Picked up Doki Doki out of curiosity and its definitely a different experience. I've never really played graphic novel type games but its nice and short and kept me hooked til the end. Not sure what else to say about that one really
Well it seems boards has buggered up lists:
Game|Platform|
Air Combat
It's a lot more basic than Ace Combat 7 but I really enjoyed playing this. A good fun short piece of action. As a PS1 launch window game, it's pretty great. The flight model is good for its time but of course would be built upon later. Graphics have dated but for it's time this would have been stunning. One issue is that flat ground isn't textured so can lead to accidents while flying close to ground level. The game's biggest issue is the mission variety but then again that's judging the game against its sequels. If I had gotten this around the PS1 launch I'd be very happy with it and it's fun to see how this series started.
Kamui
A doujin shoot'em up from japan from 1999. While it took a while for the western indie scene is become a thing, in japan homebrew games on PC was a big deal with some very high quality releases such as Kamui. I credit fed this one but it still counts!
Kamui is a doujin take on the Taito classic Layer Section. Both games use scaling and rotation effects to give a sense of depth despite being totally 2D and the effect in both cases is absolutely stunning. Kamui may even be better looking than Layer Section in many stages. You've got your normal shot but you also have a focused laser that can destroy most if not all projectiles. You also have a lock on attack that can lock on and destroy targets below the player. You'll constantly find yourself juggling focusing on what is on the same plane as your fighter but also what is below you.
Enemy encounters and bullet patterns are fantastic. The game is more patterned after Taito classics like Darius or Layer Section so never gets into Bullet Hell territory. I much prefer this style of game and aping Taito is no bad thing, IMO their games have some of the most complex and surprising attack patterns of the genre. The game also has an interesting score multiplier system if you want to take your game to the next level. You lock on weapon has a multiplier and destroyed enemies will sometimes sink before being destroyed which leaves them open for a final lock on attack.
You can pick up Kamui for pretty cheap along with its two excellent sequels on steam pretty cheaply in sales and it's a bit of a hidden gem on the platform.
My god, what have they done? The forum is unreadable.

The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone. I needed two missable trophies from this DLC for 100% which didn’t necessarily require completion, but I decided to finish it anyway. I think Master Mirror is a great character but I was never a huge fan of Hearts of Stone, mainly because I preferred Master Mirror to the so-called David Beckham look-a-like victim in all of this so the motivation to help said victim wasn’t there. I remember letting him succumb to his fate on my first playthrough out of pure choice. There are some interesting quests like the heist which demonstrates the brilliant way choice and consequence is handled having played this DLC three times now and observed pretty much all the outcomes. Well, except in one area...don't love the way the writers practically bully my Geralt into banging the Shani character when he’s betrothed to Yennefer so I had to outright fail her quest for the third time to avoid the romance because the writers don’t seem to understand the meaning of consent. If you liked the main game you’ll like this but otherwise you can live without it. Blood and Wine is far better.

Returnal
Amazing game didn't really see the cries of difficulty until the last areas tbh, it can be a tad overwhelming at times and it does really depend on your build and guns but really really enjoyed it. The gameplay is the perfect mix of challenging and one more go. Excited for the future of this IP
Ruiner
Got this for a couple of euro on nintendo eshop played it now and again, not bad kinda like a blade runner-hotline miami mix, entertaining enough but not as good as hotline miami.
Currently playing Mass effect 3 to finish off the trilogy and started Mario v rabbids which is surprisingly excellent.
After this I think I will tackle Yakuza 2, 6 , Judgement and Yakuza 7 Like a dragon.
Excited to get to 7 as I have seen talk and footage on it and it looks bonkers

Gris. Completed and platinumed. I was ready to tear this game a new one when I first played it. Realising quickly that it was a metaphorical story about grief, it started off with all of the subtly of a sledgehammer and seemingly suffered from indie game syndrome where it seemed embarrassed by its own medium and more preoccupied with being an award baity emotional piece of art…but I was wrong.
