Do you think that the government should ensure that the laws and rules of the country are enforced? (And again you have avoided this.)
Do you believe that there are people playing the system?
And, In my opinion, you are very judgmental of people who you don’t even know.
I said I quite my original post. You keep miss quoting it. The original post was in relation to posters blaming the government for the existence of soup kitchens.
What I said was people make choices with there money. As I posted earlier poverty has more to do with addiction than with lack of money
Ingorance is not looking at the reality of why something exists. Then attributing all the blame for it on government or the system but absolving the individual of any responsibility for the situation they are in
You can take a horse to water you cannot make them drink. If you ever dealt with an addict, whether it's cigarettes, drugs, gambling or alcohol you would know until someone is willing to admit they need help you cannot help them.
The only way of achieving you aims if rights is to remove the right to freedom. An addict will spend there money on there addiction first before anything else.
Do we remove children from those that have an addiction or incapable of rearing them??
Should the state supply them with food clothes and accommodation rather than any form of cash?
Should the state take all forms of cash or goods they can barter off them?
In answer to your questions. Yes children should be removed from parents where it is proven that they are incapable of caring or rearing them. This I believe does happen in some cases already.
They should get what they are entitled too and they can spend it anyway they want as with anyone else in the state that are entitled to payments. Should the state cloth them, for me no that is every adults responsibility to do that. See answer to the question above where kids are involved.
In answer your last question it is the same as the one above, no the state shouldn't.
What the state should do is be there when those addicts are ready to admit they need help. As you say in your post you can't help people with addictions till they are ready and that is when the state should be there to help. Growing up in a house with a sibling who was addicted to alcohol and gambling anytime someone tried to help before the person was ready ended in failure and all it did was make the person who was addicted hide the addiction even more to stop people "interfering" in their life.
Reminds me of the old joke:
How many addiction counselors does it take to change a lightbulb?
Only one, but the lightbulb has to really want to change
So the Zappone excuse/defence is 'it was an oversight' that nobody was told outside Varadakar/Coveney and that it 'won't happen again'?
Where have I heard that one before?
'New' politics?
The role has wages of 13k-15k before tax. How many people did you want to have a meeting about it?
Ah right, it is only x amount...who cares? Very good. Stock excuse number 2 deployed.
I'm forming an opinion based on comments posted. No more, no less. I've not passed comment outside of what was posted. That's what happens here, we pass comment on other comments.
Making statements that people are swarming soup kitchens looking for handouts, using them so they don't have to spend their own money on food or keep their money for the pub, is looking down on them IMO.
Tbf its farcial...your wan simply made up.the role and ffg went along with it
....surely this would be a case for SIPO to investigate, what went on here and have her answer before the public accounts committee so as to ascertain the need and value for money here?
I heard Varadkar say she's based in New York so it'll be a nice earner from abroad. I hope she doesn't bill us anytime she flies to Ireland.
He also said he didn't follow the normal procedures regarding putting her forward. More corrupt cronyism. He said it was on him, so that's okay.
I didn't say that but good spin, very dishonest posting here.
We know from the exposé of FG FF councillors diddling their expenses that that is where the lucrative abuses might occur.
The 'wage' is the least of the concerns here.
Lack of transparency, cronyism and potential for the taxpayers to be fleeced yet again.
FG's answer - 'nothing to see here, shure we won't do it again'.
The 'arrogance of power' writ large.
Is that including expenses?
That's exactly what you said.
It's only x amount...why would you expect them to do things properly.
This is a common problem across all parties and independents. The government needs to invest in a proper end to end expenses system to monitor what is going on.
That is not saying every TD or councillor is up to no good.
No I didn't.
According to the link in the main thread on this subject it doesn't include expenses.
Zappone isn't a FG member, she stood for Labour last time I checked.
All this over a role that pays 15k a year, before tax? That is less than minimum wage, for the people who don't know.
What you said is a bit like Leo saying it wasn't 'cronyism' and then going immediately on to give a text book example of 'cronyism'.
He says Zappone approached Mr Coveney to create the role.
He accepts her name should have been been flagged to the Taoiseach and it wasnt and he and Coveney accept that
You inferred that proper procedure and transparency didn't apply because the wages were only small.
Thats assuming, she works 40 hours a week 52 weeks of the year?
Its a bit of a jokeshop,we cant enact laws to curtail investment funds pricing people living here out of the market....but have all the time in the world to invent makey uppy jobs for government cronies
The devil is in the detail, they all went into outrage mode without reading the article. Also worth noting the 15k is before tax, so maybe 6-8k after tax.
She was independent I believe.
Can I call Coveney and get Varadkar to create a tax payer funded 15k a year job for me to do? It's only 15k sure.
What will she be doing? How many hours a week?
15k plus expenses. 'The devil is in the detail' as they say.
Also as a foreign resident, will she be paying taxes?
I'd love to know what need she's filling with this role.
How dare you ask questions about this, WHO do you think you are???!!
EDIT: Sorry mods, forgot I was persona non-grata on this thread. Post edited.
The article is behind a paywall but based on information from here
