The place seems to be a bit of a ghost town since the move, many people haven't come back
I think you have to click the boards logo then go to 'my threads' tab. But you don't get notified when a thread has been updated. Only if you have been quoted. Some forums don't seem to appear there though, even if you have posted it them since the upgrade, but I am guessing they are just bugs that might be fixed tomorrow.
Made a right balls of boards. Its harder to navigate around and the touch site which I always used is horrific and impossible to work your way around it
Why change the thanks function for a like button, ad generated revenue threw Facebook?
I think it could well be finished if they don't do something drastic. It's an absolute disaster of an update and that's clear to see.
"My Discussions" is only the threads you started - well at least for me it is ..
I hope not. I missed boards the week it was gone. I'm not much of a poster but read alot so I'm hopeful it will remain popular
Edit the post blank while you can edit.
Nevermind. How do you delete things?
Not a fan of the new site. I've noticed that 50% of the forums I used to frequent have gone significantly quieter. I can't find the other 50%.
I agree the my forums list and the dropdowns are essential, get that sorted on desktop and half the complaints will disappear, then fix the modile experience, I find it unusable but tend to use desktop more.
The loss of the most thanked posts is also very annoying.
Unless find all my posts and followed threads returns this site is gonna be a dead duck.
I find the site hard to navigate as well to get to the forum you want.
The touch site is horrific. Think this is gonna be the final nail in the coffin with boards.
I'm certainly here less often. Some might think that's a positive thing though. Slowly trying to figure out it all works now but that's going slow.
I only use the desktop version on a 42" TV and can only view at most 2 short posts at the same time due to all the white space.
I miss the dark/orange theme as all this white is hard on my eyes. I guess I'll have to use a dark theme extension for my browser which is always a pain.
Something went wrong.
I missed it when it was away but it doesn't quite feel the same since its come back. Visually I think it looks well but it is a lot more hassle trying to navigate around the forum, particularly on mobile. Taking your phone out of your pocket and having a quick scroll isn't really an option anymore.
It's not as bad on the desktop site but the site does feel much quieter, which could be down to a number of things from the weather to the new layout to the week of the site being down.
The main thing that needs to be addressed IMO is the mobile site and having the drop down list of forums from the top of the screen.
The longer issues remain unfixed the more people will drift away from the forum permanently.
Really missed the site when it was down and not liking the new look. Resistant to change but won't be browsing elsewhere instead just yet.
as long as it doesn't go the way voat /boards did, it'll be grand. (although a mod or two gone rogue posting inside secrets would be some craic)
Yeah, I'm all for alternative Irish based places - have browsed **** this evening - no harm in alternatives
That's an easy one-install the dark reader add-on, enable just for this site, unless you want it elsewhere-and away you go.
Not dead, but it's the hottest summer of the year so people are at home less.
I'm not a fan of the new layout, can't properly navigate my forums that I subscribe to. No idea if I'm following a thread after I comment on it, and how to turn it off.
The layout of the UX is weird. Even now I've got this massive blank space on the right side of my screen and there's way too much white space.
How do you get the dark mode back, can't find any option for it on desktop site. The only positive I see is if you click a thread title it automatically brings you to the first unread post instead of having to hit the old tiny icon...other than that it's fairly awful.
I been following the lads at **** and he giving it a good go. Might die out but seems to be gaining lots of interest from boardsie members looking for some I'd the old.
It's awful on phones. Not auto subscribing you to a thread you post in is silly also.
It’ll pick back up fairly quickly because there’s no real alternative. It’s kind of a pity in a way because it is at the stage where the people running it need a bit of a wake up.
Boards is far from dead. The mobile site is a bit unfortunate but I can't see the change heralding its demise.
This site now reminds me of vids on youtube of people reviewing Commodore 64's .
Boards is dead
R.I.P
Yeah I’d like a return to the dark mode too... I’ve got the iPad brightness down to about 25 - 30% to stop boards burning the corneas out of my skull, it’s crazy bright. I wonder what % of boards users regularly used boards in dark mode..
I’ve noticed the Covid forums in particular are dead. They used to be hard to keep up with.
I really miss the dark theme. Also don't like that I have to refresh the page to update latest or trending.
A week was a long time to be off, especially the week it was off, there some really massive sporting events coming to a conclusion and news items like the Dublin bye election. The new site is also not that user friendly as in it's not obvious how to navigate it, it seems to take much more effort to find threads than before. The only real good thing is being able to save a draft of your post and come later to post it.
There does seem to have been a big downturn in people posting, but, that could be down to the fine weather and people getting familiar with the new set up, hopefully in time it will improve as it was a good site for info and a bit of craic.
I don’t even know how I managed to navigate to this thread tbh.
All the features I liked now seem to be impossible. Not easy to follow forums, the amount of scrolling required everywhere is ridiculous.
RIP Boards. You had a good innings.
