FPL Wildcard Thread 2020/2021

I’m going to hit it this week.

Looking for input on the best 4.5m GK option and the best 5.0m defender option.

I think it’s still McCarthy or Ryan. The idea of a Leeds GK interests me too but he didn’t look very good at the weekend.

Reece James is clear and away the best option at 5.0m but annoyingly not nailed on. Not sure what he’ll need to do to be nailed.

My wildcard team had a bit of a mare this week with 4/5 defenders rested/dropped which was just bad luck. I'm happy enough with the team, I'll bank this week and see if Everton have a double gameweek in 24 announced before the weekend. If not I'll get Ings in for DCL and move Chilwell on too.

Aguero the big punt but if they want him fit they have to play him.

Three city and yes they might rotate but not as heavily as people think IMO. Plus KDB and Stones are probably all or nothing, so between the fourth defender and Tella i should have a full 11 each week. Tempted by a Chelsea defence triple up but hopfully Havertz will hold onto the spot up front.

If Madison comes back it could affect Nacho but I suspect hes out for most of the season

You look to have a fairly flexible formation but I wouldn’t like to be relying on Tella.

Do you have any money itb for future transfers ?

Iheanacho can easily be replaced, for not much extra money, if Barnes or Maddison do impact his time.

If Saka was due back I might look at getting him.

I wouldn’t worry about spending dollars. I did a team up and had a few million left over. It’s about getting the right players.

There is so much to take in to consideration.

For example, I would like Saka too but I’ll probably go without him as I expect Arteta to focus on Europe - if managers do really do that.

Likewise Spurs are now more appealing out of Europe and in contention for top 4.

City are difficult. Mahrez and Foden could be gold as they may not be in Guardiola’s first 11 and therefore get minutes in the league. With the league all but won he will surely prioritise the quadruple ?

West Ham players should be considered.

Chelsea are a concern, with Tuchel’s penchant for rotation, and they are still in 2 cups.

I think it’s all about working out the bigger picture (what the mangers will now do) and backing yourself.

Leicester amd Wolves have good fixtures until 36.

Spurs have good fixtures from 34.

I expect West Ham to keep up their good form and I expect Southampton to finish the season very strong and play for points that other teams won’t bother putting the effort in for (as they will ease off once safe).

Leeds won’t stop doing what they do and they may have more success against bigger clubs that are willing to try and score themselves. I think Leeds attackers are good to own.

Aguero is a mad one. I thought something was up all season. It was obvious he was going to leave and I think he was protecting himself and Pep was happy to oblige.

That said I think he knows how important Aguero could be (a real match winner) in the cup competitions and may give him minutes in the league to get him sharp.

Then again he may leave him on the bench, as he has done all season, and go with the players that will be there next season as an incentive.

I know if I was Foden I would be playing my football somewhere else next season.

The only chance i see of that happening his if he is somehow not picked for the Euro's. He has it comfortable at city - plays with some really great players, and when he plays he gets the plaudits all night long - but then spends next 4 games on the bench - surely he should be looking at Sancho if he thinks he's that good and get the move away.

Foden has played a lot more games this season than last, but he still feels like a bit part player, and i don't think that is really going to change any time soon unless he forces the issue and looks for a move away - even a loan deal abroad. That or maybe an English manager getting the city job - If Lamps was manager he would be playing him in every game:pac::D

The WC team seems a bit punty imo. There are a lot of players who might not play in any given week for rotational reasons be it cup games or big squads. How many in form players are there in that 15? 4 maybe 5?

Tierney had probably one great game FF wise, and since then has done very little - defensively Arsenal were a mess against West Ham. Is he worth 5.3m?

Alonso might offer more attacking wise than Rudiger - granted he's cheaper but does he have an attacking threat? Rudiger was dropped/rested/rotated against Everton recently. Probably not defender at Chelsea that is guaranteed to play.

Coady - 4.8m? Granted they have games that they should win coming up - they are playing teams fighting for their lives so who knows what will happen there.

Tella - not sure what he offers other than a DGW - but then who would you be benching in order to play him?

KdB - are you happy to have an 11.9m headache each week - will he/won't he start and in turn return points? He hasn't really return anything to justify having him - other than a punt really - Even martial scored 2 against Southampton, so excluding that game i think he has 1 goal in open play all season.

