Does anyone know if the multi quote system is coming back or what the story is? Also same with the most thanked posts feature, it is still showing nothing for me on the desktop version

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,368 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

You can multiquote but it doesn't work the same way as before. if you click the quote button it brings you down to the comment box. to quote somebody else you have to go there comment and click Quote again. that brings you back to the comment box with both comments quoted.

Any way to mark individual forums read?

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/boardsie-enhancement-suite/

    Chrome/Edge/Opera: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/boardsie-enhancement-suit/bbgnmnfagihoohjkofdnofcfmkpdmmce

Is it necessary to close your entire Boards account in order to delete all PMs? As I mentioned before in another post (somewhere!) I am very concerned about the personal information that I gave in response to Talk To requests from Boards registered forums. If I ever re-register, I will NEVER use that facility again!

Is it correct that I must apply by email to close my account and anonymise my data? What email do I use to contact Boards? Thanks for any help with this.

Ironically, Use the PM service to message >@boards.ie: GDPR< (Remove the angle brackets) and request account closure.

I am quite uncomfortable with the idea of not being able to delete any pms, the "leave conversation" doesn't cover it properly. I wish we had known this before the transition, I would've deleted all data prior. What interest does americanada.vanilla (lets face it, its not just a canada owned corporation) have in storing increasingly endless pms, other than to potentially harvest data, I wonder ?

It feels as if our private info and PMs are too exposed (almost on display/easily shared) while the forums themselves are hidden - really, shouldn't it be the other way around? This feels more commercial than community oriented - has become very unboards-like.

And if you are multi-quoting make sure to press Enter after each quote otherwise you can't get the cursor between them to type anything (or I'm missing some trick to do it).

I had long since deleted all my PMs or so I thought. Ones I thought I'd deleted from years ago were back from the dead

Exactly this - I would have deleted all of my PMs in advance if I'd known/been made aware of this prior to the data transfer. For those intending to use the Talk To forums in future, this 'hole' in privacy and the at risk data possibility is a big issue. Given the email debacle, I feel even more insecure here as the days go on.

yeah thats kinda the problem Ive been having, too much scrolling across two or maybe three different pages of posts just to multi quote. Tried it earlier today and just gave up such was the hassle compared to the old system so I didnt post at all in the end.Its a really rubbish system and hard to believe basic functionality like multi quoting still hasnt been sorted out.

Deleting them would have been pointless. I had deleted mine long before the changeover, only for them to come back. I'm a bit of a housekeeping fiend so I know for definite they were all gone. Ones from years ago came back.

That is very worrying alright. It seems the only way forward is closing the account, but who knows where the data will be after this and who can have access to it in the future? I can't even begin to imagine how stressful this must be for people who disclosed a lot of information on forums like PI or Legal Issues. The fear of cross-referencing must be huge.

Zombie PMs show that the previous delete function was merely optics.

I will genuinely never use a Talk To forum ever again

That ^ is interesting Tork... When I first opened up pms on the new site, I was stunned to see a number tally (vanilla had listed) between me and another poster, even though I had deleted most of those ones before, as they went along (to keep my old inbox open). Why would adding up numbers of old deleted pms between members be of any consequence to vanilla or boards? Its just all very suspect.

@Mickeroo Could you add "The bleedin'" to the start of the title of your sticky? Cheers.

They'll all walk after this I'd imagine so you'll never be tempted.

I ca only see "mark all read" which does exactly that, not the individual forum.

I can't remember where I posted this before but if you look at your 'conversations' many are one sided.

So, if retro and I had pmed on old Boards, and she deleted the pms but I didn't, I would see all my messages are if I'd been talking to myself.

If I had deleted mine retro would see her messages but not mine.

Others are seeing zombie messages resurfacing though, so they're all obviously somewhere in the matrix.

That’s just great. PMs that I definitely deleted are all back in my inbox. Including ones to Talk to forum with my personal details.

I want to close my account now ASAP but I also want to know wtf can be done about all this. This 🍓 is not feeling sweet today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,039 ✭✭✭✭retro:electro

Dear lord. I’ve just been through my PM’s. There are definitely some that I had nuked into oblivion and beyond literally years ago that have now come back to haunt me.

    Need a wine asap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,945 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Are these PM's visible to other people?

    Who knows!

They are on the other side of the Atlantic now but even when you thought they were this side and deleted, they really weren’t.

Sorry I'm sure this has been answered a million times but I'm really struggling with new boards but where do I go to see "my threads" on mobile. I can't see the threads I follow/post in anymore on mobile site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,743 ✭✭✭✭Leg End Reject

Click on your avatar and then on the star in the middle of the drop down menu.

They didn't carry over from the old site so you need to manually follow them again by clicking the star at the top right of each thread. Posting in a thread doesn't automatically subscribe you anymore.

Just say Boards closes down as a result of this (likely probably). What happens to all our data? Who owns it? Can it be hacked or sold?

Who here trusts the current owners? Sure, why wouldn’t they sell the data to cover losses??

I’m pretty sure the data I have given this site can NEVER be deleted.

So you can add people to old PM conversations that you previously had deleted?? Seriously!! This needs to be dealt with pretty soon. I mean for the most part I trust anyone who I’d regularly PM but there are others who.. not so much!

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
