What is your club doing? What would you like to see happen?

That was Coveney that said that:

Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said there is a very narrow scope for lifting restrictions and the Government approach will be cautious.

Speaking on RTÉ's This Week, Mr Coveney said the Government wants to avoid a fourth wave of the virus and not see a situation where restrictions are eased but then have to be reintroduced.

He said that National Public Health Emergency Team will make a recommendation to the Government tomorrow, which will be considered by the Cabinet sub-committee on Covid-19, which will then make recommendations to the full Cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning.

"We don't have that NPHET recommendation yet, but I don't think it is any secret that NPHET and indeed the Government recognise that the people need some room to breathe here," he said.

"I would expect, but I can't be sure, that we would be looking at the 5km restriction, that we'd be looking at outdoor activity, that we will certainly want to facilitate completing the full return to school for children after 5 April," he said.

Mr Coveney said the Government would like to allow further construction activity if it can be done safely and all that all decisions will be led by public health guidance.

I live 25km approx from my club and as soon as it opens i'm playing regardless of nonsensical travel restrictions.

The closer to Tuesday the more pessimistic I'm becoming.

The suggestion in todays papers that the 5km will only go to 10km and that golf and tennis MAY be allowed and the possibility construction wont re open.

Our leaders appear wedded to lock downs.

Here is a link to an article in the Independent. First two paragraphs don't sound hopeful but further down, there is this below. I'm sure we will know tomorrow when the leaks start.

Children will likely be allowed to return to outdoor sports training given they are already taking part at school. Other outdoor sports like golf and tennis may be allowed from next month and a return of click-and-collect services will also be examined by ministers.

Similarly I changed jobs back in September which post lockdown will mean no commute (if the office ever fully re-opens that is) so I was able to re-join a club having played only casually for the last 10+ years or so. Safe to say its been an expensive few months, membership, driver, fairways, hybrids, putter, trolley, new bag(s), shoes, clothes and now wedges on the way for my birthday at the end of the month

I got a some good deals on 2nd hand stuff here and there so it could have been a lot worse. The price of new gear seems to have shot up since I last bought new clubs which were my irons back in 2015ish I think.

Doesn’t look good for golf after reading the Sunday Business Post & Sunday Indo. Absolutely no certainty about golf and looks likely it may not be allowed. It’s all a bit ridiculous, these leaks certainly do not help matters. Wonder when the next leak will come out.

I would be very hopeful of golf being opened in around April 5th. My reasoning is this:

We are at a crossroads. Level 5 seemingly has arrived at a point where it is what it is. And the reason for that is level 5 itself - after all there are still a lot of people legitimately out and about - and also the lockdown wears off. Peoples resolve and compliance will not get better from here. We've simply overused scaremongering and lockdown. You can say what you will about corona denial and whatnot but the numbers remain what they are and people are not that stupid.

You may disagree with some of that assessment but the numbers are there to see for everyone. Level 5 will not get us to 50 cases a day and people are struggling for some resemblance of normality. When they are not outright fkd because they havent seen a pay check in a year.

So we are at this crossroads and the question is where do we go from here? Tightening lockdown would lead to outright disobedience IMO - were' not far from that already - and so would kicking the can. There has to be some easing. And if only to a degree where the rules actually match what people are already doing anyway.

And in that context it has to be the 5km rule and outdoor activities. If we dont open golf I dont know what we can ease.

But then I thought the same when it came to March 5th. At this stage I wouldnt put anything past the government/nphet anymore.

The Business post this morning saying outdoor sports for children only after Easter.

Will be very frustrating if the golf courses aren't open to everyone. Seems such a low risk activity

I was thinking the exact same and here is a few things I learnt during this horrible pandemic:

People believe headlines and have no interest in actual details or truth because that would be boring
Internet needs rules ASAP
People shouldn’t be allowed to hide there identity because we need to identify stupid people and remove there democratic rights like voting
People will believe muppets talking crap about anything
I believe Elvis is alive
We need to bring back section 31 before the wrong people vote for the wrong people and the good people pay for it
Golf is safe during a pandemic

And finally, it’s very easy to fool people because they believe what they read and journalism in Ireland is poor and sloppy with very little fact checking

I dont want to carry the covid discussion into the golf forum, but our strategy with regards to testing and gathering information has ben abysmally bad all throughout this.

Test criteria and strategy changing every few weeks. No representative testing ever. A convoluted mess of micromagament restrictions switched on and off without a plan or system.

Still no solid idea how it transmits where it transmits to whom it transmits and why it transmits. No idea why people have pre-existing immunity or how may of those are there. No idea of the actual incidence. Just some guesswork approximation that can be send up and down at will depending on test numbers.

If you had actually tried to prevent the gathering of any hard and meaningful data you couldnt have done a better job. And we all know what that means. Garbage in, garbage out.

On top of that the complete disregard for civil rights. In the sense that in their heads and sadly also in actual reality they are now in a world where they can spout any ****e and come out with any sort of of nonsense micromanagement restriction snd no one even asks any more for the scientific basis for this that or the other measure. Or how effective they are or how proportionate. Also nothing ever seems to get re-evaluated.

So your claim of 'people smarter than us' is sadly misplaced. Some of the individuals may be smart and some may even be competent but the organisations they are stuck in and the political realities seemingly only a allow for a complete sh1tshow.
