Anyone have a Shockrite solar fencer or know if they any good ?
Have a Lacme and it's great but find it very heavy with the battery to move around so looking for a 2nd fence for smaller areas that's easier to move and Shockrite seems a good enough price.
Anyone
just got shockrite solar fencer few weeks ago-happy enough-light so easy to carry.its been on past 10 days with No problems yet
Same here. Have it about a month. Buy online direct from the company. Reasonably priced for a solar fencer....
Thanks lads that's great to hear - what model did ye buy ?
I bought the more powerful of the 2 on their website. I can't rem the model. To you earlier point, it's very portable, weight maybe 5kg and approx 40 cm x 40 x15cm, battery is incorporated so easy to move.
They seem way better value than the likes of Gallagher and Pel anyway so hopefully they last.
I'll definitely try them anyway
Came across this online. Impressive performance from a small kit from the spec on it if I am reading it right.
I smell BS............ 1.9J (stored energy), wonder what the output Joules are?
C cell Batteries??? Are what in the name of *** are they going to add?
Night time power saving mode?? wonder what the output drops to then especially with 20KM of fence?
run 20KM of fence all year round? I have some doubts.
You would have to wonder alright. Be a great yoke if it does what it's saying. I must check a few British forums later seen it is made in the UK if there is any reviews on them.
Wolseley is a brand that is around years. My uncle has a mains version hiding in the shed somewhere and was probably the first fencer that came around the place 40 or 50 years ago.
Is 0.5j powerful for the shock rite solar fence? What reading would ye get with the tester?
No 0.5j would not be considered powerful, generally it would be for short runs or strip grazing.
Joules doesn't define the reading you'd get with the tester, all fence units should put out over 8,000 - 11,000+ volts but more joules mean you can push that same voltage further down the line.
How you getting on with these fences lads? I am looking for a fencer for short runs and strip grazing think this would save me having to be buy replacement batteries.
I bought the more powerful Shockrite one after reading the comments here. In action about a week now and very happy with it. Using for a good long strip of wire for heifers on rough grazing. Giving a powerful read on the fence tester too. I’d recommend it anyway!
That's the 0.5 joule one is it? I have being looking and all the pel, Gallagher and cheetah outs are much more expensive with a less output so I think I will order this one as well cheers for the feedback. Also shock rite seem to be very good value for poly wire and insulators.
Yeah 0.5 is what I got too. Hope it goes well for you
Have it out for past 3 weeks and no issues-I’d recommend it
The Cheetah B20 solar fencer is only 230 in Gibsons is the next cheapest option out there.
Think Cheetah very good back up service also.
Would any solar fence be fit to keep a bull in ?
have an out farm with no power on it - would any solar fence have power like mains fence ?
I’ve a couple of these, the joys of a fragmented farm.
Basically a mains fencer run off solar. Various different sizes available depending on the acreage you’re covering. I find them very good, always 5 lights on the tester, even during the summer when grass and vegetation has grown up around the wire.
Likewise, fragmented farm here, I'd no issues keeping in bull fenced in to 20 Acres divided into paddocks with one of these.
I also bought the fence unit by itself and a more powerful one, I run these 2 on larger 100W panels along with 12V water pumps to keep the drinkers going as well as keeping stock including bulls in.
The most important part is that you have enough Joules for the Fence length/Area you want to cover, the 0.5J models in some of the previous posts are great for short runs, strip grazing (even with bulls) and are light / portable, more powerful units will be heavy with large car/tractor type batteries.
The biggest issues lads have is trying to use the wrong units in the wrong place and not using adequate earth bars for long runs. There is no point comparing a 0.5J solar fence to a 10J mains fence. Fence units are usually rated in Stored Joules and/or Output Joules, so when comparing units compare like for like (Output joules are a better indicator of power, if only rated in stored Joules then Output Joules is likely 2/3 of that). Most decent units will produce 9,000 to 11,000 Volts but real world earthing from vegetation and poor connections will see a lower voltage on the line. 3,000V will keep most stock in but it would be nice to see at least double that where bulls are concerned. A solar unit will be "almost" as good as the equivalent mains unit but they will perform better in bright sunny weather compared to dull days or night time, so don't skimp on the size, just go a little larger.
