Yeah, let's stick with it through this mad, bad period. I hardly ever post in this thread, but read it every day.
I really hope it, and the site, take off again.
Not that I know of,
When you think about it, there was probably only a handful of posters that posted cars for sale so while a lot viewed, not many posted. I know the new platform isn't ideal but I'm going to try and make an effort to post more when I see them and I urge other lurkers to post more too and get Bangernomics thread going again.
Here's my effort.
Cheap tax, plenty of miles on it. Should be able to get it for around the 2k budget. the 1.9 is well able for more miles.
Short on Tax but it looks like it's had some work done to it.
The 1.6 is these is frugal enough and it actually looks decent.
Something for someone needing a bit more space for a buggy.
This is lovely.
Anyone afraid of high mileage please look away.
I know tax is out but I'm posting anyway as it's cheap to tax for the year at 280. If I was stuck, this is where my money would be going.
I've had 3 A4's before, loved them all, tried a 3 Series and constantly spending money on it.
Are Audis of this vintage expensive to maintain? I had a 2003 A4 a few years back and it seemed to be in the garage every 3 months, and expensive work at that. I'll be buying something in the next few weeks and I'd love another Audi, but cheap to maintain is one of my main considerations which is putting me off.
I would think you got a bad one improperly maintained. I say that as I had a 04 one from 120k miles to 210k miles and all I had to replace was a couple of shocks and a calliper really.
my next car will be an A4 again 100%
Nobody's boycotting it. I suspect a lot of people like myself only use the touch site...which is right now, unusable. Boards has treated its userbase with utter contempt for the last few weeks and if people leave ya can't blame them either. Why would anyone even post here, nobody's on the site anymore, boards was taken out the back of the cow shed and shot in the face. It's dead.
Handy Corolla. NCT Mar2022. €1200
A lovely 08 or 09 Laguna is what you need. Much more stylish much classier car than them A4s and cheaper to maintain too.
How about something stylish and praticle,

Inexplicably, he raised the price to €1400 from €700 over the weekend, then dropped it to €1000. It’s for sale 6+ months. €250 would be plenty for it
Ads gone anyway. Unless he sold it or put up another ad.
I hope he sold it to someone who will love it and look after it for a few more years.
There’s a new ad up on Donedeal today, it’s priced at €1k
these sub2k cars bought privately, what are the chances they will last a month? im wondering if they are just problem cars that owners are trying to offload.
you can do a testdrive, but im sure they are able to hide any issues. as in if it takes ages to start the car, the seller could have it already warm before you drive.
some of the private sellers on donedeal seem to have loads of cars for sale, are they to be avoided in faviour of a private selling their actual car.
It really depends on each individual car. Take a mechanic with you if you feel more comfortable. Bought my missus' 2007 bangernomics car of a guy who has at least 10 cars for sale all the time but advertises as a private seller. Gets some really clean older cars. Car stood me €1,150 after getting €100 for her old one from the scrappie. Replaced front disks & brake pads. Had 10 months test on it so figured if we got the 10 months out of it we'd be doing OK. 20 months later & it's still going perfectly.
T.
Thanks TigerTim for that. ill have my emphasis on the test of the actual car.
Drove an 08 Laguna, admittedly had high miles. God awful yoke to drive, didn't feel nice at all.
Small bit of damage but if you can look past that, it's cheap and relatively low miles.
Taxed and tested.
You'll get a 2011/12 Fluence for that kind of money
Bought my 2003 Corolla after a regular poster here put it in the thread. I've had it 5 years now and it just passed another NCT. Got it for 600 quid. There are good deals to be had out there, just keep your eyes and ears open when you go to see any car at this level
Bought a 98 civic in 2012 for €1250. 9 years later and only 1 NCT fail for brake line. Car owes me nothing. You just can't beat simple Japanese cars from that era.
2004 bmw 316

I've since amended its tax status, good untill the end of October

Pity about the state of the paint, because otherwise this looks a dinger. 3 door, 1.3, low miles and fresh test for €1500. They won’t be this cheap for long
1500 for a manky bog spec 24 year old starlet with rubbish paint and high mileage? (130k is not low miles)
people have lost their minds
Always wondered what people see in those type of cars that were pretty bog standard back then and their driving dynamics really don't make up for the lack of safety and creature comforts of newer cars IMO.
Having said that, paint seems surface only and with no rust. The mileage isn't extremely low, it still works out at less than 5k miles per year which is warrants being put in the ad.
They’ll never be as cheap again