I gained a lot of respect for Gris as time went on because behind all its seemingly try-hard artistic flair is an actual game and, for someone who hasn’t played a proper 2D platformer in quite some time, quite a challenging one. Reviews will tell you how beautiful it is and that’s true - the art style is gorgeous (gaining colours to fill out the monochromatic outline is an actual plot point), and the music is emotionally evocative. However, these are added bonuses.
It starts off very easy but then really takes off the training wheels in the latter half. The way it works is that you have to collect the required amount of wisps to move on to the next level. These wisps are often encased in puzzles that are fairly simple but the level design around the second to last chapter was so convoluted and directly woven into said puzzles that I actually got lost in the map, circling an area only to realise far too late that I had already been down that route at least two times before. On top of that it creates a mirror world where you’re required to traverse the level upside down and switch back and forth between upright which sent my head spinning. It was frustrating but as I overcame it I grew to respect that about Gris. Been a while since a game has kicked my arse fair and square. I’m sure the level design is amazing because at the end of each chapter it kept taking me back to the hub area showing that each one is seamlessly connected but I could not specifically tell you how lol
So yeah, a lovely little game. Definite recommend for those who like chillax experiences like Journey (this IS a chillax game, I just sucked at it) or for 2D platformer fans in general.
Probably won't post my full list for a while until the forums are fixed...
Watch Dogs Legion: Bloodlines (DLC), (PS5). Completed, got 100% trophies. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this given that it abandons the USP of the base game i.e. the ability to recruit anyone. In fact, I think the back-to-basics approach is its best asset. It was somewhat liberating to drive around London and know that every NPC is not just a Pokemon for me to collect. This DLC sees the return of Aiden Pearce from WD1 so for many that will be the decider as to whether this is worth a buy. I personally thought Aiden was a glorified thug but his story was somewhat compelling and I empathised with the sense of guilt he felt over what happened to his family.
Rather than a radial wheel of weapons, the devs stay true to the core of Legion giving Aiden only a select few which makes sense. It's just kind of jarring knowing the full scope of what Aiden is capable of and makes some of the missing features from the old games, like the ability to hack traffic lights, more noticeable. That said, the tools they leave Aiden with more than make up for this. Blackout enables you to do multiple insta-takedowns mid combat and the flying spider drone is a level killer.
As for Aiden, himself, he’s still the skilled hacker he once was but cut scenes demonstrate that, where open combat is concerned, age has taken its toll. I appreciated that attention to detail (he’s about 55 years old in this). This story is a prequel to the base game campaign which means a lot of doomed characters appear, good and evil. You do side quests for a lot of these characters which always end with Aiden warning them to be careful in future and being overly sentimental with them which is corny, yet still made me sad knowing their fate. Upgrades are tied to these side missions rather than collectibles providing a more streamlined edit, but at the same time means you have to work harder for the dosh seeing as you can’t just roll in with your magic carpet, nick a tech point and then fly off.
Oh yeah - you also play as Wrench from WD2 who is as annoying as ever but his inclusion lead to a lovely little voice cameo from the guy that should have been in the DLC if Ubisoft hadn’t pandered to a vocal minority of racists. Oh well.
If you like the main game and/or if you liked Aiden and/or Wrench you’ll like this. If you liked none of these elements then don’t bother, this won’t change your mind.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale (PC)
Brilliant indie puzzle game where you paint in a world drained of colour. Similar to 2d Zelda games. They're aren't enemies in the world but there are dungeons with bosses. Also deals with issues like depression.
Borderlands 3
More of the same really. Enjoyable game although I don't think the characters were as good in this entry. It's probably a little too long for this type of game too, with the side missions etc you are looking at a good 50hrs to finish it all. The only difficult parts were the Circle of Slaughter levels, the rest is fairly straightforward once you have decent weapons.
