Then I won't be talking to them again simple
Hey DC I apologise for the delay in replying.
The colleague's I refer to rightly see the Belfast newsletter as pandering to those of a sectarian outlook. It's not against those who are unionist, Protestant or loyalist but against those who encourage divisions with articles about the Irish language being dangerous or the Irish protocol, a legal document negotiated and signed by the British PM being the fault of the Irish. You say that the statement was directed at the readership of the paper and not the paper itself, but the readers are reading a sectarian paper. So I stand by my statement that anyone who buys into sectarianism has very little mental capacity.
Well this just straight up isn't representative of the average Omagh person. It sticks in my craw to defend the people of Tyrone, but most English people are perfectly finely received in Tyrone. This sort of nonsense is part of the problem, not the solution.
The attitude displayed by the likes of Dazler makes me ashamed of being Irish. It is not as rare as you suggest.
No his family are quite accepted to the English up there sure his family got bombed by IRA
No it doesn't, you've displayed your shame long before Dazler came along.
I'll take my experience growing up there and knowing more people who still live there than you've ever met over your anecdotal judgement for what I perceive as the rarity of those attitudes thanks very much, Blanch.
Being ashamed of being Irish is your own cross to bear, but I'm glad to see you finally verbalise it. Can you tell me which group is totally free of imbeciles to the point you wouldn't feel ashamed if you were part of that group?
Good stuff. Agree with almost all
Could you clarify ‘raised’. Is that until they are 18?
That is just simply nonsense
I’d hazard a guess it’s mainly southerners who are at it in this thread
Please explain
It’s ironic that you refer to me as thick for claiming my Britishness which has been guaranteed to me for as long as the people of OWC want it that way thanks to gfa
You should come up to Belfast to watch how they share it by burning union flags and chanting Ira at concerts
No it isn't.
Are you saying a new born can 'choose' their identity? Not even you could spin that to be true.
Therefore your identity is chosen for you until you are of an age to agree with it or switch.
Haha. I am not sure that’s even worth a response. Do you want a pic of my British passport.
I'm sure there was some nice inclusive chanting at this a fortnight ago.
While I'll happily defend your British identity, you couldn't possibly think that it wasn't down to your parents decision, Downcow?! Like fundamentally there isn't going to be anything inherently biologically different between you and I, barring the decisions our parents made.
It sounds like you have some very sectarian colleagues who would like to suppress free speech
I thought we has already established that you agreed the Newsletter comment wasn't actually sectarian?
I don't have a clue what you're trying to say here, Dazler.....could you try again?
Oh I’m fine with that but to suggest it is only our parents that choose our identity is nonsense.
Oh I agree lumpkin. There is stuff happens at st paddy’s day, the 11th night, GAA gatherings, etc, etc which is unsavoury, sectarian and embarrassing.
I could post a republican bonfire on here with much worse stuff on it or union flags being burnt by nationalists, etc but what’s the point
While there are exceptions (as far as I've heard, Jamie Bryson's parents are fairly middle of the road UUP type Unionists), generally the seeds of identity and belonging are planted fairly early in life. I'm sure it's why despite being of planter stock on my parental grandfather's side I identify as entirely Irish, and why despite being of Donegal stock, you identify as entirely British. While our parents may not entirely decide things, they're probably the most significant factor there.
Go on, back up your posts with a link there
I take it we're done with discussing the protocol then?
I rather not be in the North on St. Patrick's day but both Catholics and Prodesents in the South celebrate him at church..... presumed it was the same in the North and I am sure it is by alot of educated Catholics and Prodesents. But not suprised by the apartheid culture in the North that stops people celebrating the patron Saint of the Irish as of course they're not Irish......
here you go. Any other requests

Oh yes lots of both traditions celebrate him. There is a republican fringe who turn it into a hate fest
1, Have you ever heard of a piece of paper called a 'birth cert' downcow?
2 Have you ever heard tell of a new born baby filling one out themselves?
