2010 model avensis 2.0 d4d

Are the d4d a good car from model 2009 onward the newer shape.

There isn't many 1.6 ones there all the 2.0 d4d your would see for sale.

Some say the DPF get blocked up on the from short journeys.

But you would see alot of taxi drivers with them and they would do alot of short journeys also I would imagin.

Any of ye guys own one long term are they a good car the 2.0 d4d.

DPFs don't give alot of trouble on those cars. however they can have injector problems which are costly enough to replace. You also cannot compare a taxi to occasional use when it comes to potential DPF issues. Taxis can do hundreds of short journeys in a day every day so the engine is running at optimal temperature most of the time meaning the DPF regeneration will complete it's job compared to a car being driving on one or 2 daily 15 min runs to the shop or school run.

If you need a family car don't have use for a diesel then take a look at the Prius hybrid. Alot of taxi drives have switched to them now too.

No worries, the days of diesels doing 300000k trouble free are gone for the most part because of emmision technology on the engines which does not go the distance and is expensive to fix. Buying a used diesel to save on fuel can be wiped out by a few injectors failing.
