Thou wilt not use a perfectly apt descriptive term when it's a FGer. Leaking docs, fiddling expenses, requesting sterling bungs...not evidence of corruption, no siree! 😀
Ya have to laugh....its so tramsparent and above board....he had to send the documents to his mates house and not nagp headquarters across the road
I mean like im suprised fg dont just own it,irish people tend not to mind corruption in politics when voting and jump on the infamous tagline "leo always delivers".
Countless pages with FFG posters struggling with the definition of corruption , nothing has been learnt ,obviously
For someone who gets so upset when he feels replies to his posts are personalised, you fairly target Francie!
I know Francie's logical, rational and factual posts wind you up so much that you don't know which way is up but the phrase pot and kettle comes to mind.
Francie obviously doesn't need me to fight his corner but I think you get the point.
Maybe you can blame Samsung? 😉
Countless pages of likeminded posters talking among themselves more like
As I said, some people seem to live in a parallel universe where there is no understanding of how multi-seat STV constituencies work in a different way to single-seat by-elections.
He is trying to invent a new definition of corruption to get away from his claimed adherence to the mantra of "innocent until proven guilty" so that it doesn't apply to Leo, only to his beloved good republicans. He does the same thing, trying to create a heirarchy of criminal thugs making it as if one murder victim is more deserving of justice than another. It is a completely despicable debating tactic.
Is leaking a document an abuse of power= yes.
Is abusing power and trust a form of corruption=yes.
No requirement here for a verdict, Leo has admitted to leaking the document and is sorry he did it.
Now, once again you have difficulty with a perfectly normal descriptive word. Ho hum.
As I said, inventing your own definition of corruption to hide your despicable hypocrisy.
So abuse of power is not a form of corruption?...it's actually referenced in most meanings of the word.
I will have to get my hands on this now legendary FG dictionary.
My bad. As an aside, very sad news about your U-20 county lad. R.I.P.
Tragic...was cheering on his man of the match performance just yesterday. Life can be very harsh.
RIP
Stellar contribution, remind me how it adds to the discussion?
Thankfully we have legislation to light our way in the dark as to what corruption means.
Corruption in relation to office, employment, position or business
7. (1) An Irish official who, either directly or indirectly, by himself or herself or with another person, does an act in relation to his or her office, employment, position or business for the purpose of corruptly obtaining a gift, consideration or advantage for himself or herself or for any other person, shall be guilty of an offence.
(2) An Irish official who uses confidential information obtained in the course of his or her office, employment, position or business for the purpose of corruptly obtaining a gift, consideration or advantage for himself or herself or for any other person shall be guilty of an offence.
Only the most foolhardy would not admit that Varadkar is sailing extremely close to the wind violating the provisions of paragraph 2. On the literal interpretation of the legislation, it's not a pretty picture for Varadkar. It will be interesting indeed to see what the DPP will be making of it.
Strikes me that the DPP will have to be reaching for the FGdictionary. 😎
He's admitted to it....you goys tie yous self in knots trying to pretend he hasnt😂
Talking among yourselves again I see...
Carry on 🤣🤣🤣
Do you not like the provisions of the Criminal Justice Corruption Offences Act '18 or something? Has the cat got your tongue Marine?
It's a classic example of the 'arrogance of power' They think the law and rules do not apply to them.
We all know he will get off a potential prosecution but the damage is done and he will be reminded of it at next GE if he is leader.
A lot of grumpiness around this thread. The government wouldn't be at 50% in the polls now, would they?
Could this government run for 10 years and turn the country around? The level of grumpiness would go sky-high.
The 'government' won't be standing in the next GE, it will be individual parties. Will they lie to the electorate again at the next GE? how many elections will they get away with it do you think?
😁 The sun is getting to you. The answer is an emphatic No. Zero chance this government will be re-elected.
The only relevance what blanch is saying has is if this government stands in front of the electorate. They won't be.
They didn't lie about refusing to enter government with Sinn Fein. Do you think they will lie about that the next time?
As can be seen from the polls, the people who voted for them are prepared to forgive them for going in with each other. Those voters won't be so kind if they go in with Sinn Fein. That is why I expect a similar government to be formed next time out. Sinn Fein will be the forever bridesmaids on the opposition benches, while some combination of the five parties interested in governance - FF, FG, Lab, Greens and SDs - will form a government. Possible that one or other of FG/FF could be left out the next time.
And we will get more of the same and several more points will be stripped off the power swap's share of the vote.
It's happening in front of your eyes.
It's a sad thing for democracy when two parties with a reputation for corruption, dishonestly selling themselves as alternatives to each other join forces to keep out the most popular party in the country.
This is about protectionism. The two sides of the historically corrupt coin helping each other out.
Nobody is happy when a party they don't like gets into government but most of us accept the will of the electorate. Working to keep out SF, (or whoever) is stacking the deck in the fear you'll lose your grip and be unable to do favours for friends and cuckoo funds.
They are use to being knocked out for a term or two, the fear is SF or others upsetting that routine.
But if FF don't rule out a deal with SF ahead of the election then they won't have to break their word to do it...
Another poster who doesn't understand that 24% isn't a majority. Thought we had cured all that last year.
If the National Party got 24% instead of Sinn Fein, or Aontu, or PBP, I would hope that the other parties would do the same and keep them out. We don't want parties that are a danger to democracy holding power.
You obviously didn't understand my comments.
The point is FF and FG are in partnership, not for the best interest of the country, but to try keep out any other option ongoing, (SF being the most popular with the electorate in the last election),
This is about fearing being knocked down to third or fourth consistently having become use to being in, out, in for generations.
Judging by the reputation and actions of FF/FG, the country could do with a change.
FF/FG trying to stop that for purely selfish reasons is the sad thing.
It's not really about SF. It's about FF/FG fearful of not being the only game in town.
