Trump has being doing his level best to normalise things which both red and blue could have agreed would be untenable 10 years, not least leading a f**king march down to the U.S. Capitol building on the day of the Presidential Election getting Congressional Assent. That is completely insane.
Just flip that around in your mind for a second and imagine if Hillary Clinton had led a march down to the U.S Capitol on in January of 2017 based on a claim that had no legal standing (and yes, we all know about the accusation of Russian collusion... which got a full federal investigation with significant findings), and some of her supporters stormed the building. Imagine the meltdown on U.S. right wing media outlets. Tucker Carlson showing up with wearing a bandolier saying he's ready to go to physical war. Judge Janine kicking down the set. They'd all be breathing absolute fire.
By comparison, the more left/centrist media was pretty incredulous and outraged by what Trump pulled on that day, but so exhausted by the previous 4 years of Trump's antics that it just didn't seem so abnormal anymore.
So unfortunately, for now, the sh*t has become somewhat normal. If the contents of this Pandora's box can be put back in and the lid shut, it will at the very least take a while.
Damn, we here in the US desperately need Donald Trump, or someone like him, back. We’ve gone from the freest country in the world by the end of Trump's presidency to the now repressive and frightening country that it is today.
