I know but in terms of dealing with CEX it's an indication on how well a product has been tested. Before buying anything from somebody to resell to public the basic testing they do is meant to include checking for intact warranty seal and making sure serial numbers are visible. Their policy is not to buy when warranty seals are broken or even replaced, for example they refuse to take GameStop recertified consoles with GameStop warranty stickers in place of the original manufacture warranty sticker.

If these obvious things are missed by the tester there is a good chance something wasn't tested at all.

If they aren't legal for the manufacturer then they aren't legal for gamestop to do either regardless of store policy.

Maybe it's different for second hand parts as they legally don't even have to provide a warranty.

I bought a GTX 1070 from CEX years ago, I exchanged my GTX1060, 1070 DOA they tested and gave me back a voucher I then got a GTX 1080 from them and it’s been solid, it was practically brand new in the box, I wouldn’t have any issues buying from them, you got 2 years warranty plus a 2 day buy back option in exchange for a voucher.

At retail the short answer is very unlikely.

Alternate.de, caseking.de, computeruniverse.de will sell here but both are let's say semi-scalping in themselves.

Amazon is botted to bits, in 3 months of part alerts I've managed to get 4 into my basket but 3 where sold by the time I hit the pay now button. I managed to get a 3060ti when I set up one-click payment but that was cancelled by Amazon. Everything else was sold in the 2 seconds it took to click on the part alert link and open the amazon site. Prices have risen on Amazon too.

I've since managed to buy direct from AMD, so I'm sorted thank God.

EDIT :- just wanted to qualify something, I'm signed up for RTX 3060 to 3080 alerts. 3090's which I've no interest in MAY be easier to get but I've no experience of trying

I wouldn't mind going a bit over RRP but paying twice is a joke. I was thinking of 3060Ti or 3070 but I might just go with an AMD.

RX6700XT or RX6800 would both be a good option for that level of performance but without raytracing or dlss.

If you don't care about any of the Nvidia features then AMD is usually the way to go. I personally got a 3070 purely for NVENC (which I'm hearing mixed things about now). I can't even use any of the other features though.

RTX and DLSS would be nice but I don't really care that much about having them so I will probably go AMD.

How have people been finding price and availability lately? I've only been keeping a proper lookout for the last week. The prices on the euro amazon sites are closer to msrp than I expected. Like they're gone in seconds but it isnt quite as bad as I thought it might be. Have people had success?

I've had some success with Amazon over the past month BUT don't actually have a card in my hand yet.

15/4/21 ordered an RTX 3060 ti from amazon Spain, €783 no due date on purchase, got an email last week apologising for the delay
24/4/21 ordered an RTX 3080 from Amazon UK for €964 delivered, due 8th May, cancelled by Amazon on 1st May, really gutted about that one
8/5/21 ordered an RX6800XT from Amazon UK site, €1250 no confirmed date
9/5/21 ordered an RTX 3070 from Amazon French site, €1099, supposed to be in stock and dispatched tomorrow
14/5/21 ordered an RTX 3080 from Amazon Spanish site, €1420, due 20 june to 18 July
14/5/21 ordered an RX6700XT from NBB germany, €929, ordered on hold due to a problem with my VAT address.

No, I'm not planning to get them all! When I place the first 2 orders I stopped trying to order as I assumed they would arrive, then the RTX 3080 order was cancelled I decided to redouble my efforts.

I've "successfully ordered" a few cards from Amazon over the last few months including a RXT3060TI, then it was cancelled as where others. In the end I decided to go with AMD direct, where after a number of weeks I managed to get a RX6700XT and the following week a RX6800. In my experience and based on comments from others on discord it seems Amazon can oversell and orders can be cancelled a lot, so even if you managed to get order in it'll be more than likely cancelled. One guy on discord over the last 5 months successfully order 23 times, all but one was cancelled.

Amazon is very heavily botted, so any product that comes into stock is gone really quickly, usually before any part alert sounds. You're best hope is to be fortunate enough to get a card which has not been previously sold by amazon. As it's a new product its product code won't be targeted by the bots.

Having said all that and while It's very very hard and very frustrating to get anything it can be done eventually, but a lot of luck is required and in some cases you will not pay any thing like RRP. You'd probably get it you when you least need it

According to "some in the know"(could be Bull****ters!) on discord there are only 300/400 per model available on amd.com each week for all the EU. In fact no stock of the 6800 seems to appear.

400 cards per card type seems right, I think there has been less some weeks. The RX6800XT hasn't appeared in the last 2 or 3 drops. The RX6700XT, RX6800 & RX6900XT have appeared on each of the main drops. I received the RX6700XT(Monday) and the RX6800(Thursday) last week.

