I would go with a Brazilian or Colombian bean if you want a chocolately more "traditional" type coffee
Cloud Picker, formation - bit of a caramel, choc, nut flavour in milk base coffee.
Bell Lane European Blend.
Generally Brazilian/columbian seems to be less floral etc.
The prices on bell lane and cloud picker are absolutely crazy in comparison to UK online coffee retailers.
I would rather buy locally but the price difference is too large.
Can anyone recommend some decent Irish supplied options for roughly no more than 20 EUR / kg?
Thanks
Are UK suppliers able to ship here any more?
Honestly have not found one much cheaper than 23+ for blends. Used to use RAVE myself pre Brexit but nowadays just wander to CloudPicker for mine, then again I am only really burning through a kg a month.
Some posts a few pages back give links to sites in germany etc that are supposed to be better value. Maybe one of them might work.
thanks for that.
Yeah i used to use Rave with Parcel Motel but that's no longer an option unfortunately.
Thanks I will look back on those posts you mentioned.
emm I dont see why not? https://www.spillerandtait.co.uk/ still delivers to ROI.
Delivery is expensive though. 10.95 GBP
Rave don't offer delivery to ROI but I'm unsure if that was always the case as I would have got delivered to Parcel Motel.
My latest order from Germany came with a couple nice freebie surprises. A coffee sack and a couple of sample packs.
What's the site you order from?
This was my 3rd large order with them, so i guess it was a kind of thank you.
what use have you for a coffee sack?
were they just having a clearout?
The snark is strong with this one...
Some coffee roasters sell the sacks. The cat's currently sleeping on it, but I have several other uses in mind when she's finished with it.
Ive mounted and framed them before and one is currently hanging in my kitchen.
Dammit, I never knew I needed a coffee sack until now 😁
Mmmm, as soon as the cat sees that you have a need for the sack, it will suddenly decide that it needs to use it again.
Can you recommend any particular coffee from the German site?
Thank you.
Just fill it with pebbles and leave it on the kitchen floor near your coffee machine. That way when guests arrive you can look cool and tell them “yea, I import my own beans directly from Africa 😎”.
then when they’re not looking, get the Nescafé out
And they are likely to be as unimpressed with my knowledge of geography as they are with the coffee I served them.
I found that site because I was searching for a source of the Indien Pearl Mountain at a lower price than locally, so I would have to recommend that, though someone else mentioned not thinking much of the locally sourced one, so I guess it's a matter of personal taste. One of the others I have tried, they no longer stock and the Peruvian (Peruano) is nice, and my latest order includes it, along with the Kappi Royal, which is another Indian, the Mexican, the Capoeira-Kaffee (Brasil), the Ethiopian and another kg of the Pearl Mountain, but I haven't opened and tried any of these yet.
I was actually trying to order a diverse variety from a place in Czechoslovakia, but their payment processor didn't like where my card was from at the checkout, so since I was about to run out, I went back to this source, which was slightly cheaper anyway due to their very attractive flat €5 shipping, which has me ordering as much as I can squeeze in my freezer at a time, which is about 3Kg.
I will definitely give the Czech source another go for the next order, with a different card.
Bought from Handpressed coffee based in NI a while back £20 a kg,free delivery, roasted on dispatch day. Had the Guatemalan and Brazilian both vere very good
https://www.handpressedcoffee.com/store
Soma have a Washed vs Natural tasting set atm - nice!!
https://somacoffeecompany.ie/products/ethiopia-bale-mountain-natural-vs-washed-tasting-set
UK delivery only, just to save anyone else from wasting time browsing the coffee before figuring out they won't deliver it!
Thanks - had picked out a few bits for a future order - like the way you can specify the roast.
Seems poor given they are NI based according to the OP
Bailies have a Brazillian coffee for £21 per kilo if interested. £23.85 (€27.98) delivered. But their roast dates can be a bit hit and miss.
Coffeeangel will do a 1kg of espresso blend for €27 with free delivery if you subscribe to get it once per month.
Cloudpicker do a 1KG bag for €28.35.
Those would be the best deals on 1kg bags that I'm aware of.
I got free delivery to Ireland and just ordered again.
Edit
Just checked the site there was an option to choose Ireland in the drop down menu for delivery looks like it's been removed
Dreambeans do buy 4 250g bags get one free deal. I've been buying their Bourbon Manizales blend and I can't fault it for espresso. It's been the easiest dial in and almost always ends up as a beautiful shot. Shipping is free too.
Works out at 26€ ish euro per kg. Highly recommended.
What setup do you have for dialing in
I have a Rancilio Silvia and a Eureka Silenzio grinder. I've tried a few other beans from them too, Sweet Sorrento and Jaggy Loko but I've found the Bourbon Manizales to be the nicest.
Any comments on the new Rising Tide blend?
We tried all blends, but found Rising tide to be nicest. Always roasted within 3-4 days of delivery
I've settled on the Slumber Jack beans in Lidl for the moment.
€5/500g bag is great value.
