Depends where you are going , but know that road well. From west Wexford I normally join it at Carlow, so have a good bit at about 80 km/h plus the bit in from Naas which is quite economical driving. I personally wouldn't do the full motorway from Waterford return without stopping and charging a little(300km?). And it's too nice and quiet a motorway to limit your speed, at least till you join the M7. It could be done but would leave little reserve, but certainly not in the coldest months. Though winter range can be not far off summer with a little care, pre heating and not having the car like a sauna..😉.
But as mentioned there is a good choice of en route charging particularly on return at Ionity or Kilcullen. Destination charging may also be convenient. M11 also an option but it is a little longer unless going to south side. But a much more interesting drive IMO and better for range generally.
Interesting feedback thanks. Close enough to my own figures, we also have an Ioniq 28. My best estimate is that the Ioniq is about 10% more efficient for just normal non motorway driving at similar speeds. That increases a little at motorway speeds and in the coldest months, the Ioniq having an advantage of better aerodynamics and heat pump. Also the battery heating hurts the ID, particularly on short winter runs. VW may alter this, but from what I hear it looks unlikely.
Difficult to compare the space of the two, but boot definitely bigger in ID.3. It's a cm or so narrower in back seat, but wheel arch doesn't intrude. Not as long, but you are sitting taller so plenty of legroom and still plenty of headroom. And easier for older folk to get in and out. My 6"1" lanky son has no complaints anyway.
Looking forward to a few pics when your upgrades done..
In MY22 models, the difference in charging capacity between the Tour models and the others is only 5KW (125KW vs 120). So, faster but not much.
Ah so the rumours were true then that they would increase charging power, so they seemingly increased it from 100 -120 Kw for the 58 Kwh so perhaps the 78 Kwh went from 125 - 145 Kw ?
Would be nice if the tour and tour 5 got an increase too, rumours say they will increase it incrementally to around 170 Kw maybe more as they get more data.
Hopefully existing owners can get this increase too when OTA updates kick in.
Can anyone who has a my22 tour or tour 5 see what their dc charging speed is ?
77kWh Tour models stay at 125kW. And the 58kWh models move to 120kW.
I don't think anyone has a MY22 ID.3 of any kind yet.
The MY22 specs are listed here 120 and 125kW

Strange they didn't increase the charging power for the 78 kwh, at least not yet.
77kWh
So finally bit the bullet and went for a ID3 Tour. It was coming into stock so am lucky I won't have to wait to much longer for its arrival into Ireland. But I am really confused with charge choice. My top contenders where the EO mini pro 2, Zappi or the VW own one. The other half is determined to go VW regardless of the price difference due to quality. Are we mad or should I try the Zappi. Appreciate any feedback.
Do you need load management? As in do you have electric showers or other higher power devices?
if so, then it’s a no on the VW charger
Got the prompt there for the OTA update for v2.3. It's updating now so I'm not sure how long it'll take.
Anyone know if there is a published list for what v2.3 does?
Seems the VW factory is closing down for holidays. Weeks 31 to 33.
Thanks for that. Don't have anything high powered in the house. So it could come down to a flip of the coin :)
oh Grow up ffs :-)
Presume the prompt comes up on the car screen? Nothing on mine as yet..
Yeah it came on for me on the exit screen.
I seem to have done the first part but there's a second download happening now.
I found the OTA details on the VW facebook page, just cosmetic stuff really.
Got told during the week my ID3 delivery week is gone to wk 42…
Yes apparently it is in 2 parts. Didn't expect them to be so close together.
Good luck btw you must be one of the first in Ireland?
Had a quick look there and it's still only about 1/3 of the way through the second update so it takes a while. Hopefully it'll be done by the morning.
Yeah i got the car in September last year so probably one of the earlier owners alright.
How’d you manage that. I ordered in June and still would be lucky to get that in October at this point.
Seriously?
are you looking at solar pv down the line?
Edited below.
Where's the delete post button gone???
Range test report, for anyone interested!
I did Claregalway to Navan earlier this week. Decided to do a bit of an experiment with the range and consumption on our 58kWh Style.
For the trip east, I took the R roads as far as Athlone (back roads, via Monivea, Menlough, Caltra, Ballyforan, Brideswell), then the “old” Dublin road to Kinnegad and then R roads to Navan. Didn’t go over 100kph at any stage, and had plenty of slowing down through the towns and villages along the way. Total distance covered was 190km, battery level went from 95% to 51%, so 44% used to cover 190km. That’s just about the most efficient I’ve seen with the car so far, and equates to about 430km from 100-0%, all things being equal. The drive took 2hr and 45mins.
For the return journey, I took the same R road as far as Kinnegad, but then hit the M6 to the Oranmore junction and then the road to Claregalway. The distance was almost exactly the same, 185km. Of that, about 135km was on the motorway at 117kph (not sure why I chose that number, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t over the limit). Occasional slow down with ACC for traffic, ring road around Athlone, and toll gate, but otherwise a fairly steady 117kph. Battery level went from 81% to 19%. So, 62% for 185km, equating to about 300km from full with mixed (mostly motorway) driving. Journey time 2hr and 5 minutes.
There’s a fair old difference between 300 and 430 range, but it really comes down to speed more than anything else. I suspect there was a bit more of a headwind for the return journey, and there were a couple of showers, but otherwise the temperature conditions were similar.
Nice to know I can do over 400km if I’m not in any mad rush at this time of the year.
Not notice the ":-)" ?
For those of you that have a VIN , seemingly you can get more info on the car from the erWin service.
I cannot post the link - but its simply erwin.volkswagen.de
(Edit - this may not be free to use)
I ordered the ID3 in very early June and I am now being told it will arrive in mid October? Will it even be available then? Should I try and kick it into 2022? Anybody else getting similar news? I was originally told it would be early August. Thanks.
No guarantee that the grants or 0% PCP will still be available then.
Well, was all successful? Apparently not a lot of change visible and looks like timed charging still not fixed.
A good few of us here got the cars around 20th Sept last year, so interested to see when update comes..
We have solar PV on the roof but don't have a battery pack so we just use or loose as far as I know...
