to use image links you need to click the 3rd box in on the right of the text entry box, then slap in your link and repeat for each. That works for tweets, GIFs and most online media and YT videos too. It will autopopulate the link as an image or whatever.
You can upload photos directly via the 2nd box in.
Thanks buddy from the likes of ibb image hosting which link to use? I used to ise bbc full linked urls
Ignore the prancing horse F104 😉👍 I was just experimenting with imgbb uploads and it's a recent 😂
The "viewer" link generated seems to work fine
The bbcode links generate fail codes when inserted.
