I’m Not sure but It may depend on the department. My partner works in the civil service and his holidays start on February 1st.

I have been asked for a reference for the last 12months. Ive been in 2 jobs the last 12 month's can you send one of those references or does it have to be your current employer?

Public Jobs have sent out e-mails to people on listing for Tipperary asking them if they are interested in going for interview for Tipperary Town. I think it is part of Justice.

I am looking for some help/advice please
The job in question is clerical officer in customs.
I have completed all processes in question the interview ,vetting,references.
The job is most likely based in Dublin Port but not confirmed yet .

My questions is that I would be travelling 1hr each way to work daily .
1 Financially is it worth it with diesel and toll costs ?
2 what times are the shifts ( day / night)

I would be giving up a well established career to start this post any feedback would be great thanks.

Only you can tell if it's worth it.
But starting out as a CO, you'll probably take home €375 a week or thereabouts.

Does anyone know after being offered a one year contract for a clerical officer job in a university after the 1 year will you be on another one year contract or how does it work?

You will get 25% shift allowance & its 24hrs cover, so it will be 3 shifts with 8 hrs

Contact made with Public Jobs and was advised that the jobs are for Office in Tipperary Town. If you accept you are removed from panel for all of Tipperary, but if you refuse the offer you still are on panel. Where i am living in north tipp, it just would not be worth while to accept it. Google Maps advise me to drive into Limerick and then go out the waterford road.

It depends. If you've been hired for a particular project your job might just end after the year.

How exactly do the shifts work? Are they five 8 hour shifts or is it 12 hours shifts?

Ok it’s not for a project. Just hoping to get a longer fixed term next rather than another 1 year contract for mortgage purposes

They way it works in the civil service is you're sort of considered temporary in your first year, it's beyond the normal probation status - I wonder if it's a similar sort of setup.

I suppose the only thing you can really do is ask the local HR what the chances of a permanent job is. A lot of jobs in Universities would be fixed term contracts.

Thanks so much for the info it would suit me as id be only 25 mins drive from there so help of god il pass interview & get it!! You would have a long drive once u hit limerick its 35 mins tops out that road & id be like you if i got nenagh id have hours drive each way!! Thanks for all the info and best of luck to you

Hi im in lower 60’s for tipperary so its moving along!! Had limerick as 1st choice but only 25 called so far!! Hope your not too far off & get a call

Could someone clear something up that I am really confused over. So I have my interview on Tuesday for Dublin. What happens after that? If I am successful am I then put on ANOTHER OOM to actually get placed? And if it comes to May 2021 (which if I remember right is the end of the panel) am I just effectively discarded? While I always strive to do my best in interviews I'm guessing if I don't place high and "smash" the interview it will all be for naught

I don't think its about placing "high" or not.
You either pass or not.
Then it's a waiting game.
Shouldn't be too long for Dublin.
Even though the panel ends in May, they'll be pulling from it up untill early September. ( in my experience anyway).

Yes, you get a new batch and OOM. For example, batch 30 OOM 5. If PAS reach batch 30 then you'll be called after the first 4 people. No idea how many are in a batch, really seems to vary.

I've heard conflicting things on that, but that was always my impression. I would be surprised if the panel isn't extended though. The fact that they're even still interviewing in Dublin implies they've places still to fill.

I’ve an interview this week for CO with Wicklow CC. Has anyone done interview recently and can share any tips?

Also, there’s been no mention of batches or OOM so far. Is this something that comes after interview or maybe it’s just for civil service?

Civil service takes on hundreds of COs during a campaign, CC might be filling a handful of jobs so I wouldn't expect batched, they may still form a panel though.

Know your competencies for the interview.

You need not only pass but score as high as you can. Prepare for the interview, use STAR technique. Check out the competencies they are looking for and prepare an example for each. As better you do in the interview, as higher your chances will be to get the job. You will get a new OOM (based on the interview). Let's say if your new OOM is 3, then you have a very high chance as you will the third that they'll be calling. But if your OOM will be like 90 or so, 89 people will get on offer before you. So really do your homework, have plenty of examples for those "Tell me about the time when you ..." questions.

Tips:
1. Read the job requirements. Think of what you can offer, what skills you have or a similar job you did for those requirements
2. Read the competencies. Its 6 of them l think, but if they mentioned in the email which oned they will be looking for, focus on those
3. For each competency, think of a question they can ask and prepare the answer using the STAR technique. Eg: Competency is TEAMWORK. Question: Tell me about the time when you worked in the team and had a conflict with a manager/co-worker and how did you solve it. The answer shape by STAR.
4. If you are not familiar with STAR, look it on youtube, plenty of advice.
5. Think about what you can offer to them, something like your "Unique Selling Point". Something extra, eg: You know a fancy software or you did a course on smth that gives you extra brownie points.
6. Write the answers down and talk to yourself out loud. It is harder to say it out loud than just repeat it in your head.
7. Relax and be chill. The interviewers are very nice and make you feel comfortable.
8. Civil Service interview is the same as any job interview. Preparation is the key.