After I finished my builds was removing discord and part alerts when the RTX3080 popped up on my feed. If it arrives I'll be amazed, it's probably well overpriced but still cheaper by 500 - 1500 euro than other "retailers"

I'm going to try the AMD direct drops as well. Tried last Thursday but it appeared to be a particularly bad week. My 980ti is showing it's age.

I guess there's always the vain hope of a massive drop of 3080tis next month....

Best of luck , your 980TI if sold on Adverts will cover a large amount of the cost of any new card if you can get one at RRP

Probably it will be the best opportunity to get a card from amazon as the bots won't have product codes readily available prior to sale. If the Hash limiter is introduced it could also make these less desirable to miners. However I don't think it'll be a massive drop

In all fairness RRP is pretty much a joke at this point, especially on the nVidia side for higher end cards like the 3080 and 3090 - not only the retailers and distributors jack up the prices 'cause they know they still sell, often the manufacturer themselves sell at scalper levels: there's an ASUS model of the 3090 (don't remember the specifics, but nothing with a fancy cooler or liquid, a pretty basic one) that I get notifications about almost on a weekly basis...sold at 2300 Euro, directly by Asus.

Probably just a token effort by Nvidia but it's confirmed Lite Hash Rate or "LHR" RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 TI cards on the way.

Did they ever say if this is going to be another drivers thing or something deeper, like firmware on the cards?

It's interesting to see what they come up with because while it's easy to consider this all some sort of lip-service by nVidia, his time around there are stakes: the future viability of the market.

Now, it's true that a sale is a sale and as long as their GPUs fly out of the warehouse they'll be happy, this is becoming an issue of immediate profit versus future sustainability.

The core customers for this type of product are gamers, without a doubt; Gaming enthusiasts, existing and new, are the people who keep upgrading, buying new products, follow the announcements and in general prop the GPU market up. There are professionals as well, but usually their turnaround is a bit slower.
Miners, on the other hand, are extremely unpredictable customers - they're buying your entire stock today, Crypto crashes tonight, they won't buy anything for months or years, until the whole shebang is profitable again.

As the market stands, people -gamers- are actually starting to lose interest. Even YT channels like LTT or Jayz2Cents are running into content-creation conundrums 'cause their audience simply don't want to hear about GPUs anymore, or don't seek that content out. If they can't buy something, they'll eventually stop even caring - which is something that has the potential to make future products launches for nVidia (and AMD) quite a bit more difficult.

Let's be honest. Nvidia knows that if/when the mining boom crashes, there'll be a shedload of GPUs suddenly available again on the second-hand market. I think this move is good PR yes, but also mainly to mitigate those future losses to that second-hand market.

I think after the 3060 driver fiasco they spoke of doing a firmware/hardware fix.

I reckon a firmware fix could be easily overcome by some resourceful miners , that is if it's not accompanied by a hardware tweak. In the short term anyone who has a current RTX card may find it's value has gone up even more.

True that, but these can't be really considered "lost sales", as these GPUs where in the hands of people (miners) who wouldn't buy them otherwise, while a gamer buying an "ex-miner" RTX card, would've bought it new back in October anyway. nVidia (and/or the other OEMs) already got the money from these sales.

Additional sales with the new "low hashrate" cards, to gamers still waiting for some stock, well that's indeed a goal. Would be frankly hilarious if miners were saddled with used cards nobody wants in the long run

I managed to sneak a 3080 FE from scan in December last year,seriously tempted to move it onto a miner and then wait till I can get a card closer to msrp down the road.

I was reluctant to spend €700+ on just a GPU but it's getting even harder to not think about selling it for double that price. Hard to justify keeping something that has a value so high when all I use it for is games.

Try get a current RX6800 AMD card, sell The FE to a miner for double or more than you paid. That'll pay for the new AMD card and leave you with about 800-1000euro. When the limited RTX come available the miners will want AMD cards so the value of them will jump through the roof, try get a LHR Nvidia RTX card, sell the RX6800 for double the cost of the new LHR Nvidia RTX card.

I'll bide my time and see what happens when the LHR cards get released, but if supply of the new cards becomes stable I'll for sure be shifting my 3080 FE on fleabay if the miners are still paying outrageous money for them.

Spent ages trying to get my hands on one in the first place though so there's no way I'm going back to not having a decent card.

I got a new 6900 XT on an AMD store drop a few weeks ago. All I use it for is games. Really loving playing Control on it at the moment with ray tracing. I had a Vega 56 previously. I know it was expensive and I only play games, but really loving it right now. I wouldn't dream of selling it
