The language you use is the same, yet yours slightly more 'nuanced'. You're both two sides of the same coin claiming a massive difference.
I was specifically asked on this thread if I could provide a recent example of republican sectarianism.
if I had not responded I would be told I was ignoring the question so I responded with a sectarian attack on my neighbour that very day.
don’t shoot the messenger
You've been asked a lot of things in this thread and generally ignore them.
Can you tell us specifically what is wrong with the NIP?
Can you tell us specifically what you think it should be changed to?
Has the Olympic team for the UK calling itself Great Britain been mentioned here. I presume that pisses of many in the North. 20 out of the 27 athletes from the North are choosing to represent Ireland. Presumably a lot of these athletes are from unionists backgrounds but see more connected to a team called Ireland rather than Great Britain.
My point exactly; You've been asked more specific points and ducked and dived around them. Thankfully for you other irrelevant avenues like identity and windows presented an out.
Take the two excellent posts by Peregrinus & KildareP on page 41 for a start.
You are naive to think that sectarianism disappears that easy.
Remember the Kingsmill bread councillor. Outrageous display of sectarianism, yet he was quietly welcomed back and promoted within SF a year later.
Endless petty checks on the Irish Sea
stop the petty checks on the Irish Sea
So you are fine with the 'border' being in the Irish Sea then.
Good stuff.
We in the EU are implementing the easements and flexibilities to make the border as seamless as it can while still protecting our single market. Sadly those who supported Brexit or who had it foisted upon them cannot expect things to be exactly the same as they were.
As a matter of interest, was this man ever a member of the UDR or any of the other loyalist paramilitary organisations?
Just a naive lack of understanding.
the official name of the team is “Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic Team”.
but if it was to have a title that encompassed all its athletes then it would need to be known as “the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the UK Overseas Territories”
a bit of a mouthful. Team GB is a great shortens version which works for me.
now maybe the Ireland team could be more accurately called the “Ireland and Northern Ireland Olympic team”
Or to use the full name of the island that encompasses both of those places....Ireland.
The recognition of which (that it is an island called Ireland) is why we have the Protocol.
Absolutely not. He was the local Ulsterbus inspector. Never in any illegal or even legal military group. He is a real gentleman respected by most of his catholic neighbours. He is a member of the wee local orange lodge but then nearly every local Protestant of that generation is. He and all his family are squeaky clean. It’s people who don’t want a prod about the place
its like team 33 again. You want to be treated differently to everyone else. Everyone else enters countries, but ah sure we’ll just enter an island 😂
He could have been a part-time UDR member as well as being the local Ulsterbus inspector! I just don't get why he is being singled out, particularly when he gets on well with most his catholic neighbours despite him being a member of the Orange Order. It sounds more like a personal grudge thing than anything else. Breaking windows is rather minor because if they really wanted him out and they were serious about it, it would be a bomb or the place would be burnt down.
Or how about Team UK?
The country is 'Ireland' downcow...recognised the world over. As per the thread topic it is recognised as an island so intertwined that it cannot be treated as two separate entities - hence the Protocol.
....how many of the competitors for Team Ireland don't have Irish citizenship, Downcow?
I'm quite content for Ireland to be represented by citizens of Ireland regardless of where they live.
But why not shorten it to the UK instead of Great Britain which would be more inclusive to the north. Seems to be a cock up there. Anything on TV or looking at the medals table it is just Great Britain. Having the name shortened to the UK from an official name of the UK and overseas territories would have been more thoughtful for the 1.8 million people that live in the North.
It's clear NI wasn't an important enough consideration.
What checks are petty?
Why are they endless?
By your own explanation of what team Great Britain is representing. It is not representing one country.
The place was both bombed and burnt to the ground. They put every single Protestant out of the town. He is the last one left. He was not in the udr. He was a bus inspector and his wife ran a shop.
it’s not unusual. Every single Protestant home and Buisness in Castlewellan has been attacked. Every place Protestants meet has been attacked. The Presbyterian church hall was burnt to the ground, the primary school was burnt They all have their windows protected. The orange hall has steel plate on the windows.
hi neighbour was the Protestant undertaker. Also bombed several times and finally burnt to the ground.
the nearest Protestants to him live in a little 20 house Protestant street 100m out of town. They have had no warning car bombs etc.
this is the stuff francie calls ‘broken windows’
Because it is not team Uk. We are all British which seems good to me. Team Uk would be ok but I wouldn’t want it to alienate falklands etc
I honestly don’t know but I’d be quite sure some of the northern competitors are British
I thought some here were implying the team was attempting to represent the six counties that are not in the country of Ireland. But I am cool with that if we are all agreed they are representing only the country of Ireland.
sky has wound lots up up here as they have blocked the highlights from any outside countries like Ireland 😂
Ireland is one country that was partitioned by the threat of unionist terrorism and British war. the UK currently has jurisdiction of the northeast of our country but that will come to an end sooner or later.
What highlights are blocked?
RTÉ's almost 24 hour coverage and Eurosport do us just grand. I think you'll find the issues with coverage you are experiencing are solely a BBC issue on these islands. Good thing you have access to RTÉ anyway. You shouldn't miss a thing.
You are trying to present part of the story of the conflict/war as victimising of one community...the protestant one. Your penchant for 'victimhood' laid bare again.
This kind of thing was happening all over the north. 1000's fled south to get away from loyalist pogroms, children were burned in their beds etc.
A 'broken window' is not the same thing as organisations that are constitutionally sectarian, is what I said before you continue the lying.
Like the rugby team they represent the country of Ireland downcow. Recognised by every sporting body in the world as a country.
