Much nicer out today in Kilkenny, about 5C to 6C cooler than this time yesterday.
Last night was better for sleeping too.
I don't see the problem with the likes of terms like tropical nights etc. The media can be a bit annoying and all that but I don't see the problem.
If a tropical night is temperatures not falling below 20c ,Whats a tropical day lol? When temps reach 30c?
We have ice days when temps don't get above zero, whats an ice night or Arctic night lol? When temperatures get into double minus figures?
That temp profile chart isn't normal, flex or not. Might just be the difference between a few degrees, but its how there are distributed.
And Debbie was originally a hurricane, and the big wind was an actual storm.
"i insist that language should be used only as I deem appropriate".
Just I as insist what is deemed 'misinformation' or not. And you, little children, will comply with my shallow political beliefs... coz, ya know.. 'science'.
You’re right, this modern habit of giving names to things is unacceptable
im especially annoyed at those scamps from 1836 for naming ‘the night of the big wind’ and those media hypesters in 1961 for going on and on about hurricane Debbie
i insist that language should be used only as I deem appropriate
Looks perfectly normal to me, given that it's a flex scale, so colour gradients represent only tenths of a degree. Show it on the normal scale and it will look fine.
Given boards.ie was down for the relevant time, can I ask how far out people foresaw this heatwave?
Met Eireann station maxima averaged over the last 7 days (up to yesterday)
As mentioned yesterday, Castlederg's 7 day average will come at 28.1c, so safely in the top 10. My own local Met AWS station has the 7 day high average at 28.6c, which is based on top and bottom of the hour highest readings rather than the actual max reading, which I would guess is roughly .1c to .3c higher., so realistically, the 7 day average max would be more closer like 28.7c or 28.8c.
There will probably be another good spell in August but I seriously doubt we will see this type of heat again in 2021
Nights should be cooler so a 24c 12c spell could be better than the 30c 18c of this week. I'd reckon 2nd or 3rd week of August might have some good weather.
However it's back to the Northwesterly slider from Monday and that always lasts a couple of weeks.
By the way Markree was 29.5c yesterday and Finner 28.8c so my own weather station reading 31c in Sligo was probably only a degree or so too high.
I can’t see anything to back that up unfortunately.
Well said. The debasement of language in a media-focused era is far from acceptable.
Did they call this next heatwave the 'Pain from Spain' by any chance? or the 'Glance from France'? or the 'Dismay from Biscay'?
Are we not supposed to get another head wave in August on the 1/2nd? my bro sent me a link to a Sky News warning
Looks like rubbish for forseeable after tuesday 😟
No, it isn't. It's junk terminology for junk mass media consumption. Pretty much in the same respect as naming 'storms' and calling winter easterlies 'the beast'. Media/social media fodder.
A summer afternoon temp profile/distribution like this just isn't normal.
Still 20c at Cork Airport and Roches Point at midnight
Feels chilly tonight, despite it being above 16c at almost 1am...
Hopefully another 29c tomorrow but that might be a stretch.
Relax lads, it's a bit of fun
Disappointed. I went to sleep thinking that when I woke it would be cooler. It is not cooler. Still hot and sweaty. West Mayo offshore
r
Captured this on the Drone today. I intercepted a cell moving towards me in Crossmolina, Mayo.
The gimmicky devaluation of language...
My county was on it the other day south Leitrim only because there was a 10c difference between North and south
Wow impressive
The UK Met Office is very helpful. I think they will send you historic daily data from Castleberg if you ask them. No harm in asking at least.
For what it is worth, the 7 day average maxima for Castlederg (not including today) is 27.7c, which is on par with Ballyhaise and Claremorris.
Tomorrow, that 7 day average (which will include today's max) will be 28.1c
They had south Leitrim the other night which gave me a laugh! They'll have to split Cork in 10 by those standards, expect warnings for mid East South East Cork!
'Coldest' day? 😅
Finner 23c at 10pm, 22c at Cork Airport. Stunning, stunning night.
I noticed Met Éireann warnings now include part of a County e.g. North Tipperary was in the warning earlier, since when did they start doing this?
Sorry I don't know. I've searched before for more data but had no joy. I was told to email the met office but I never bothered.
This is a great link for sunset and sunrise times. Put in your location.
