Agree, but this is setting a precedent (although I just had a quick look and my understanding is that it isn't quite done yet and will be submitted for enactment next week ... I think they will get serious pressure not to do it).

Definitely, and doesn't really help with the last month or so press for it.
But...
It is still an entire Country declaring that they will be accepting it as legal tender. Can only imagine a lot of people will want to get in on that, criminal sounding or not.
I would imagine if all cocaine dealers shipments had declared that they had to use monero or something, that the price would shoot up :pac::D (not saying anything about to shoot up - still waiting for sub €25k).

Not passed yet, its a bill that is being tendered - doesn't mean anything yet
Even if it does get passed it will be inconsequential to BTC
Damn even Musk has more influence over this stuff than ES does

Given Jack Mallers‘ involvement, Strike or some other solution based on the Lightning Network is probably to be introduced. Also it wasn’t said too clearly but I suspect the USD is planned to also remain legal tender (a large part of the population is unbanked and Strike is offering to wrap USD payments over BTC and the lightning network, so there is one possible scenario whereby the USD remains the unit of account but BTC/lightning becomes the means of exchange).

It would be a interesting experience to have cash/lightning and USD/BTC co-exist and see what people chose.