Streets of Rage 4
I'm not sure if this game is designed for multiple playthroughs, it seems as if it is with the various characters and trophy list, however one playthrough is definitely enough for me. It was a fun game but it's very simple and not overly challenging. I know it was a design choice but movement is very clunky. The music is very good and I liked the nods to other fighting games. I'm glad a I got this free with PS Now rather than paying for it.

32. Return of the Obra Dinn. Completed and platinumed. I’ve been eyeing this for a while as I’ve heard only good things, and it was declared, "one of the greatest games ever made" on here a while back. Is it one of the greatest games ever made? Um…the short answer is ‘no’. lol. Not IMO anyway although I can see why it's adored. It’s a puzzle detective story with the added twist that you do actually have to make a bit of an effort to work out who died and how, using attention to detail and process of elimination. This often entails observing clothing and ship roles, listening to accents and background sounds, looking at surnames and nationality and analysing these things over and over again until there’s only one logical answer left. It’s been described as ‘detective sudoku’ which is funny but strangely accurate. It’s the type of game that would be fun to play with somebody else in the room or even to watch somebody else play on a stream as you debate each characters identities and why. The story is actually really simple but brilliantly told and I'm surprised how I grew to like and detest characters in such a short space of time. The concept, the 'hook' as it were is really gripping BUT - and there is a 'but' unfortunately - Return of the Obra Dinn is tragically stopped short of perfection by some very silly quality-of-life issues that I cannot believe the creator, Lucas Pope, who is clearly a very talented and intelligent guy, allowed to be in this game.
The basic gist is that you’re tasked with investigating the doomed ship known as the Obra Dinn. Your job is to find out exactly what happened to everyone on the ship i.e. who died and how then note it all down in your journal. You have a list of personnel and passenger names, a group photo, as well as a glossary of what the different ship roles entail (which was fascinating to learn in itself) that you need to link together. Whenever you get three mysteries solved the game will tell you.
Here are the problems with it: Number one, the obnoxious jagged monochromatic art style. I’ve become more conscious about accessibility in games in recent years after hearing numerous experiences of people with disabilities realising far too late that they literally cannot play the game they bought. I do wonder how people with various sight impairments would get along with ROTOD because even I who has reasonable eyesight was struggling. As mentioned, this is a game where attention to detail is paramount to how successful you are in solving a case and there were too many times that I’d get stuck longer than necessary simply because I could not make out what the hell was going on. Is the person being knifed? Are they being strangled? Is that person Asian or Caucasian? This was obviously not the ideal design choice but almost certainly a compromise due to budget constraints. I think if it had a more traditional art style with colour it would have been far less headache inducing. It doesn’t help that when you stumble upon a new clue/crime scene the screen violently shakes in celebration of your discovery which just made me want to heave tbh. It’s a shame because some of the character and *spoiler* design is amazing but the artist makes such a mess of it.
The second issue is the quality-of-life. I’ll say this until I’m blue in the face: players should never be expected to micromanage your user interface. This game needed a quick ‘replay memory’ from the journal rather than expecting players to walk up and down the ship to activate it. Furthermore, when you discover a clue the game forces you to wait for the musical sequence to finish before playing the crime scene out rather than allowing you to manually trigger it right away. I mean, I like the music but I also like my time which the game is disrespecting when it does this. Also, some crime scenes are connected and before you can even make a deduction the game violently shakes your screen and barrels you to the connected crime scene causing you to forget where you were, what just happened and to whom, and in some cases you cannot access a crime scene without activating the one connected it which is just…why?
TL;DR: You should play Return of the Obra Dinn if you like detective puzzle stories but perhaps in small doses before the irritating little quirks begin to ruin your fun. I’d love to see Lucas Pope have another go at this type of thing with the quality-of-life issues sorted and a bigger budget because I think there is a real buried gem here but it’s…how can I best put this? “It’s a good game that’s annoying to play.”
