We are involved in the community sports teams. My area is very quiet, full of families and I love it. And FWIW (if its worth anything) I am white irish, from Dublin all my life. I enjoy the multicultural aspect of the area and the schools. Most of the people here have more in common with each other than differences.

We do not know area too well. My work buddy is from the area and has given us a list of the following areas to avoid: Most estates near the shopping center Blakestown Hartstown/Huntstown Fortlawn/Sheepmore Pinebrook Whitestown Corduff Tyrrelstown They also advised against most of Clonsilla and Ongar and recommended we try stretch budget to over 400k to purchase house in Castleknock. Are they correct with this advice? thanks

Hamachi wrote: » You get what you pay for. Your budget is very low for Dublin. D15 is probably the least desirable post code in the city for several reasons including location, demographics, and some social problems, which are somewhat exaggerated by the media. One area to look at is Littlepace. It’s almost adjacent to Ongar, but seems significantly nicer. It’s about 15 years old, mostly settled, and has avoided the social problems reported in Ongar. Worth a look.

People buy here because it’s affordable, not because it’s hugely desirable.
handlemaster wrote: » If they work on the other side of the city that makes sence not to buy on the opposite side. There is a logic to that nothing to do with the area itself.

niniboots wrote: » It seems your perception is based on wildly exaggerated media reports and anecdotal conversations with office buddies who aren't looking in D15. D15 IS HUGE, there are fabulous areas, very desirable areas and less so desirable district's, if budget is one of your arguments for insulting an entire area that seems silly! FYI you won't get much for 400k that's not cheap, keep going upwards for Strawberry Bed, Homeleigh, Farmleigh, Castleknock Village, Georgian Village, Park Dive, Luttrelstown, Bracken View, Old Carpenterstown Road you will need a very very large bank balance. Regardless, your points are not accurate for thousands who do love and live in the area!

Hamachi wrote: » I live in Dublin 15. As you say, there are of course desirable areas. The OP’s budget is 300-350K. S/he is very unlikely to having the buying power to purchase in any of the districts you’ve referenced. I’m not insulting the entire area. I’m pointing out the perception of the area, amongst many not familiar with this part of Dublin. For some people, Dublin 15 conjures up false images of gangs, high crime, and borderline ghettoes. I agree that this reputation is undeserved. Having said that, it’s a simply not true that Dublin 15 is perceived as being one of the more desirable post codes in Dublin. It’s both dishonest and misleading to the OP to imply otherwise.

handlemaster wrote: » In this case the logic by your colleagues is not to live on the opposite side of the city (geography) to where they work there in giving the logic. It makes perfect sence to me. I.wouldnt do that either. Perception by whom exactly. I can't find any such sentiment of perception online. As I say I have seen lots of positives for the area.
niniboots wrote: » I believe you stated "D15 is probably the least desirable post code in the city for several reasons" That is both dishonest & misleading to op, in my opinion!

py2006 wrote: » That is nonsense. I have cousins in that area that I have often visited over the years. There are specific small parts of Blanch that are quite undesirable but to say Castleknock and the estates bordering it are undesirable is rubbish. You are talking 5/600k + for the cheapest.
