They're just standards...nothing extraordinarily high about them.
Anyway, I just felt she let hersef down in the way she did not at all show acknowledgement to her horse. And I don't buy excuses.
Woudn't hang her for it. Just an observation I had.
I thought Shane Sweetnam and his horse gave an absolutely cringeworthy perfomance in the team showjumping yesterday, a contender for the worst Irish showing in the entire Games. In being eliiminated he cost the Irish team the chance of a place in the final. A bad day in Tokyo for Irish on horses.
I’d feel you’re in a very very small(possibly limited to 1) minority that would think that after watching her performance.
Eh, his horse lost a shoe!!
A completely freak, random occurrence.
Ferreira definitely favourite in my eyes. Looking at her record, it's impressive - 7 defeats in 80, one a wo and 2 to Potkonen very early on whom she's beaten several times since, including sf here. Kellie is 0-4 v Potkonen. In the last 2 years Ferreira has won all her fights either UD or rsc.
She reminds me a bit in style of Estelle Mossely, but a far more polished and accurate Mossely. Not to say Kellie doesn't have a decent chance, just think she'll have to fight the fight of her life and be tactically very astute. I think she'll get the fight she wants anyway, on the counter, so she'll have that in her favour. She's an amazing athlete and person, just keeping fingers crossed for her.
Kellie's feet/distance will be her best weapon to befuddle the Brazilian, but she needs to land as well as make the Brazilian miss and fall in.
Great clash of styles. In and out, feints, body and head....needs to make Brazilian pay for her mistakes....
I just hope Kellie isn't over-powered here....hence why feet and movement are essential. Never let the Brazilian set. Pop her, move, pop her, move...in and out and busy on offense all night
Lively finish to the Men's |Modern Pentathlon earlier
Elgendy (the Egyptian athlete) stormed up from 13th to 2nd in the Run/Shoot, almost taking Gold.
One of the best races I've watched at this Olympics
Didn’t realize that GB won men’s pentathlon. That’s some double!!!
I think it's definitely to Kellies advantage they haven't met before as, for all her undoubted power and class, I don't think Ferreira is particularly complicated while Kellie can keep switching it up, keep her guessing continually and hopefully missing and exposed on the counter. Definitely good to have the contrasting styles unlike Kellies opening bouts. Makes for an intriguing and likely good quality final.
What has watching her performance got to do with her not even acknowledging the horse at the end of it? Not showing an ounce of appreciation, less than favourable performance or not. It looked poor form to me. Nobody is saying she should have been hugging and kissing the horse, but some acknowledgment for the animal.
Welcome to the forum NJ Dofty. Looking forward to many more quality contributions.
I watched the Ferreira - Potkonen fight and I think the Brazilian is beatable. Yes, she's as tough as boots and packs a mean punch but Kellie looks more skilful and has the better footwork. I'd be amazed if Ferreira wins this on a unanimous decision.
Funnily, I think Kellie would have much preferred Ferreira over Potkonen given their history, so I think she'll be happy enough to give this final a go.
You shouldn't be amazed if either wins on a unanimous. Sometime judges all agree, even if the fight very close/tight.
In any event, I still think most of the focus is on Ferreira because she's the reigning world champion, but she's never actually met Harrington. It might well suit Kellie to hear all the talk of Ferreira being the favourite and she being the 'underdog'.
Men's lightweight final straight after the Kellie fight should be a good one too. Billy Walsh's team looking for gold with Keyshawn Davis but I'm honestly not sure how he can beat Andy Cruz. Think that's another gold in the bag for the Cubans tbh.
Thanks for remonder here. Cruz is quality, but so is Davis.
Cian O'Connor was unlucky not to make the jumpoff in showjumping and all three individual jumpers made their final, so while the team event was disappointing, their overall performance was reasonable.
The track cyclists on the other hand have been way off the pace throughout - I don't generally try to be overly critical as a lot of our competitors put a lot in for limited return, but we have to be honest when parts of our team don't perform - and the track cycling team have had a disaster from start to, well, almost finish, there's one more event overnight tonight.
For me they've been a throwback to the bad old days when we sent competitors across almost all events just to make up the numbers. Thankfully we have mostly moved on from that, but the track cycling team have been very poor and it's better to be honest about that.
The other poster comparing them to the swimming and rowing teams is way off, the rowers have been reasonably competitive for years going back to Sean Drea and the fours in Atlanta and are now finally getting their rewards. The swimming team had a great meet, loads of PBs and a final for McSharry and we had a number of top 10s in athletics - Boyce, Barr and the mixed relay team. None of those examples are remotely comparable to the performance of the track cyclists.
Cruz is phenomenal but I did see Davis take out the French No.1 seed last week which was seriously impressive. You don't see that very often at this level. I'll just be shouting on the gold medal for Billy.
Natalya will send the horse a thank you card and apology note no doubt.
Who's Natalya Doyle?
The men were on the same horses. I'd like to see how they went. Will the olympics be posted up anywhere in the future?
In fairness unlucky with losing a shoe and I say it is as bad if not more difficult for a horse to compete without a shoe then a human. Due to that it will go down as it should as unfortunate thing then cringe
Who knows maybe she did afterwards. She was disappointed straight away after
You can check the men's horses on below link. Neither Constantin nor Saint Boy, the horse ridden by the German rider, were on the list. Assume they were removed following yesterday's events.

Like those bent AIBA judges 5 years ago!
???
My attempt at a joke!!!
I'm reading that the German federation is proposing changes to the show jumping section in future - perhaps allowing the athletes 24 hours to get to know the horse and other changes.
Yesterday was very bad publicity for the sport (particularly in relation to animal welfare) and they may well be forced to shake things up for Paris.
Jesus! You are some moralising yoke. Most of us cannot do the stiff upper lip crap. We are humans not robots.
The German coach was thrown out and told to go home as he struck the horse. Rightfully so
