What do you see yourself doing in 5 years time?

Will you hope to still be in education, settle down to a full-time job or even travel the world? What can see happening in your life between now and 2015, any particular aims or ambitions you have in mind? Is there anything in particular you want to see or do?

Five years later. 26. Qualified nurse the past five years. Currently in a job that I adore. Living in Australia the past two. Still love cheesy music and haven't really changed that much in my ways.
Where do I see myself in another five years? Don't really have much of a plan but hopefully if I check back in, I'll be happy

I'm also very nostalgic and look back on that 'boards period' of my life soooo fondly. What a great time eh.. those sleepless nights when I was 15 staying up posting. tear tear.

The book happened! It launched last December on a Zoom conference.

My other plans will almost certainly have to change. Looks like I'll be a father by this time tomorrow.

Another 5 years have rolled around, and they have been chock full of big life events. I mean Covid being the first one, it was laughably close after the previous post. A truly shite time!

Apart from that, I got married, I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant, expecting our first child. I moved out of Dublin, I live in the West of Ireland but I've managed to keep the same job with remote work (A rare Covid bright side). We're in the process of building a house, and submitting to planning this week!! I've had relative success in my career, far more than I ever thought I could have. My husband, family and parents and friends are all doing well, thanking my lucky stars for that.

The illustration career, I've given up on this goal! :D Trying to juggle this with my job is borderline impossible so I now tend to just do bits for close friends and family.

So there has been a lot of happiness and success but there has been a bit of hardship too. In 2021 I was in a bad accident, I was hit by a car going full tilt while I was walking through a pedestrian crossing which left me in pretty bad shape. My foot was permanently damaged, and almost amputated. That was a hard pill to swallow because I was a big hiker and I had to get my head around the fact that my body isn't capable of doing that anymore. That whole experience changed me in a lot of ways, mentally it also took a toll. I feel like I'm still the same person but I've definitely touched the void and went to places in my mind that I previously had never gone to before, and never want to return. I look back at my old posts and I was so relentlessly positive, that's something that I think was a little bit damaged/changed post that time in my life. My capacity for empathy has increased by 10 fold though. It might sound very selfish that it took a big accident like that to wake me up to other people's problems but that's just the truth. I find that I can really listen and empathise with what people are going through which I can't say I would have done before and would have probably advised people to just get over and on with things.

Next 5 years:Try to be a good mother, be patient and keep this child alive.

Manage to keep my job, I've reached a level that I don't want to move up anymore for at least another 5 years. So honestly just keeping this job would be a success. Or if I do have to move, find a job that I like at a similar level.

Get this house built and don't saddle myself with too much debt. This goal is going to be a complete fail, I can already feel the debt accumulating. Oh well!

It's been 5 years since I did my Masters so I think I will need to do another course to keep up. Again, if I can just be happy and healthy that is truly the main thing, avoid getting hit by anymore cars!

I used to cycle all the time. I spent years zipping around Dublin, and when I initally moved to the West I spent most weekends finding new routes to explore. I'm understandably a bit nervous of cycling now. However, I'm going to try and get back on the bike, even just on greenways. I loved it, so we shall see if my brain complies to this goal.

Maybe Boards.ie will be closed by the time I come back here in 5 years, if it is, I'll just post the next one on Reddit! I'll be 39 years old which sounds much better then 40 😅
