Ordering a monitor from Amazon.co.uk?

Basically as the title would lead you to believe, I intend to buy a new monitor. Looking at a 49" ultrawide. There are many options and I haven't settled on which specific one I want just yet, but I digress.

The point of this post is that monitors are rather large and rather fragile. Is it relatively safe to get it through Amazon or should I be looking at some more "brick and mortar" stores and waiting?

More than safe and usually those big expensive monitors come in massive protective packaging. My regular LG GL850 came in a box about twice the size of another cheaper 27" monitor that I got. Totally excessive but it does the trick. Regardless you are covered with easy returns if it's Amazon.

Ah deadly! Thanks for the reply. The PC things I've ordered from Amazon have always come well packaged. I was just a little worried given the size.

I'd expect it would be cheaper to get from Amazon.de. You are likely to pay a significant extra amount in tax and duty from amazon.co.uk. My Acer 34 widescreen came packaged perfectly.

Amazon.co.uk give you the full charge at checkout and electronic items like monitors arent subject to import tariffs only local tax which is charged instead of uk vat at checkout. They're also good for monitors got some before no problem. That bring said check the other EU mirror sites as they can potentially be cheaper.

Got a 34" delivered from Germany in nothing but the retail packaging. Got here no bother. Amazon should be fine to deal with if the worst happens.

I got my Samsung G7 32" from Amazon and it was in the retail box. No damage at all.

I don't think you'd ever find a 49" Ultra Wide in a "brick and mortar" store, unless you're lucky enough to have some of the now incredibly rare specialist shops nearby (there was a "gaming PC" store in Cork when I lived there, but that's the one and only I know about in Ireland!). Certainly the likes of Curry's or PowerCity won't have anything like that "on the floor".

In terms of delivery there'll be no problem - my 32" BenQ 3203R came in a box that...well, a bit bigger and it'd have fitted a Smart car inside

And it was the standard, retail box - manufacturers size them appropriately AND pad them well, there products will ALL need to be shipped at one point or the other.

All I can say is - check a LOT of online reviews, preferably from known/reliable tech channels, 'cause screens are a very easy thing to get wrong.

Bit of a party pooper but reddit has a few stories of issues with the G9 - not sure how wide spread they are.

Think there was an issue with early models that has been fixed with a firmware update since.

The G9 is still the best UW you can get.
