Ok brilliant this makes sense now :) What sites would you recommend in Germany ?
On a side note if i ordered pre built from Pcspecialist.ie as there based in the Uk i take it i would be liable for Added vat once delivered ? Is there anywhere i could buy pre built in ireland ?
Ive checked PCspecialist and its seems as they have a Ireland domain no excess fees are charged which is brilliant news . I did plan on building myself but with everything the way it is i might just go the pre built route for less stress
They are probably registered for VAT in Ireland
I'd love to know where all these reasonable price cards on Amazon are, everything I look at still seems to be at least double RRP. (athough I'm looking more for 3070 range)
I checked again last night and there were x3 available, so managed to reorder. The other two remained available for hours, so it's not as bad as it used to be (at that end of the product range anyway).
EDIT - that's direct from Amazon.de, not a marketplace seller. The marketplace sellers list scalper prices.
Was that the Gigabyte Vision they had for €1600 ?
Aye, GigaByte RTX 3080Ti Vision OC. There's one showing as being in stock right now, at €1600.
Would love one of those (for my white build), and considering other 3080TI prices it's definitely not bad... but the overall 3080TI prices atm is scary, they seem to be going up and not down as expected
I somewhat regret cancelling a Zotac 3080TI for €1430 or never having grabbed an iChill 3080TI for €1499 when I had the chance
It's mad how in July 2021, €1600 seems like a good price for a high end gpu....we all have a sickness. Still though, compared to the €2k+ scalpers were asking for 3080's earlier in the year, dropping €1600 direct to Amazon sits a lot better with me.
Nah, 1600 is stupid money to spend on a graphics card, your just getting normalised to the price.
Would you not be as well buying the 3090 from Scan? Should be around €1,700 after Irish Vat and handling charges.
Edit: you'll have to ring them to ship it ex vat.
It's €100 over rrp, I can live with that. Yes it's bananas how €600/€700 used to get you a high end gpu, but such is the way of the world, those days are long gone.
Scan will not ship it to Ireland. At all.
Yes they will because a friend got a 3080 FE off them in June.
K.O. Kiki got a FE GPU off them a few weeks ago as well.
Snatching a 3080ti for 300/400 over msrp isn't exactly a bargain though seeing as the msrp for the card is vastly inflated already. Your buying something ever so slightly better than a 3080 with an extra 2GB of vram which ends up being about five percent faster than the 3080.
So when you pay we'll say 1500 for a 3080ti, you didn't just pay 300 quid over msrp, you paid 800/900 quid over msrp
Yes there are exceptions, but not to the common mortal :)
You can see this from another angle. It's 300 eur over MSRP while the 3080 is currently what, 600 eur over MSRP?
The 3080TI is selling for only 20-25% more than the 3080 while its MSRP is 50% higher. From an economics pov, better to buy a 3080TI right now than a 3080.
If you ring them they will ship stock to Ireland.
Question for anyone in the know, buddy grabbed a 3070 from Scan in the UK and doesn't need it so is offering it to me. Will I get hit with double VAT now if it gets sent via courier from the UK?
Are you sure, meaning, have you tried it yourself? I am sceptic because a) I asked them recently and they said no and b) I doubt anyone rings them during a drop and is fast enough to reserve one before they go OOS.
The cheapest readily available choices right now are 3080 for 1200 EUR or 3080 Ti for 1500. 25% more money for 10% more performance (4K, see techpowerup https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ti-founders-edition/28.html). When I made my choice, 3080's were more like 1300 so it was a pretty easy decision to go with 3080 Ti.
If 3080 could be got near MSRP, it would be a no-brainer value-wise. But that choice doesn't exist in our Covid-based reality.

Fair enough, I never look at 4k data as I'm 1440p so you have me there but it's up to individuals to spend as much as they want on what they want I spose, I'm just not one of those individuals.
So Amazon.de seem to have quite a few nvidia cards in the 3070 range available tonight, right now I see :
3 x gigabyte cards @ €1330 each ( 🤣),
18 x ASUS TUF cards @ €1149 each
9 x MSI cards (3070ti) €980 each
5 x Gigabyte AORUS cards @ €1190 each
and 3 x EVGA RTX XC3 Ultra Gaming cards @ €1178 each.
All these are only available via 3rd party sellers.
The MSI 3070ti would seem to be the best deal here considering its the cheapest with a slight edge over the other non TIs, but this one doesn't ship to Ireland. Anyway, it's only a good deal relative to the obvious gouging going on with the overall prices...
Jaysus those are terrible prices. And probably all LHR?
Got a Palit 3080 from Dodax today, €1055 shipped. First time ordering from there, let's see how it goes.
Tbh I couldn't care less about LHR, just want a decent GPU to keep for at least a few years for 1440p gaming and general use.
Although I'd only choose a 3070ti over 3070 if prices are the same, from the gaming tests I was reading about from several different sources, the FPS gain of ti over non-ti across most games was negligible. In fact probably better to just get a 3080 if I wanted a significant boost over 3070.
My current rig is ancient at this point, (built it in 2012 via mainly advice from these forums and buying parts from the late hardwareversand in Germany).
Had to replace the PSU which died last month though with a corsair TX750M semi-modular unit.
Don't really want to wait another year to see if graphic card market (possibly) goes back to normal pricing though, I never upgraded my ancient gtx 6070 in all this time and want to try out more recent gaming offerings at 1440p
How did you manage that? Are they VAT registered here?
They normally have terrible GPU prices, but they seem to occasionally reduce the price of some units to a pallatable amount, so I keep an eye on the site and on geizhals.eu ( https://geizhals.eu/?fs=3080&hloc=at&hloc=de&hloc=eu&hloc=pl&hloc=uk&cat=gra16_512&sort=p )
I bought from dodax.de so no VAT issues, but even on dodax.co.uk , they state most items are shipped by "Dodax EU"
Wow, that's an amazing price these days. That same card is 2260 on Dodax now! I bet it was a pricing error.
Ah wait - my mistake. It's a different Palit 3080. Your is actually still available.
Yup was OOS this morning but it's back at that price: https://www.dodax.de/de-de/elektronik-computer/grafikkarten/palit-ned3080s19ia-132aa-grafikkarte-nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-10-gb-gddr6x-dpOUCDVEN0IJ4/
arlt.com had the TUF 3080 for €1120 shipped yesterday for a couple hours too - potentially an even better deal. It's back to €1300+ now
Last but not least, jacob.de seem to regularly have stock of the 3080 Gainward Phoenix for €1150 (plus shipping)
(Disclaimer: I never bought from any of these shops, unsure how good they are, if they ship fast, if customer service is decent, etc. I just know they're legit shops, not scams)
