Poor performance last weekend and a poor weekend for Cavan football in general given the hammering the U20s got.
The seniors were well in the game but coughing up a couple of goal chances and conceding sloppily at the other end meant we were 4 down at half time after being the better team. The goal just after half time was a killer. There was no kick in us after that.
I am supportive of Graham but there were some very odd things going on. Gunner was atrocious yet it took an injury to get him off. Jason McLoughlin at wing forward makes zero sense to me, especially when you have McCurry destroying a young lad at corner forward and our best man marker is up the field pretending to be a forward? Our inability to find a way to get the right type of ball or to just basically involve Thomas Galligan in the game was shocking.
Not sure where we go from here. Typical Cavan. New heights in 2020 only to fall to the lowest depths in our history in 2021.
The U20s were atrocious but I did point out in advance I expected that given the coaching team put in place. The tactics were poor - slow, plodding play whereas Down attacked at speed. Was very hard to watch (when ya could with the Pairc TV issues!).
I’m not sure where the seniors go from here. I’m hearing morale is low in the camp. Moynagh parachuted into the starting 15 above lads who have trained the last two years. I also heard that there has been very poor communication with players who last year were making match day panels, and even starting 15s, but now aren’t getting a look in and haven’t been given feedback why.
My own reading from within the county is that people would be happy for Mickey to stay but it doesn’t appear he has the power to rejig the coaching team with him so, on that basis, some people would prefer to see the whole lot gone.
Should we expect anything from our minors?
Fermanagh had a good Minor team last year, Monaghan just about got past them in Breffni after the lenghty wait. Fermanagh beat Down before that.
Whether they have many from that team remains to be seen. Cavan at home would still be expected to get the win
Did the minors not lose in the first round to Monaghan last year after kicking a high number of wides?
I suppose people set their own standards but I wouldn’t describe any team who couldn’t win a championship game as “excellent”, particularly one who were the better team but couldn’t see out the game.
Donal Keoghan & Castlerahan complaining about the championship being delayed until September but, with the amount of games cancelled this weekend, we may be lucky if the whole lot isn’t shut down before then.
Why were the games cancelled?
Well one club listed “unforeseen circumstances” on Twitter. Another just said the game was postponed and gave no reason.
Covid outbreak in one club.
Just Donal complaining.
More than one club. Have a look at the number of fixtures postponed. I also know of other clubs that have postponed training at different underage groupings due to cases.
Re the complaints, We Are Cavan lads had it that Castlerahan contacted the County Board re the September championship and were the only club that did.
That's 100 percent not true.
What’s not true?
That Castlerahan contacted the County Board.
Club games are going be a big problem with all these Covid outbreaks now.
I'm hearing expectation is that the whole lot will be pulled, starting possibly with the kid's games. Most of the cases now seem to be in U25s.
Perhaps, I didn't hear it myself which is why I quoted We Are Cavan. I would have thought they'd have checked it and with Donal being quite vocal about it are you sure they haven't submitted anything?
Hope not for the kids sake but i suppose they are going to have to make a call on it at some stage.
Did you hear that from a offical GAA source if you don't mind saying?
It was a GAA source but, to be clear, he was stating that is his own expectation. Nothing official confirmed yet. I do know in some areas this week that parents were ringing to see if Cul Camps were definitely going ahead so it appears word is known its spreading round Cavan.
Alot of clubs appear to be trying to adopt a more measured approach than before and just cease training for any groups who have actually had a case rather than the whole club stopping.
What was the reason given when Keoghan asked about the September start date.?
The Ulster Club if all going well is to be played in October/November, so Cavan will be fitting in 7 games in short enough time. Maybe they want the competitive games close to that date unlike the long 3 or 4 week breaks.
Though with the delta variant things getting messy again..The whole Gowna team got covid
The whole Gowna team do not have Covid.
Here is Donal’s tweet where he tagged Cavan County Board:
“Complete lack of respect for club players starting championship second week in September.most clubs do not have proper lighting to practice and develop players come September.@CavanCoBoardGaa all about the money”
As I said 100 per cent there was no contact with the County Board from Castlerahan.
It's a two month old tweet i haven't heard any mention of any clubs not happy with a September Championship.
It doesn't make sense anyway i doubt if there is any club in the county that doesn't have floodlights suitable for training purposes.
He has a point about the Co board and money.
The Cavan Co board were the only County to play a replay in the County finals last year,. With covid delaying other counties, it was unnecessary to play a replay. The Junior final was delayed and still to be played.
The senior final replay had nothing to do with the Junior Final being delayed. It was delayed due to a Covid outbreak in one of the clubs and then everything got shut down.
He sure has a point. Sure I believe one time they appointed a manager of the county team just because he was pumping money into it. Imagine.
Never said it had anything to with the Junior final. The point is there could have covid cases in either the Crosserlough or Kingscourt team before the replay ,and they would be have stuck then..
You talking about Cavan years ago or Monaghan at the minute!!?
Well what I am saying is that Donal is well placed to understand how money is king in the Cavan County Board.
