Zgemma H7s Guide

After taking the decision to get rid of cable I took the plunge and bought a Sat box. I was going to buy a Tiviar Alpha Plus due to its support on here but they were sold out at world of satellite and they suggested the Zgemma as it had similar specs.

Here is my guide to anyone new to the Sat world after getting this box . I hope it will help get through the initial frustration and hurdles you have to overcome. The H7S is relatively new so it's not discussed as much as the alpha plus but with the same software installed most guides can be used for both. I think the alpha would be equally challenging to set up. It takes time and patience and reading so be prepared for a bit of work but it's very satisfying in the end.
Some of this will be obvious to Sat heads but it's meant as a guide for beginners like I was who have some knowledge of the basics. This is from memory so excuse any vagueness of detail.

Here are the main things I learned..

1. To get Saoirview and Uk channels on the same epg listing you need to scan Saoirview 1st then do a second scan of the UK channels ensuring that the option to delete any previous scans is switched off. By doing that you mesh the two together so they can be gathered in the auto bouquets. (This took me ages to figure out!)

2. To install a skin easily you can put the downloaded skin found on the net on a usb and put it in the usb slot while live TV is playing (without any menu open). That will get a prompt to install the skin. If that does not work a plugin like Dreambox found in the plugin section will show all the folders in the sat box and the USB drive can be found and opened to try the install. If that does not work you need to connet a PC and use software like Filezilla to access files on the box from a PC. It's quite easily done if you follow the online guides.

3. A lot of people want the SkyNEW skin for the sky feel (without the sky channels of course!) and it does work but be warned it will prob make your epg crash every time you try and use it. To fix that you need to download a patch file to repair it. Dont install that skin unless you are prepared for that. You will need prob to connect a PC to do that and put it in the correct folder as per the instructions from where it easily found in a google search in places such as techkings etc. You might have to register an email to download these but there's no fee. It looks good when fixed but to be honest other skins are better that the sky menu which is comforting at first but you might feel it unnecessary and lacking functionality after a bit, but that's a personal preference.

Once you get it set up to your requirements its a great machine and very fast with a super picture so it's highly recommended. I hope this helps someone!:)

BTW in the past Newstalk can be a bit dodgy on satellite. If it disappears for a few minutes or the sound goes wonky like its off channel, the fault is not on your end.

Yes I have checked several times and its not there-lots of UK stations but no Newstalk.No idea how to get it without doing full scan.

Did you press the Radio button and then red all radio stations button, Newstalk should be in the satellite stations.

Just bought one of these H7S-fully scanned and setup.I like it so far but as I like to listen to stuff on Newstalk but it's not there...all RTE is there.I am non techy so don't want to screw around with this...is there a way to get Newstalk on it without screwing up whats there.

Have you checked that you have the correct aerial for the frequencies of the transmitter you receive from?

You are getting a bad signal or that usb tuner is dying. Where did you buy it and what is the model reference. It may be a duffer. They are not dear and it might be a better option to just ditch it.

How have you the coax set up ie have you split it correctly? Can you check signal strength on each tuner and compare and then swop feeds?

I have openvix loaded now so can see same as you. I use a good aerial with an amp and a three way splitter. aerial is outside but have trees in line of sight. Very poor without amp, with amp its 100% or agc 96%.

I use sat cable for the aerial not cheap coax, it all matters.

Say a bit more.

Thanks Johnboy. I worked my way back to the aerial - all connectors etc. seemed fine. Had a look at the aerial orientation and going on what it said on the soarview website the aerial was about 20deg off. Readjusted [using the compass on my phone - not great] but all working now again.

Aerial orientation or cable from aerial issue seems most likely.

Check the connector/s on the cable, that is often the problem area - either loose or a braid problem.
Work your way from tuner to aerial checking all you can.

I think one of my satellite tuners has failed too. Luckily I rarely record anything so can work around it, but AutoBouquets wasn't updating and I'm not getting a signal if only connected to it.

Can these be swapped individually?

Maybe, or maybe the signal is just too low for that tuner on one mux.
Can you receive those channels if you feed the tuner directly from the aerial without any splitter or feeding the internal tuner?

Hi guys, sorry I found it - setup/ tuners & scanning / miscellaneous!! I was having trouble with mux 1 saorview coming through USB tuner. But no bother coming through the coaxial one. I suspect my TV tuner is on the way out!

Hi there, I'm have a h7s running open vix. I have two TV tuners for saorview. One is via the normal coaxial and the other via a USB tuner. It always seems to default to tuner D which is the USB tuner. Is there a way I can set it so it defaults to tuner C. I just don't have the confidence in the USB tuner I have.

You need to setup a password on box first and saved as ftp wont work without new password entered.

Good evening all,

I am having issues with FTP connection to my box using both Filezilla and Dreambox Control Centre. I am also getting a message oscam webif disabled.
Been ages since I had to use Filezilla, I am happy with the ip address as it works fine with openwebif in the browser, i am using root as the username and tried a blank password and ports 21, 22 and 23 to no avail. I have created a password of root now in Network but it still wont ftp.
Any thoughts or advice?
Rebooted the box etc also.

So my question is can this model take HDMI cec command ( for navigation around menus + play/pause etc ) from the TV remote? A friend mentioned it didn’t work with his TV

1. AFAIK it can be done with a bit of messing but be careful of security as it can open your home network to potential risks.
2. Yes HDMI CEC works with Samsung TV remote and vice versa.