Jota - got to be some rotational risk with him. Good pick if he plays.

Havertz has had like 1 good game for Chelsea and could easily be rotated.

Aguero - feels a bit like Lallana last season at pool - he's named on the bench but isn't really getting minutes. With seeming no contract signed anywhere last thing he wants is to get injured, so will he bust his balls to get a goal?

Players you don't have:

Konsa - has looked dangerous last few games and will have a DGW at some point

Dallas - out of position and the way Leeds play, they can score against anyone,

Cresswell - 10 assists this season so far - in a team flying - folk were having no problem paying 7m+ for TAA/Robbo doing similar - so for 5.9m on WC i think have to find room.

Lingard is one of the most in form players at the moment and he knows himself to make the Euro's he has to keep the form up.

Raphinha/Bamford - for the same reasons as Dallas, and more so when Leeds score one of them is usually involved. They may have hard games coming up in terms of winning, but in terms of them scoring anything is possible the way they play.

Lacazette has two great games coming up - short term punt - though worry that he could be rested for the European games.

Son - when fit i think he should be in any team - and with a DGW at some point i think he will be a must.

JWP - bit of a punt but two great games coming up - they should be safe so no real pressure of them and they can enjoy their football - will also have a DGW soon, and we've seen he likes those games. With Ings out - he's on penalties which is another plus.

Huge punt - TAA - lost his place with England - he'll need to pick up his performances and show what he can do to make sure he gets back in the squad. Given his price, and how dire Liverpool have been it's a punt, but the have some nice fixtures coming up and he has more to prove than probably any english player over the next 2 months.

Saka might interest but with money no object I can't see it happening

They're an avoid for me

They all look good to me.

Going that heavy with Chelsea in defence will be hard (a lot of transfers) to get off if you want/need to. They are still involved in 3 competitions.

I also reckon Liverpool’s fixtures are too good to ignore but not so sure about their defenders.

I agree it’s hard to get away from those 2-3 Leeds but differentials may be needed at this stage of the season and they’re highly owned.

I’ll be using WC in 31 myself and I’m not looking forward to the choices I’ll have to make. It’s going to be very hard to get all the 50-50 calls right.

I’ve worked very hard to get from 4.2 million to 770k but now I’m just thinking I’ll enjoy it and go for a few left field choices. It’ll be my worst finish or I’ll get ‘lucky’ and finish top 200k.

It’s really all about identifying players now and having the courage to back yourself.

Is Chelsea’s defence that dependant on Kante? He’s only played half the games since Tuchal came in

Having said that I’m tempted to keep Stones over Azpi, be happy with the double defence. I have stones for 5m, Dias is a massive step up to 6.1m, don’t really see the additional value. When stones doesn’t play I have a strong back up in defence. Could easily be playing four at the back a lot of weeks

I haven’t looked in to the stats with or without Kante.

I just think he’s an amazing player and I’d much rather he was playing if I had Chelsea defence.

I do fancy Chelsea myself but I’ll wait now on a Kante update.

You’re 100% right on the Chelsea D and getting off and I’ll definitely be looking to get off at GW35, fixtures turn and CL. So maybe two is enough.

Liverpool have the best fixtures but they are just so bad. It’s so hard to make a case for TAA because it means losing someone further up the pitch like say Nacho. Plus there are a load of good defence options. I’ve left out Stones, Dias, Coady & Dallas from that draft

Well I had dead ended to 29 as this was always my plan. I have a couple of Brighton, a couple of Arsenal, two playing GKs etc. Having said that I don’t really get the case for holding off for a week?

Which doubles are you waiting on? Villa v Everton is uninspiring, and I don’t trust Spurs v Southampton. I do have a FH left so I suppose if there’s this mythical monster DGW I can use it there.
IMO by not WCing this week you’re missing out on Chelsea points with very little upside.

The FA Cup teams are what interest me. City, Chelsea and Everton will all have a double gameweek together.

It’s a tough one that. I loathe to buy LFC players again even though their fixtures are great.

I also loathe to buy players that aren’t nailed on for 90 minutes a match for the remainder yet I see the attraction of the above 2 but I hope I buy neither.

Why would you rule out Havertz? He’s played No. 9 in the last two, great fixtures, would get the C versus West Brom. Rotation is the obvious downside, probably the most likely to get rotated of the three

Getting him could buy some time on Salah
