The AROP rate is 12.8% across the population.
Among workers, the rate is 4.6%.
So yes, you are correct, the AROP rate is not zero among workers.
However, given that many min-wage workers live in non-poor households, increasing the min wage means sending more wages into non-poor households.
So it is not the most effective way to reduce poverty.
Ireland has low rates of poverty among workers, compared to other countries.
You quoted me when making an accusation so I don't disagree, you are incorrect.
Why are you talking about "racism"? If someone was trying to ridicule a person on PUP that is not racism. I think you mean "discrimination"
and is going in the right direction. Any person in poverty should be helped by the state if they want the help.
The problem as mentioned before is the growing drugs issue when some people do not want help, we need to stop drugs at a young age or it is going to be a massive issue in 10 years time.
Where in that article are they being ridiculed?
Genuine questions about the legality of the claimants and potential for fraud are being raised, but that doesn't amount to ridiculing them.
I think in the examples being given, there are no victims. If someone is exploiting the system unfairly, they are not a victim.
This refusal to face up to the potential for fraud and abuse in systems and to pretend it isn't happening is actually bringing schemes into disrepute.
The thing about these articles as well is they have loads of pictures of TD's but when you actually read the article non of those TD have commented
It is full of "one minister" or a "concerned minister" but no names against it. So if you go to fact check the article you find out it is all bulls**t and no minister said it at all. Terrible journalism but they know their audience will just see the picture and not read the article to confirm if the picture corresponds with the comments.
So no one said that they are looking down on other people, you just made that up.
And no one is victim blaming.
Do you not feel silly having to strawman to make your point?
No one is saying it isn't happening. A minority probably. But what about the majority??????????????
A minority will always try to abuse any system whatever it is. Thats the world we live in.
Well if you are going to be dishonest and try shift goalposts we could go on forever. I've no interest. You said you'd not seen any comments on here regarding people swarming soup kitchens. I supplied the quotes. Now you are trying to change reality to suit what ever your agenda is.
The irony of using a strawman while making an accusation of strawman. Desperate.
I never said anyone said they were looking down on people and you know this. You asked for quotes I referenced in my opinion that people were looking down on others. I supplied those quotes and as with your fellow traveller above you are childishly attempting to change the narrative. Desperate.
People needing soup kitchens are merely the latest group bto fall foul of people defending government policies. Shameful IMO.
Trying to use anecdotal evidence of some fraud, (which there likely is to be fair) to look down on people desperate for food is reprehensible IMO. It would be nice if the same effort of concern was put into discussing the people who need a soup kitchen to see out the week.
The overcrowding in hospitals is coming back into the news. It hasn't gone away you know.
It'll be interesting to see how FF/FG/Green transition to not caring unless they can work in some private contracts. It will be difficult to go from working on people dying in hospital from Covid, to ignoring people dying in hospital corridors from other causes. But I suppose the world won't be watching as much.
I am still trying to work out why you used the word "racism", if you could explain please? I ask because you seem to be calling a lot of people including me a racist so I would like an explanation please? Thank you
Good man Dudley, proving his point exactly, when shown that "despite you not seeing them" the posts were here on the thread.
Now, as already stated you're away off on a different tangent about racism or some other spam conversation.
It's not a very honest or fair way of debating things, I noticed your posting style earlier on, very familiar, naive/innocent - slightly argumentive - then dishonest and contrary.
Are you a fan of any English football teams by chance?
A government that spends millions of tax payers money to insure apple deosnt pay tax,has no business slashing payments and pretending to be concerned of payments to ordinary people
We're effectively just a tax haven for billionaires, while the government works overtime to slash and burn those who offer much more to the country
Most poverty is caused by addiction to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and gambling. Unfortunately government cannot force people on how to spend there money. Even in countries which use vouchers to try to prevent poverty addicts sell these vouchers on. We had it on other forms over the years where butter vouchers (30 years ago) were traded for cigarettes.
We can all be as concerned as we like. We can increase the minimum wage to 20/ hour but those that suffer from addiction will use any available money to satisfy that addiction rather than spend it on other day to day needs.
Any person that has dealing with a person with an addiction will tell you the addict need to first recognise his addiction b fore he can be helped.
The biggest problem with addiction is the people that have to suffer because of the addicts use of funds to satisfy his habbit whether it's his spouse, children or relations.
Those who think the main beneficiaries of a rise in the minimum wage will be those in poverty have no understanding of real poverty or its conquences.
We have people on here trying to beat up the government over an issue that we spend more on than any country in Europe which is unsolvable unless we decide to control totally the lives of those that suffer from addiction.
I disagree you see it on here every single day a certain section of posters looking down on others because they have a different view or do not support what a party does. We even had a poster on here refer to people who had a different view as "Special Needs" and we had a poster who is still posting liking that and still talking down to people. You also have the posters who dismiss articles because they didn't appear their perferred MSM site or god forbid it was on Twitter.
In the posts above we have one poster above who is more concerned about the very few people who are committing fraud or using soup kitchens because they are stingy rather than the more genuine people who are in need of the soup kitchens. It is the same with people who need Social Welfare they are not all scroungers or lay abouts but for some posters here that's all anyone on the Dole is. Then when fraud is pointed out like certain politicians claiming thousands of Euro in expenses and not being where they should have been and goes sailing off into the sunset but that's ok because he is wearing suit. It is sickening to see that hypocrisy and those poster on the high horse speaking down to people.
Noone should live in poverty though, even those who cant work, shouldnt be condemned to a life of poverty
It along with inserting right to healthcare, housing, education, water & basic food should be proper prioirties to be inserting into the constitution.....whats the point of all this perpetual econmic growth otherwise.....get those folks suffering addictions all the health and assistance they need, theres no rational reason, not to do so
There is no issue unsolvable or too difficult to fix,if the political will and initiative is there to do so,we have no problem introducing all sorts of lockdown restrictions to save lives, while poverty will kill many multiples over peoples lifetime than what covid will and ffg just hand-wave it away as too much hassle to sort
I suggest you asked Shebean about why the word "racism" is been discussed.
Dishonest way of debating? If someone posts something are you saying that people are not allowed question them? ask for clarity?
Someone calls posters racist and nobody should ask why?
That's a very strange way of using a message board
Surely this is a wind up?
Anyone confirm this?

Here is another one for you.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I was commenting on people looking down on people using soup kitchens and the like to dismiss the problem. As I said claiming some are misusing it while never mentioning those who are genuine is not credible.
If you can quote where I raised it all your questions will be answered.
You said you'd not seen any comments regarding people swarming soup kitchens. I supplied it. So now you are looking to change tactics. Why? Only you know.
Some would rather focus on the minority that abuse the soup kitchens or Social Welfare rather than focus on the majority that need it. Also aren't there other services that have branched off from the soup kitchens such as doctors being able to treat people, barbers and hairdressers there to cut peoples hair all because they know that the people in need will be at the soup kitchens. Remove them and this is gone as well.
He thinks he's playing SIM City or some game. It's trivialities to put on a veneer of caring.
If you say so

Pity FG wouldn't do the same. I don't think there are any FF supporters online.
Why would they need to?
Maybe SF are setting an example and confronting it where as the other parties are burying their head in the sand. That is the way I would read it.
You should listen to her. You're embarrassing yourself.
You made a false claim and are looking to change tactics again.
