Not sure how qualifying works for all the different events but would they have an advantage over us by not being in Europe similar to how their soccer WC qualifying is pi$$ easy until the final round
You'd think RTE would show a sport where we have 3 contenders rather than the 110m hurdles semis 🙄
Bertrand Allen goes clear also.
How many go through to final?
Showing Darragh now.
Do times/faults from the qualifying carry forward to the final?
30 I believe.
No it's a clean slate, will be used for order of jumping though.
Not sure if there's a tv rights issue when it comes to the equestrian? Lot of chatter in Britain about the BBC not showing the eventing or dressage live but they didn't have the rights to do so, think Discovery own the broadcast rights. Hopefully that doesn't apply to the jumping, though.
That might explain it alright - seemed bizarre for RTE to completely ignore an event with 3 competitors, in which we're expected to do well, for some random track events.
They have hardly completely ignored it, they just showed the 2 clears.
I'd have expected them to show the whole event live, or at the very least to cut to the Irish jumpers.... be interesting to see if they cut to Cian O'Connor who's up soon - going by how the presenter phrased it, it doesn't sound like they will.
We're joint top of the leaderboard at the moment, if that was swimmers or runners they'd be cancelling the rest of the day!!
It's only qualifying and scores aren't carried, just need a top 30.
I'm not sure tbh but it is possible. The BBC definitely have an issue with live broadcasts but rte may have a different arrangement. Be crazy if they didn't have the final live at a minimum, can't imagine that happening. IOC shouldn't be selling off the games like this anyway, everything should be free to air. It's a travesty of its own charter imo.
O'Connor clear also, all 3 into tomorrow's final.
7 clear of first 25. 73 entries.
Great stuff form the showjumpers. Three in the final gives us a sniff of a chance and bides well.for the team event also. Maybe Week 2 could surprise us yet.
Is the team event decided tomorrow as well? Whats the rules there? Best 3 combined?
I see its completely seperate and later in the week
No best 3 anymore, it's all 3!
Separate competition again.
All going well horses will have to jump 4 times in 5 days.
Great day for the equestrian
Not so great if you are the horse
Those showjumpers sound so quietly, but reassuringly, confident!
I think you have to be ballsy to be in that game, it's not for the faint hearted. Cian O'Connor maybe not everyone's cup of tea but the guy never gives up, he's relentless.
The horse love it....
Do you think they'd be better off eating grass in a field???
That's what they're bred and trained all their lives for!
There's far worse things done to animals then training them to jump over fences, but whatever you want to get hung up on
Not sure if Cian O'Connor is sweating a bit here. He's around 17th or 18th in standings with well over 30 yet to jump. Fancy him to be ok but it doesn't look nailed on yet.
Yes definitely better off being normal horses
He's joint 1st with a clear round though - do they resort to times if more than 30 go clear? (I'm guessing that's unlikely though!)
