Clothing 101- recommendations

Hi,
I've gotten back in the saddle after years of not cycling. Clocked almost 100km in the past 1.5 weeks (which staying within the 2km radius).

without CV I'd go for a 30 min or 1 hour cycle, average speed 21.8km so not sweating loads. When the world gets back to normal I'd like to think I'd build up to 2 or 2.5 hours.

Currently I wear cyclying shorts, an old tracksuit pants, dryfit tshirt & long sleeve soccer jersey (thin) or a tracksuit top & Northface windstopper jacket (light enough) & gloves if gets chilly/windy.

Does one normally just wear a base layer & jacket? (non-winter)
So am looking for recommendations w/o breaking the bank. Links to sites for specific items would be fantastic! For a short 30 min spin mightn't need the gear as much but there's obviously benefits to having the right gear- not getting too hot/cold, comfort, body breathing better etc.

Was looking for low light glasses and they had “a sale” on. Had seen a few riders with their glasses on at races, so took a punt on a set of photochromic K3 glasses.
There was also a discount code which basically covered the delivery.

Promptly Shipped from Northern Spain overnight with DHL.

Very slick packaging and presentation-well on par with more expensive brands. The quality is very good too-a good solid pair of glasses for around 40
Quid.

I bought another pair as spares and passed on the code to a workmate who bought glasses and a jersey-he was equally impressed. Normal sizing in the jersey, so not Lester Piggott cut.

SIROKO are now a major sponsor of the Vuelta, and seem to be on a fairly aggressive ad campaign, so on my experience, they’re not passing on gash-it’s good quality product.

+1 for Galibier and I have built up a collection, all top quality and always very reasonably priced. The mistral jacket is up there with the best and really a fraction of the price compared to a Castelli gabba. I have only found the 3/4 bibs not suitable but that's is likely due to my height at 6'6, probably very difficult to get any 3/4 bibs

. Galibier also now offer a longer leg bib short, perfect for a taller rider

Also +1 on siroko, the gilets are a great addition to a spring kit and even Chilli summer start, very light and fit in the pocket, also have a Jersey but haven't even removed the tags. Has anyone tried their bib shorts?

With the weather picking up recently I've been out in the short-sleeved jerseys. Do folks recommend wearing the likes of the Spf50 light arm warmers from castelli or just embrace the tan lines

. Was also looking at arm warmers from galibier, I have their roubaixleg warmers and find them good. Any recommendations?

Can't help, as normally embrace the tan lines. However, I'm undergoing light therapy, so I have to cover my skin for the foreseeable.

Anyone used and compared cheaper options to the castelli arm and leg uv sleeves?

didnt so much enjoy cycling in my flappy running tshirt today so looking at a jersey or two.

Galibier seems to be highly rated here, would picking up one or two of theirs be advisable?
Are they better than the Siroko jerseys which seem to be in the same price range?

If you go back a couple pages there was some jersey chat.

Galibier are fine. But no better or worse than anyone else.
It's usually about finding one you like the look of and obviously at the right price.

Personally I struggle to pay more than 30 or 35 for one. So I've a couple for sigr, one from sweet-pretection and a couple generic off wiggle.
Basically I look for sales and ones I like

Very true 180 Sterling for a jersey and 220 for bibs is saucy.
I saw today that Chain Reaction have an Easter sale, Pa.
The dhb Blok jersey is down to 37 quid.
Have found the dhb stuff to be excellent without exception.

The Enduras are excellent. Really good pad. Their service department are top.

Also tried the DHB. Good fit. Pad isn’t as good as the Endura. As Stated, the Castelli are very good but tend to be pricier. Fit is very racy too. Size one up

It's the only Galibier pair I have. They're a great pair of bibs.

I am looking for new bibs. For 3-4 hr rides. I see a similar question in clothing 101 so i will follow that too. Budget in around €100-150. Most of my current bibs are aldi/lidl and spin 11.

Also looking decent stiffish spd shoes. I use Shimano mt34 but would like more of a road style shoe but with spd cleats. I am liking Sidi but they are quite expensive. Budget around €150 ish also, maybe a bit more. I am size 43 in a runner, Size 44 in Shimano.

+1 on the Endura FS260, they are my go to bibs. Better fit for me than the Castelli Endurance bibs (L). The pad is good for long hours in the saddle.

I find the size charts accurate for me, it suggests L and indeed that is the right size. For Castelli I'm XL, for my club gear I'm XXL. Based on what you listed above it looks like an S for you. Here's a link to the size chart.

I just checked my lbs and they have them at the same price as everyone else so I'll go in there. Now to find decent spd shoes. I need spf 50+ arm covers so I'll pick them up while I'm in. I got a scar on my arm that was treated this year and I was advised sunscreen every hour or base layer.

So I went into my lbs and tried on small endura bibs. I couldn't get them past my knees. Medium were perfect. My legs are not in proportion to my arms. Fat thighs, skinny arms. Lbs was same price as crc and wiggle. They only just came in stock that day so I was lucky.

Contact the company and ask them. Possibly buy 2 sizes & return 1 if unsure.
