Even with those poor summer weather days in 1995, 1995 is still kicking 2021's arse in terms of longevity, even if record temperatures were rare. Let's not get carried away here. Those cloudy 1995 days were humid and thundery. Totally understandable.
Ballywatticock's coordinates are just a field or two in from Strangford Lough, just 2 km southeast of Newtonards Airport. Killowen (if it's the one in Co. Down) is about 60 km away.
Have you phoned that into Glasnevin as yours is an official Met Éireann station
Otherwise we'll be hearing lower figures on media and from Met.ie
Soundings are primarily for measuring upper air data, so Valentia is a good spot on the western fringe of Europe. It would be great to have one launched from Athlone but there is no real need for such close spacing, unless it was launched at different times, like the ones in England.
27C was reached again today at Dunshaughlin, however none of the days here have been as hot as last Saturday where we had 29C for 5+hours.
The mean average for Dunsany is now 17.2, a very high mean temperature for this station. I think this will go up a little bit more over the next day or so before leveling off and falling down again during the final week of July. July 2018 finished with a mean of 16.5 so there is a chance July could finish with a similar value.
Oak Park is now sitting at 17.8C up to yesterday and it may reach 18.0C over the next few days before falling back into the 17s during next week.
Looks a real heat trap alright, very poorly ventilated. There are rules against that sort of thing but in many cases following these rules seem optional. Castlederg seems to have a lot of paving too. Probably not an issue 99.9% of the time, but in cases like these it's bound to add a few tenths of a degree.
Have sent it to them indeed.
I'm sure some issue will be found lol
They didn't mention it at the 6 one forecast
You're outside the orange warning area too and yet you've recorded at an official Met ACS,a temp higher than any in the orange area
Can't believe northern Ireland beat its record temperature for the 3rd time this week and yet the rest of Ireland was struggling to hit 30c, Clare was the hottest today with 31.2c hopefully we get a week of rain and then 6 weeks of 30c weather
Is Villain's station an official one? Saw a page or two back that it recorded 32C
Stunning evening now in south mayo
and it’s not too hard to sit out in either !
1995 was exceptional but I wouldn't write 2021 off as getting into that bracket yet. It has August and maybe a week or two of September to go.
June 1995 was very cool and dry until the heat built from 22 June onwards.
A year like 1991 had hot weather from 10 August until 15 September. 2003 was recording 25C up to 18 September. So what I'm saying is if we get a decent back end to the summer its ranking will change a lot.
Danno's temps have been used by met Eireann before. I think a mid 20s on the last day of September around 2011?
Any sign of this awful heat going away soon?
It will be going this weekend. Next week is going to be much cooler and the end of next week may turn autumnal with temperatures below average and rain/showers most days.
Tropical island Inis Oirr this afternoon.
That's a very big if!
It is. But stranger things have happened 😂 In 1976 I'd say they thought they'd never see the like again.
Scraped another 30c during the afternoon, which I didn't think would be possible given the layer of high cloud.
while the local Met Eireann AWS reached 29.5c on its 30 min reports.
Temps not to fall below 19C here tonight, that nearly reaches tropical status.
Warmest night yet maybe in Cork City?
Its not
Its just a Davis vantage Pro 2 but perfectly set up
Danno's in Durrow co Laois though is an official manual climate station for Met Éireann
Its 31.2c today would be an official recording
Yep, that's correct. I was more pointing out that the Killowen reading that day was likely legit. Whereas it's difficult to see how the Ards area could have achieved such a high reading
A stunning evening in west cork, a very European feel to it. Looking over the ocean the cliffs have a haze over them similar to what you'd see in southern Europe. The sky is red and blue and the sun is a big red ball. The beach was full of surfers, walkers and adults and children in swimming. Amazing to see at half 9 at night!
Serious heat here in SW Donegal the past week.
Anyone else in the north west having regular drop outs of their Saorview signal from Truskmore? It usually happens me when High pressure is about.
I remember August 1995 had a mean of 18.9C in Kilkenny. And the final week brought it down a bit. July 1983 was 18.2C.
Max of 31.3°c in West Clare today making it the hottest day I've ever recorded (had weather station since 2014).
Currently 23.9°c and dropping very slowly, it's gonna be a warm night.
Another hot day for tomorrow, and while temps may be a little down over the weekend, they'll feel no less uncomfortable due to the high humidity. It won't be until Tuesday that we can say that this God-awful spell of weather is behind us as cooler (more normal) temps and dewpoints move in from the west.
You'd wonder what kind of hedge was surrounding the 1887 station in KK that got the 33.3....
Nice moon out tonight
A merciful breeze here near Arklow too (where were you all day!!)
