Bit boring, but to mention unhealthy, for an athlete, no?
Should all the runners stay at home watching the telly?
Yeah scratch what i wrote above. A clear round guarantees it I'm sure, brain just went for a sec!
19 clear out of 44, I'd say those that went clear and got a time penalty will be on a sweat. Bruce Springsteens daughter up next.
Yeah riders with clear rounds are ordered my times, could be a tight squeeze for him.
Runners have a choice the horse doesn't. No horse asked to be in the Olympics
30 and ties go through, position will determine the order of the final. O'Connor will be one of first out, only 0.34 of a second inside time limit.
It's not really for this thread.
Great result from Harrington hope she can go all the way🙏
Apologies for spreading confusion above. I was totally wrong. I just panicked a bit because I'd placed a little bet on Cian to win gold yesterday and thought for a sec my dosh might be going for a burton! He's fine anyway so panic averted!
Great news re the show jumping. In all the excitement I promised a 13 year old that I’d go horse riding with her if we win a medal tomorrow. Haven’t been on a horse in 20 years 😳
Is Aidan Walsh on crutches??
Eta - fractured 😳
Would be crazy if she did. It would only be the second time we ever won 2 gold's in a single Olympics.
We did win 3 in 96 but well you know
Yikes 😀 still a long shot, final will be very competitive.
She seems in a good place mentally. Didn't seem nervous or phased in the slightest, rather very confident in fact.....a good sign.
Does any pet ask to be where they are. Hope you don't own any if that's your thinking
I don't actually but most people don't jump up and down on their cats back and whip it with a stick for the gratification of the watching crowd
Exactly 30 make the final, 25 clear and 5 with time faults so not a fence down between all the finalists.
Expect a much tougher course tomorrow.
O’Connor should be 6th off as slowest clear.
Others will be near the end, Allen 25th and Kenny 2nd last.
Yeah but less of this rhetoric that she likes winning to raise the spirits of 'people back home'. McIlroy & Lowry were spouting much the same.
Good for them if they win a medal one way or another but I don't think the general public here really care that much.
Done well to have the 3 riders there. At a glance I think only us, GB, Japan and Belgium have managed that. The Americans have none which will be a big disappointment for them as Farrington was among the favourites. The Swiss Guerdat was another major casualty. So competitive but great to be in their fighting for medals anyway.
In his 2 previous Olympic appearances in Athens and London O`Connor was presented with medals although as we all know he had to give 1 of them back. Can he maintain that record this time around?
He's very much the outsider of our 3 anyway, as reflected by the current world rankings, but I'd definitely never write him off. No more determined rider out there anyway I'd say. I'd love to see Allen doing well too after the big disappointment of 2016.
I agree as i was talking to mates which would be into there sports and all and nope could not be bothered with whats going on in the Olympics even the football.
I don't think anyone really cares about the football. Even most diehard fans would rather watch the running or something.
Personally I like the boxing though but for me it's one of those once every 4 (5) years sports
Was watching some boxing earlier on BBC.
Even IF Walsh wasn't hurt, I don't think he'd have beaten McCormack (might have been tight), but he wouldn't have come within an asses roar of a gold, they Cuban guy Was class in the final, and schooled McCormack who performed very well in fairness.
Ya but at least he wouldn't spend the next 20 years as the butt of jokes or an embarrassing table quiz question
But McCormack had been the bookies favourite to win the gold medal. You'd have to wonder if Walsh could have taken him in the semi final : he was clearly rapidly improving and might have fancied his chances (would obviously have lost to the Cuban).
Walsh lost three times to McCormack, but competitive fights. Yes, McCormack favorite, but Walsh would have been a live underdog.
Personally Walsh didn’t really impress me. Too much posing and not engaging. Was actually warned in round 3 of his QF for not engaging.
Delighted with a medal, but was quite a soft one all things considered. Two quite average opponents he beat..
Still think with his style and awkwardness, he could have had a decent chance had he fought in the semis.
Ah I think the general public do enjoy when we win medals. Maybe not the crazy excitement that comes with the county winning an All-Ireland but it’s definitely viewed very positively.
And then for her local community, boxing club, family etc it will be a huge huge thing.
A lot of that has to do with the time difference.
In diving, Tanya Watson has qualified for tomorrow’s 10m platform semi finals. It’s great to see Irish athletes competing in such a variety of disciplines.
